Decays of110Rhand112Rhto the near neutron midshell isotopes110Pdand112Pd
1999
The decays ${}^{110}\mathrm{Rh}$ and ${}^{112}\mathrm{Rh}$ have been investigated using on-line mass separation with the ion-guide technique. Extended decay schemes have been constructed for both the low- and high-spin states in ${}^{112}\mathrm{Rh}$. Mixing ratios for the collective transitions from the ${2}_{2}^{+}$ and ${3}_{1}^{+}$ states in ${}^{112}\mathrm{Pd}$ have been measured by $\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\gamma}$ angular correlation. The presence of two sets of ${0}^{+}$ and ${2}^{+}$ states in the 1.1\char21{}1.4 MeV range suggests the existence of an intruder band, the energy of which is the lowest in ${}^{110}\mathrm{Pd}$ with two neutrons fewer than the mid…
Measurements of the Absolute Branching Fractions of B±→K±Xcc̅
2006
We study the two-body decays of ${B}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}$ mesons to ${K}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}$ and a charmonium state ${X}_{c\overline{c}}$ in a sample of $210.5\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{fb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ of data from the BABAR experiment. We perform measurements of absolute branching fractions $\mathcal{B}({B}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}{X}_{c\overline{c}})$ using a missing mass technique, and report several new or improved results. In particular, the upper limit $\mathcal{B}\mathbf{(}{B}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}X(3872)\mathbf{)}l3.2\ifmmode…
CONDENSATION OF REFRACTORY METALS IN ASYMPTOTIC GIANT BRANCH AND OTHER STELLAR ENVIRONMENTS
2014
The condensation of material from a gas of solar composition has been extensively studied, but less so condensation in the environment of evolved stars, which has been mainly restricted to major compounds and some specific element groups such as the Rare Earth elements. Also of interest, however, are refractory metals like Mo, Ru, Os, W, Ir, and Pt, which may condense to form refractory metal nuggets (RMNs) like the ones that have been found in association with presolar graphite. We have performed calculations describing the condensation of these elements in the outflows of s-process enriched AGB stars as well as from gas enriched in r-process products. While in carbon-rich environments (C …
A Novel Method for the Measurement of Half-Lives and Decay Branching Ratios of Exotic Nuclei
2019
A novel method for simultaneous measurement of masses, Q-values, isomer excitation energies, half-lives and decay branching ratios of exotic nuclei has been demonstrated. The method includes first use of a stopping cell as an ion trap, combining containment of precursors and decay-recoils for variable durations in a cryogenic stopping cell (CSC), and afterwards the identification and counting of them by a multiple-reflection time-of-flight mass spectrometer (MR-TOF-MS). Feasibility has been established by recording the decay and growth of $^{216}$Po and $^{212}$Pb (alpha decay) and of $^{119m2}$Sb (t$_{1/2}$ = 850$\pm$90 ms) and $^{119g}$Sb (isomer transition), obtaining half-lives and bran…
Lifetime of 26S and a limit for its 2p decay energy
2010
Unknown isotope 26S, expected to decay by two-proton (2p) emission, was studied theoretically and was searched experimentally. The structure of this nucleus was examined within the relativistic mean field (RMF) approach. A method for taking into account the many-body structure in the three-body decay calculations was developed. The results of the RMF calculations were used as an input for the three-cluster decay model worked out to study a possible 2p decay branch of this nucleus. The experimental search for 26S was performed in fragmentation reactions of a 50.3 A MeV 32S beam. No events of 26S or 25P (a presumably proton-unstable subsystem of 26S) were observed. Based on the obtained produ…
Quantum bubble dynamics in the presence of gravity
1991
Abstract The dynamics of spherical quantum bubbles in 3+1 dimensions is governed by a Klein-Gordon-type equation which simulates the quantum mechanical motion of a relativistic point particle in 1+1 dimensions. This dimensional reduction is especially clear in the minisuperspace formulation first used in quantum cosmology and adapted here to quantum bubble dynamics. The payoff of this formulation is the discovery of the gravitational analogue of the Klein effect, namely the crossing of positive and negative energy levels of the particle spectrum induced by an external gravitational field. This phenomenon gives rise to a finite probability that a vacuum bubble might tunnel from an initial bo…
Regular black hole metrics and the weak energy condition
2014
In this work we construct a family of spherically symmetric, static, charged regular black hole metrics in the context of Einstein-nonlinear electrodynamics theory. The construction of the charged regular black hole metrics is based on three requirements: (a) the weak energy condition should be satisfied, (b) the energy-momentum tensor should have the symmetry $T^{0}_{0}=T^{1}_{1}$, and (c) these metrics have to asymptotically behave as the Reissner-Nordstr\"{o}m black hole metric. In addition, these charged regular black hole metrics depend on two parameters which for specific values yield regular black hole metrics that already exist in the literature. Furthermore, by relaxing the third r…
Measurement of the 151Sm n,gamma 152Sm cross section at n_TOF
2005
The 151 Sm(n, γ ) 152 Sm cross section, which is important for the interpretation of the 151 Sm branching as an s -process thermometer, was measured from 1 eV up to 1 MeV at the innovative n_TOF facility at CERN. Based on these data, the Maxwellian-averaged cross section at k T = 30 keV is found to be 3100±160 mb. This value can be used to constrain the thermodynamical conditions in Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) stars during He-shell burning.
Update on the b→s anomalies
2019
We present a brief update of our model-independent analyses of the b->s data presented in the articles published in Phys. Rev. D96 (2017) 095034 and Phys. Rev. D98 (2018) 095027 based on new data on R_K by LHCb, on R_{K^*} by Belle, and on B_{s,d}-> mu^+ mu^- by ATLAS.
AMBER observations of the AGB star RS Cap: extended atmosphere and comparison with stellar models
2011
We report on K-band VLTI/AMBER observations at medium spectral resolution ($\sim$1500) of RS Capricorni, an M6/M7III semi-regular AGB star. From the spectrally-dispersed visibilities, we measure the star diameter as a function of observing wavelength from 2.13 to 2.47 microns. We derive a Rosseland angular diameter of $7.95 \pm 0.07$ mas, which corresponds to an effective temperature of $3160 \pm 160$ K. We detect size variations of around 10% in the CO band heads, indicating strong opacity effects of CO in the stellar photosphere. We also detect a linear increase of the size as a function of wavelength, beginning at 2.29 microns. Models of the stellar atmosphere, based on the mass of the s…
