Exploring the role of teachers’ attitudes towards inclusive education, their self-efficacy, and collective efficacy in behaviour management in teache…

2023

Using a sample of 384 Finnish teachers, in this study we explored how teachers' attitudes towards inclusive education, self-efficacy, and collective efficacy in behaviour management affect their behaviours in teaching appropriate behaviours to students, and how teachers' attitudes, self-efficacy, and collective efficacy mediate the effect of background variables on teacher behaviour. The results revealed that teachers’ self-efficacy and collective efficacy significantly predicted their behaviour. The number of students with attention or behavioural problems has an indirect negative effect on teacher behaviour, mediated by teacher self-efficacy. peerReviewed

Kun perusopetuksen oppilaat oireilevat psyykkisesti : opettajien kokemuksia

2017

The aim of this study was to examine and interpret teachers’ experiences of pupils with emotional and behavioural disordres in comprehensive schools in Finland. The term ‘pupils with emotional and behavioural disorders’ refers here to children who either cannot or do not want to act according to the general expectations in a school climate. Children live in several social settings that affect their development, of which the most important ones are home and the school. It is known that positive teacher-pupil interaction has an advantageous effect on student adaptation, performance and behavior. However, behavior-related problematics affect the forming of interactive relationships. Educationa…

Temporal perspective on the gender-related differences in online learning behaviour

2022

Although several studies suggested considering gender in online learning, the literature about how male and female students would behave is fragmented. Little attention has been paid to the effect of gender on online learning behavioural patterns. This study aimed at investigating the roles of gender in online learning behaviours by analyzing the gender-related differences of students’ online learning behavioural patterns. We used the case study approach with descriptive statistical analysis, lag sequential analysis, and temporal log data analysis to investigate gender-related differences in students’ online learning behaviours. The results indicated no significant difference in the counts …

Predicting fruit and vegetable consumption in long-haul heavy goods vehicle drivers : application of a multi-theory, dual-phase model and the contrib…

2018

Fruit and vegetable intake is insufficient in industrialized nations and long-haul heavy goods vehicle (HGV) drivers are considered a particularly at-risk group. The aim of the current study was to test the effectiveness of a multi-theory, dual-phase model to predict fruit and vegetable consumption in Australian long-haul HGV drivers. A secondary aim was to examine the effect of past fruit and vegetable consumption on model paths. A prospective design with two waves of data collection spaced one week apart was adopted. Long-haul HGV drivers (N = 212) completed an initial survey containing theory-based measures of motivation (autonomous motivation, intention), social cognition (attitudes, su…

Drivers’ experiences during floods: Investigating the psychological influences underpinning decisions to avoid driving through floodwater

2018

Abstract A major risk factor for many flood-related drownings is driving through floodwater. We aimed to understand Australian drivers’ experiences and beliefs with respect to avoid driving through floodwater using the theory of planned behaviour as a framework. Study 1 (N = 23) used a qualitative design to gain an in-depth understanding of individuals’ experiences with driving through floodwater. Study 2 (N = 157) used a survey-based design to identify the factors related to this behaviour including knowledge, beliefs, and social-cognitive factors. In Study 1, drivers identified a range of advantages (e.g., didn’t damage car), disadvantages (e.g., inconvenient, but not so terrible), barrie…

Dealing with the right of way in advanced traffic simulation. A characterization of drivers' behaviours in a multi-agent approach

2017

International audience; With the emergence of ADAS and autonomous vehicle, the need of simulation software to test advanced systems and models is unavoidable. The objective of this work is to characterize, in a multi-agent approach, the traffic vehicles behaviours, and to model them in a versatile traffic simulator, serving as a testing tool for integration in the traffic module of the SCANeR Studio T M simulation software. The algorithm will bring more natural interactions between vehicles in simulation and allow the emergence of new relevant situations for autonomous vehicles, observable in real, such as collision risk situations or even accidents, which have for now to be scripted in sce…

Socioeconomic differences in the use of alcohol and drunkenness in adolescents: Trends in the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children study in Finla…

2018

Aims: The aims of this study were to explore time-based trends of socioeconomic differences in alcohol use and drunkenness in Finnish adolescents from 1990 to 2014 and to investigate the significance of two indicators in detecting socioeconomic differences in alcohol use and drunkenness. Methods: Data were retrieved from seven surveys conducted as part of the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) study in Finland from 1990 to 2014. The alcohol use and drunkenness of 15-year-old students, as well as socioeconomic status, including educational aspiration and perceived family wealth, were assessed via a self-report questionnaire. Logistic regression models were used to investigate t…

Trends in perceived school stress among adolescentsin five Nordic countries 2002–2014

2019

Abstract Associations between school-related stress and poor health, risk behaviours and low well-being are well documented. The aim of this paper was to estimate trends of perceived school stress experienced by boys and girls of different ages in the Nordic countries, and to describe trends in school stress between the Nordic countries. Nordic data from the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children study (HBSC) between 2002 and 2014 were used. The participants were aged 11–16 years. School stress was measured by a single item; “How pressured do you feel by schoolwork?” The participants answering “some” or “a lot” were categorised as reporting school stress.   Sweden, Norway and Denmark had …

Predictors of In‐School and Out‐of‐School Sport Injury Prevention : A Test of The Trans‐Contextual Model

2021

The current study aimed to predict secondary school students' motivation toward sport injury prevention in 'in-school' and 'out-of-school' contexts, and their sport injury prevention behaviour at 3-month follow-up using the trans-contextual model (TCM). Hong Kong secondary school students (N = 1,566; mean age = 13.34 years, range = 11 to 19; female = 49.42%) were recruited. Participants were asked to complete a survey comprising previously-validated scales measuring TCM constructs at baseline, and a measure of sport injury prevention behaviour at follow-up three months later. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to examine the hypothesised paths among TCM constructs. A SEM specifying…
