The prognosis of vertebrobasilar occlusion is grave and therapeutic options are limited. The aim of the present study was to develop a new model of embolic hindbrain ischemia in the rat that closely resembles the clinical situation and that can be used to study pathophysiology and treatment options. After thoracotomy in 20 male Wistar rats, 15 animals received an injection of in vitro prepared autologous blood clots into the left vertebral artery. Purpose: To assess the feasibility and effectiveness of the Nellix prosthesis in the treatment of common iliac artery aneurysms. Methods: Between May 2013 and June 2015, 230 patients underwent implantation of the Nellix device at 2 institutions. Fifty of these patients (mean age 76 years; 35 men) were identified as having 60 common iliac artery aneurysms (CIAAs) with a median diameter of 4 cm (range 3.5–7). The majority of patients had aortoiliac aneurysms (5, 70%), 10 (20%) had isolated CIAAs, and 5 (10%) had iliac anastomotic aneurysms after aortoiliac bypass. The present study was undertaken to determine the effect of arterial blood hypoxemia induced by acute systemic hypoxia (pO2=12%) on capillary recruitment and diameter, and red blood cell (RBC) velocity in human nail fold capillaries during rest, arterial post-occlusive reactive hyperemia (PRH), and venous occlusion (VO) using intravital video-capillaroscopy. The effects of the new antiulcer compound zinc acexamate on blood flow and prostanoid levels in the gastric mucosa have been studied. Zinc acexamate (30 and 300 mg/kg) dose-dependently prevents the reduction induced by the perfusion of noradrenaline (3.5 micrograms/kg.min, 30 min) in gastric mucosal blood flow, as measured by 3H-aniline clearance. Zinc acexamate pretreatment also increases the levels of prostaglandin E2 in the gastric mucosa of the rat, both under control conditions and after infusion with noradrenaline.
