‘Maya chemistry’ of organic–inorganic hybrid materials: isomerization, cyclicization and redox tuning of organic dyes attached to porous silicates
2013
[EN] Association of indigo and lapachol dyes to aluminosilicate clays yields polyfunctional organic – inorganic hybrid materials forming Maya Blue-like systems. Upon partial removing of clay's zeolitic water by moderate thermal treatment, abundant isomerization, cyclicization and oxidation reactions occur defining a‘ Maya chemistry whose complexity could explain the versatile use of such materials in the pre-Columbian cultures and permits the preparation of polyfunctional materials potentially usable for therapeutic and catalytic purposes.
Characterization of cryopreserved rat liver parenchymal cells by metabolism of diagnostic substrates and activities of related enzymes
1992
The metabolism of testosterone and benzo(a)pyrene (BaP) which is mediated by diverse enzymes was determined in cryopreserved rat liver parenchymal cells and compared with that found in freshly isolated cells. In addition, the activities of single xenobiotic-metabolizing enzymes were measured by using specific substrates. The cytochrome P450 (P450)-mediated total metabolic conversion of testosterone was reduced to 55% in cryopreserved cells. The metabolite profile, i.e. the formation of single metabolites compared with total metabolic conversion, was however unchanged when compared with freshly isolated cells. A concomitant reduction in the activities of the involved P450 isoenzymes can ther…
Evidence of Magnetoresistance in the Prussian Blue Lattice during a Voltammetric Scan
2008
This manuscript reports evidence of magnetoresistance effects in the Prussian Blue lattice during a voltammetric scan at room temperature. Accordingly, the PB is a well-known semiconductor that becomes surprisingly an almost metallic conductor in the presence of an internal magnetic field induced during the voltammetric scan. This offers appealing perspectives for the control of this interesting phenomenon from electrochemical techniques that could be used for the fabrication of the recent phase-change computational memories, which are electronically configurable. Herein, the PB magnetic properties have been monitored in situ by means of resonating magnetic microsensors based on the shift i…
Effect of diode laser irradiation on the attachment rate of periodontal ligament cells: an in vitro study.
2001
The present study is part of a basic research program investigating the cellular effects of an 810 nm GaAlAs-diode laser on human periodontal tissues. The aim of the investigation was to evaluate the effects of laser treatment of root surface specimens on the attachment of periodontal ligament (PDL) cells in vitro.Root specimens were prepared from periodontally diseased teeth. PDL cells were obtained from human third molar ligaments. Cells were cultured under simple, standardized, and reproducible experimental conditions. One hundred fifty root specimens were scaled and root planed with curets followed by air-powder abrasive treatment; 75 were then lased and 75 served as controls. The irrad…
Magnetic hybrid TiO 2 /Alg/FeNPs triads for the efficient removal of methylene blue from water
2018
A new adsorbent material with combined adsorption, photocatalytic, and magnetic properties has been suc- cessfully synthesized and tested for the efficient dye removal from methylene blue (MB) contaminated water. A facile non-thermal method was applied to synthesize a hybrid nanocomposite consisting of TiO2/calcium algi- nate (TiO/Alg) and magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles (FeNPs). The potential of the adsorbent Alg as a barrier to prevent direct contact between the magnetic core and TiO2 was experimented by varying the synthesis condi- tions. The performance of four differently synthesized TiO2/Alg/FeNPs samples (TiO2/Alg/FeNPs-1, TiO2/Alg/ FeNPs-2, TiO2/Alg/FeNPs-3, and TiO2/Alg/FeNPs-4) wa…
Supravital Uptake of Cationic Dyes by Mast Cell Granules: A Light and Electron Microscope Study
1994
Methylene blue and neutral red were selected for staining mast cell granules by supravital injections. A new technique was applied for embedding in paraffin and Araldite without dislocation or loss of dye. Stabilization and electron microscopic identification of the dyes were achieved by transforming them into electron-dense precipitates using phosphomolybdic acid dissolved in a paraformaldehyde-glutaraldehyde mixture to preserve the ultrastructure of the tissues. It was found that in general the intensity of the light microscopic staining correlated directly with the electron density. Closer study revealed that not all cytoplasmic granules exhibited the same strong affinity for the cationi…
Zilo gaismu bloķējošo lēcu ietekme uz kontrastjutību
2018
2007
We report the development of blue organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) based on molecular materials. Electrical characteristics and quantum efficiency of single layer devices and triple layer devices comprising further a hole blocking layer and an electron injection layer are compared and prospects for applications to passive matrix displays and fluorescence integrated biosensors are also discussed.
Generation of white LED light by frequency downconversion using a perylene-based dye
2012
A high efficiency white light emitting diode (LED) was fabricated by generation of frequency down-conversion from a GaN/InGaN blue LED. In place of conventional inorganic phosphors, a perylene-based dye was used for colour conversion. The resulting hybrid structure is analysed by focusing on the visual performance of the realised LEDs employing the most relevant photometric parameters of a light source. Preparation of the organic polymer is described as well. The thermal stability of the dye was investigated and a simple structure which avoids colour degradation is proposed.
Cytotoxic Action of Serratia marcescens Hemolysin on Human Epithelial Cells
1999
ABSTRACT Incubation of human epithelial cells with nanomolar concentrations of chromatographically purified Serratia marcescens hemolysin (ShlA) caused irreversible vacuolation and subsequent lysis of the cells. Vacuolation differed from vacuole formation by Helicobacter pylori VacA. Sublytic doses of ShlA led to a reversible depletion of intracellular ATP. Restoration to the initial ATP level was presumably due to the repair of the toxin damage and was inhibited by cycloheximide. Pores formed in epithelial cells and fibroblasts without disruption of the plasma membrane, and the pores appeared to be considerably smaller than those observed in artificial lipid membranes and in erythrocytes a…
