Even though IDEs are often a central tool when learning to program in CS1, many teachers still lean on paper-based exams. In this study, we examine the “test mode effect” in CS1 exams using the Rainfall problem. The test mode was two-phased. Half of the participants started working on the problem with pen and paper, while the other half had access to an IDE. After submitting their solution, all students could rework their solution on an IDE. The experiment was repeated twice during subsequent course instances. The results were mixed. This paper re-examines the Finnish evidence presented by Lehtonen and Tykkylainen on the use of location quotients (LQs) in estimating regional input coefficients and multipliers. They argue that the choice of an LQ-based method is a gamble and that there is no single method that can be recommended for general use. It is contended here that this evidence is erroneous and that the FLQ (Flegg's location quotient) yields results far superior to those from competing formulae, so it should provide a satisfactory way of generating an initial set of input coefficients.…

Beliefs about teaching held by student teachers and school-based teacher educators

Teachers' beliefs about teaching goals and practices are influenced by several factors, including teaching and mentoring experiences. To identify which teaching goals and practices are preferred for the social and cognitive development of pupils, 112 student teachers and 73 school-based teacher educators were questioned. In contrast to teacher educators, student teachers consider the mechanical acquisition of knowledge and practices that support intrapersonal processes directed toward cognitive development to be a more effective goal, while teachers with mentoring experience prefer teaching practices that support pupils' social development. Based on an ethnographic approach, this paper explores how members of a new age spiritual movement known as ?Llave Mariana? (LLM) build and experience their bodies. At the same time, it develops a thick description of their ritual practices and later it analyzes, delving fundamentally into the phenomenological perspective, how these members shape and transform their forms of self-perception, experience, and representation of others and the environment. The present text focuses on a relationship between higher education, institutional and symbolic violence and exclusion, practicing as a challenge based on reflections on the existence of evasion in Brazilian university. The Synthesis of Quinoline‐based Tin Complexes with Pendant Schiff Bases

Whilst pursuing the synthetic utility of quinoline‐based tin complexes, Me2Sn(Quin‐NO2)2 (1) and Ph2Sn(Quin‐NO2)2 (2) (Quin‐NO2 = 5‐nitroquinolino‐8‐oate) were synthesized bearing coordinatively inert nitro groups. Conventional reduction methodologies successfully converted 1 to Me2Sn(Quin‐NH2)2 (3) and 2 to Ph2Sn(Quin‐NH2)2 (4) (Quin‐NH2 = 5‐aminoquinolino‐8‐oate). An analysis of the names derived from appellatives allows for a reconstruction of the categorization methods of the world, anthropological conceptualization and a popular image of reality. Name creators choose those names from the existing collection of the names derived from the appellatives which are for certain reasons important and valuable for them. Tourist satisfaction has been studied so far using many different theoretical approaches and measurement models. In doing that, scholars have considered satisfaction and dissatisfaction either as two extremes on a single continuum or two distinct conceptual dimensions, i.e. tourist satisfaction (TS) and tourist dissatisfaction (TD) (Alegre and Garau, 2010).
