Appearance or reality? Monitoring of employer branding in public network space: the Glassdoor case
2017
To what extent does Employer Branding (EB) express the real‐life company working environment or merely constitutes a well‐orchestrated organizational image? After reconstructing its significance and impact on the managing of the human resource cycle (recruitment, commitment, and retention) this study describes three ways of monitoring EB: internal, professional and public control. They each make use of a variety of tools in order to assess the extent to which the appearance of the employer corresponds to an authentic reality. Then, there is a presentation of the features and critical issues of a case of public EB control: Glassdoor.com. More specifically, this is followed by descriptions of…
Job shop scheduling by a parallel approach
1993
The paper deals with a parallel approach to job shop scheduling by a branch and bound methodology using the lower bound proposed by Ashour and Hiremath. The optimal solution is achieved by an iterative-reductive strategy. At each iteration the algorithm investigates the conflict intervals and it selects a subset of the possible solutions. The makespan value, achieved by the parallel processes, gives the upper limit for the admissible lower bound of the intermediate solutions. Furthermore the best makespan reached by each iteration is reused as a filter to reduce the complexity of the next iteration. The computation is speeded up by a parallel implementation, giving the possibility of distri…

Sicilian Temporary Ponds: An Overview of the Composition and Affinities of their Crustacean Biota
2009
Available data on Sicilian entomostracans allowed an initial characterization of the freshwater crustacean biota of the island and to formulate some hypotheses on its origin. The absence of supra-specific endemic taxa and the current regional distriburion of the investigated species suggest a late Pleistocene colonisation of the island by temperate taxa with a northern affinity, currently confined to the coolest areas of the island, followed by a Holocene arrival of thermophilous species coming from the Maghreb, which is still in progress. The importance of Sicily as a "crossroad" for the faunas of the circum-Mediterranean countries is thus confirmed.Unfortunately, and in spite of the EU dir…
A human multisystem disorder with autoinflammation, leukoencephalopathy and hepatopathy is caused by mutations in C2orf69
2021
AbstractBackgroundDeciphering the function of the many genes previously classified as uncharacterized “open reading frame” (orf) completes our understanding of cell function and its pathophysiology.MethodsWhole-exome sequencing, yeast 2-hybrid and transcriptome analyses together with molecular characterization are used here to uncover the function of the C2orf69 gene.ResultsWe identify loss-of-function mutations in the uncharacterized C2orf69 gene in eight individuals with brain abnormalities involving hypomyelination and microcephaly, liver dysfunction and recurrent autoinflammation. C2orf69 contains an N-terminal signal peptide that is required and sufficient for mitochondrial localizatio…
Rythmes alimentaires: du fast au slow
2020
This article aims to show, with the instruments of semiotic analysis, that Slow Food is a perfect brand. On the one hand, this brand was born as opposed to another very strong brand, the world colossus of fast food McDonald’s. On the other hand, this opposition was not originally an offer of alternative products to McDonald's, but a proposal for new values: an abstract formulation of an alternative form of life. It is only in a second step, once the brand is established (thanks to its communicative supports), that it acquires a series of commercial offers: food, wines, places of catering, publishing, companies, territories whole, even slow-moving cities. Thus, by a semiotic gesture, Slow Fo…

Measuring consumer brand engagement on social media with annoyance as a moderator
2017
Consumer brand engagement (CBE) is indisputably an emerging topic in the marketing literature, yet the amount of research on its antecedents and outcomes is limited. Besides academics, it has also gained traction among practitioners who have started to experiment with new methods to engage consumers with their brands. Most of these marketing efforts have started to take place in social media, as the number of consumers who can be reached with services such as Facebook, Instagram or YouTube is increasing exponentially. While the corporate investments in social media are increasing, many marketing practitioners have trouble reaching the positive outcomes of consumer brand engagement suggested…
Country images and identities in times of populism: Swiss media discourses on the ‘stop mass immigration’ initiative
2020
The construction of certain country images and identities is traditionally studied in relation to public diplomacy, strategic communication and nation branding practices of state and non-state actors. However, we notice the increased instrumentalization of country images and identities in debates on issues beyond strategic promotional practices, such as those articulated around elections, referendums or migration. We analyse how Swiss media constructed Switzerland's image and identity in the debate following the 2014 referendum on ‘stop mass immigration’ initiative, in times of populism, a communication phenomenon and ideology discursively articulated by political and media actors. Thus, w…
