Identification of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the black crusts of Sicilian stone monuments: distribution and sources
2004
Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons are a family of compounds with known carcinogenic potential; their properties of lipophilicity, low water solubility and adsorption to particles and sediments make them a potentially dangerous group of chemicals and a threat to the environment and its bio-resources. The concentrations of total Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) and 19 individual compounds in 8 black crusts sampled from historical building of Palermo (Italy) were analyzed, by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) in selected ion monitoring (SIM) mode. PAH concentrations ranged from 78 to 9798 g/Kg of dry matrix. The resulting distributions and molecular ratios of specific compo…
Comparative Investigation on the Soil Burial Degradation Behaviour of Polymer Films for Agriculture before and after Photo-Oxidation
2020
Polymer films based on biodegradable polymers, polyethylene (PE) and modified PE with oxo-degradable additive were prepared by film blowing. Carbon black (1%) was added to all the films. Commercial biodegradable Ecovio®
Biało-czarny świat Ervina Goja
2011
The author takes up the language Ervin Goj’s poetry, a regional lachian poet who has written his poems between the years 1931-1977 under the pen name Óndra Łyhorsky. She analyses the meaning of two colours, namely white and black, which in the European culture symbolize the opposition light – dark, good – bad: white symbolizes innocence, truth, purity, simplicity, honesty, while black symbolizes evil, falsehood, nothingness, mourning, atonement. It is associated with everyday human experience which is reflected in the language and is connected with the following patternsprototypes: white – day (bílý den), black – night (černá noc), for example: bílá holubice, bílé světlo, bílá vrána, černé …

Lenguaje tabú y traducción audiovisual: estudio descriptivo de la subtitulación al español de la serie Orange is the new black
2017
Nonlinear black-box models for short-term forecasting of air temperature in the town of Palermo
2011
Weather data are crucial to correctly design buildings and their heating and cooling systems and to assess their energy performances. In the intensely urbanized towns the effect of climatic parameters is further emphasized by the Urban Heat Island (UHI) phenomenon, known as the increase in the air temperature of urban areas, compared to the one measured in the extra-urban areas. The analysis of the heat island needs detailed local climate data which can be collected only by a dedicated weather monitoring system. The Department of Energy and Environmental Researches of the University of Palermo (Italy) has built up a weather monitoring system that works 24 hours per day and makes data availa…
