Modeling the impact of soft tissue on axial transmission measurements of ultrasonic guided waves in human radius

Recent in vitro and simulation studies have shown that guided waves measured at low ultrasound frequencies (f=200 kHz) can characterize both material properties and geometry of the cortical bone wall. In particular, a method for an accurate cortical thickness estimation from ultrasound velocity data has been presented. The clinical application remains, however, a challenge as the impact of a layer of soft tissue on top of the bone is not yet well established, and this layer is expected to affect the dispersion and relative intensities of guided modes. Purpose: to assess any differences on marginal bone loss between bone-level or tissue-level dental implants through a review of literature until September 2019. Materials and methods: MEDLINE, Embase and other database were searched by two independent authors. The search was limited to articles in English. Results: The search provided 1028 records and, after removing the duplicates through titles and abstracts screening, 45 full-text articles were assessed for eligibility. For qualitative analysis 20 articles were included, 17 articles of them for quantitative analysis. Statins inhibit HMG-CoA reductase by competitively inhibiting the active site of the enzyme, thus preventing cholesterol synthesis and reducing the risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Many pleiotropic effects of statins have been demonstrated that can be either related or unrelated to their cholesterol-lowering ability. Among these effects are their proangiogenic and antiangiogenic properties that could offer new therapeutic applications. In this regard, pro- and anti-angiogenic properties of statins have been shown to be dose dependent. Association of interleukin-10G microsatellite polymorphism with the susceptibility of ankylosing spondylitis

Study suggests an association of IL10.G poly- morphisms with AS which might contribute to the increased or decreased susceptibility to AS. IL10.G8 and G7 microsatellites alleles appear as protective alleles against the development of AS in the German subjects investigated here. Allele IL10.G9 seems to be a risk factor for the development of AS. This protective effect of variant promoter alleles could be related to differences in IL- 10 production, which may be clinically relevant.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This review examines recent data on the pathophysiology and mechanisms of bone pain; it highlights the use of multiple and interdisciplinary treatments rather than sole use of traditional analgesics. RECENT FINDINGS: Bone pain has been shown to have a unique pathophysiology. Recent experimental (animal) models have revealed that, parallel to increased bone destruction, ipsilateral spinal cord segments that receive primary input from the cancerous femur exhibit several notable neurochemical changes. Panoramic radiography is widely used in dentistry for routine examination of jaws. The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between the mandibular angle (MA) values and the vertebral bone mineral density (v-BMD) in 20 osteoporotic men.
