On the modelling of an Acid/Base Flow battery: an innovative electrical energy storage device based on pH and salinity gradients

2019

The Acid/Base Flow Battery (AB-FB) is an innovative and sustainable way to store electric energy. It can theoretically guarantee an energy density of about 11 kWh/m3, which is higher than that provided by pumped hydropower, osmotic energy storage and compressed air. The AB-FB stores energy as pH and salinity gradients by employing a stack provided with (i) channels, hosting the solutions at difference pH and concentrations, separated by (ii) monopolar and bipolar ion exchange membranes. Two different membrane processes are involved: the Bipolar Membrane Electrodialysis (ED-BM) as charging step and its opposite, Bipolar Membrane Reverse Electrodialysis (RED-BM) as discharging step. The prese…

Bismuta selenīda plāno kārtiņu elektroķīmisko īpašību raksturošana nātrija nitrāta ūdens elektrolītā

2021

Shared Binding Sites for the Bacillus thuringiensis Proteins Cry3Bb, Cry3Ca, and Cry7Aa in the African Sweet Potato Pest Cylas puncticollis (Brentida…

2014

ABSTRACT Bacillus thuringiensis Cry3Bb, Cry3Ca, and Cry7Aa have been reported to be toxic against larvae of the genus Cylas , which are important pests of sweet potato worldwide and particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. However, relatively little is known about the processing and binding interactions of these coleopteran-specific Cry proteins. The aim of the present study was to determine whether Cry3Bb, Cry3Ca, and Cry7Aa proteins have shared binding sites in Cylas puncticollis to orient the pest resistance strategy by genetic transformation. Interestingly, processing of the 129-kDa Cry7Aa protoxin using commercial trypsin or chymotrypsin rendered two fragments of about 70 kDa and 65 kDa. N-…

The sedimentary series of upper Bajocian-lower Bathonian age and their organization in the Burgundy threshold and its surroundings. Stratigraphy, sed…

1981

Three fundamental features concerning the organization of the bio-sedimentary series of the upper Bajocian-lower Bathonian of the Burgundy threshold environment are retained:- the formations are organized in a bio-sedimentary platform, composed of three sets: a deep SW platform with clay sedimentation, a superficial NE platform, a transition zone- the geochemical characteristics are consistent with the reconstitution of the NE-NW polarized platform- this device has changed over time: a migration and extension of the surface platform to the SW, development of the transition zone, a slight displacement of the deep platform correlated with a more and more opening towards the SW.

Contrasting Effects of Chronic Anthropogenic Disturbance on Activity and Species Richness of Insectivorous Bats in Neotropical Dry Forest

2022

For prioritizing conservation actions, it is vital to understand how ecologically diverse species respond to environmental change caused by human activity. This is particularly necessary considering that chronic human disturbance is a threat to biodiversity worldwide. Depending on how species tolerate and adapt to such disturbance, ecological integrity and ecosystem services will be more or less affected. Bats are a species-rich and functionally diverse group, with important roles in ecosystems, and are therefore recognized as a good model group for assessing the impact of environmental change. Their populations have decreased in several regions, especially in the tropics, and are threatene…
