Branch-and-price-and-cut for a service network design and hub location problem

2015

In the context of combined road-rail freight transport, we study the integrated tactical planning of hub locations and the design of a frequency service network. We consider a number of real-world constraints such as multiple transshipments of requests at hubs, transport time limits for requests, request splitting, and outsourcing possibilities. To our knowledge, the combination of problem features we deal with has not been described before. We present a path-based model and solve it with a branch-and-price-and-cut algorithm. Computational experiments show that large realistic instances from a major German rail freight company can be solved close to optimality within one hour on a standard …

Search for a Stable Six-Quark State at BABAR

2019

Recent investigations have suggested that the six-quark combination uuddss could be a deeply bound state (S) that has eluded detection so far, and a potential dark matter candidate. We report the first search for a stable, doubly strange six-quark state in Upsilon -> S anti-Lambda anti-Lambda decays based on a sample of 90 million Upsilon(2S) and 110 million Upsilon(3S) decays collected by the BABAR experiment. No signal is observed, and 90% confidence level limits on the combined Upsilon(2S,3S) -> S anti-Lambda anti-Lambda branching fraction in the range (1.2-1.4)x10^-7 are derived for m_S < 2.05 GeV. These bounds set stringent limits on the existence of such exotic particles.

A parametric description of the 3D structure of the Galactic bar/bulge using the VVV survey

2017

We study the structure of the inner Milky Way using the latest data release of the Vista Variables in Via Lactea (VVV) survey. The VVV is a deep near-infrared, multi-colour photometric survey with a coverage of 300 square degrees towards the Bulge/Bar. We use Red Clump (RC) stars to produce a high-resolution dust map of the VVV's field of view. From de-reddened colour-magnitude diagrams we select Red Giant Branch stars to investigate their 3D density distribution within the central 4 kpc. We demonstrate that our best-fit parametric model of the Bulge density provides a good description of the VVV data, with a median percentage residual of 5$\%$ over the fitted region. The strongest of the o…

A Hard X-Ray View of Scorpius X-1 with INTEGRAL : Nonthermal Emission?

2006

We present here simultaneous INTEGRAL/RXTE observations of Sco X-1, and in particular a study of the hard X-ray emission of the source and its correlation with the position in the Z-track of the X-ray color-color diagram. We find that the hard X-ray (above about 30 keV) emission of Sco X-1 is dominated by a power-law component with a photon index of ~3. The flux in the power-law component slightly decreases when the source moves in the color-color diagram in the sense of increasing inferred mass accretion rate from the horizontal branch to the normal branch/flaring branch vertex. It becomes not significantly detectable in the flaring branch, where its flux has decreased by about an order of…

P1319 Speckle tracking echocardiography in patients with acute coronary syndrome: the added value

2020

Abstract Background Speckle tracking echocardiography with assessment of left ventricular global longitudinal strain (GLS) allows to identify early signs of cardiac dysfunction. The superiority of GLS in the prediction of all-cause mortality in the general population compared with LVEF is well known; in addiction GLS improves risk stratification and recognize early left ventricular dysfunction in several clinical setting. Purpose the aim of this study was to assess the diagnostic and prognostic role of global and segmental strain in the early identification of cardiac dysfunction in patients with myocardial infarction without persistent ST segment elevation (NSTEMI) and without obvious wall…

Right bundle branch block and SIQIII-type patterns for risk stratification in acute pulmonary embolism.

2016

Abstract Introduction Risk stratification in acute pulmonary embolism (PE) is crucial for identification of patients with poor prognosis. We aimed to investigate the ECG alterations of right bundle branch block (RBBB) and S I Q III -type patterns for risk stratification in acute PE. Materials and methods Retrospective analysis of PE patients, treated in the Internal Medicine Department, was performed. Patients with RBBB and/or S I Q III -type were compared with those without both patterns. Logistic regression models for association between these ECG alterations and respectively right ventricular dysfunction (RVD), high-risk PE status and myocardial injury were computed. Results 175 patients…

Assessment of chronic aortic dissection: contribution of different ECG-gated breath-hold MRI techniques.

2004

Our objective was to evaluate the impact of different rapid MRI techniques for the assessment and follow-up of chronic aortic dissections.Fifty-three patients (41 postoperative Stanford type A, 12 type B dissections) were scanned at 1.5 T during a 3-year period. The study reviewed ECG-gated breath-hold black blood sequences and 3D contrast-enhanced MR angiography of the thoracic aorta supplemented by segmented cine and phase-contrast imaging as well as abdominal contrast-enhanced MR angiography. A retrospective separate analysis of black blood acquisitions and contrast-enhanced MR angiograms from a total of 72 examinations was performed by two radiologists to evaluate detection of intimal f…

[Double second branchial cleft anomaly].

2009

Second branchial cleft anomalies are the most common of this type of neck masses. They can be classified in four types (Bailey/Proctor classification) according to their location. Type II is the most common, and related to vital neck structures such as the carotid artery and jugular vein. Cysts are the most frequent among them. Management consists of surgical excision of the cyst and tract by cervicotomy to avoid recurrence. We present an extremely rare case of a 32-year-old male who presented a sudden appearance of a right lateral neck mass that was identified by an image study as a double branchial cleft cyst. A review of simultaneous branchial cleft cyst in the literature is also made.

Correlated X-ray spectral and timing variability of the Be/X-ray binary V0332+53/BQ Camelopardalis during a type II outburst

2005

We have used INTEGRAL & RXTE data to investigate the timing properties of the source in correlation with its spectral states as defined by different positions in the colour-colour diagram. The source shows two distinct branches in the colour-colour diagram that resemble those of the Z sources. The hard branch (similar to the horizontal branch of Z sources) is characterised by a low-amplitude change of the hard colour compared to the change in the soft colour. In the soft branch (analogue to the normal branch) the amplitude of variability of the hard colour is about three times larger than that of the soft colour. As the count rate decreases the source moves up gradually through the soft…

Supernormal conduction in the right bundle branch: lack of influence of autonomic blockade.

1984

A programmed atrial stimulation at a driving rate of 100/min was performed in a 47-year-old woman with left bundle branch block. Supernormal conduction lasting 40 ms was revealed within the right bundle branch. After autonomic blockade (0.2 mg propranolol/kg body weight and 0.04 mg atropine/kg body weight) the position and duration of the supernormal conduction did not change. This suggests that the autonomic nervous system has no influence on the supernormal phase of conduction in the human intraventricular conduction system.
