Zinsser-Cole-Engmann syndrome: A rare case report with literature review

2014

Zinsser-Cole-Engmann syndrome, more commonly known as Dyskeratosis Congenita, is a heritable genodermatosis having an estimated incidence of 1 in 1 million people. It is important for an oral physician to be aware of this condition as oral leukoplakia occurs in this condition as part of a classic triad along with reticulate skin pigmentation and nail dystrophy. Besides these, there may be myriad multisystem involvement as well. These individuals have a high predilection for developing malignancies as well as other grave life-threatening conditions. Timely diagnosis and management of these cases may help improve their morbidity and mortality, for which oral physicians can play a major role i…

Verso un diritto penale geneticamente modificato? A proposito di un recente progetto di riforma dei reati agroalimentari

2016

The article analyses, first of all, – also in a comparative key – the most significant problematic aspects emerging from the resort, very frequent in the food sector, to typification techniques based on references to European legislation. Lexical hybridisms and precautionary needs of the European model of food security risk to affect the classical categories of criminal law, not only at the level of relevant concepts, but also at that of fundamental principles. After an overall look to the contents of the reform Project of agro-food crimes elaborated by the Caselli Commission in 2015, the study focuses particularly on the way the Project suggests to rewrite the cornerstone offence establish…

Dental-gingival remodeling with BOPT no-prep veneers

2017

Recent years have seen increasing demand for treatments aimed at improving dental esthetics. In this context, both patients and dentists prefer to preserve dental structures as far as possible; thanks to technological advances, especially in adhesive dentistry, new materials and minimally invasive techniques such as “no-prep” (no preparation) veneers have made this possible. Nevertheless, no-prep veneers have specific indications and suffer certain disadvantages. Objectives: This clinical case describes the rehabilitation of the upper anterior region by means of no-prep veneers, with BOPT (Biologically Oriented Preparation Technique) cervical margins. The patient had requested an aesthetic …

Immediate placement of single implant simultaneously with immediate loading in a fresh socket associated to periapical infection: a clinical case rep…

2015

Early restoration of the masticatory function, phonatory and aesthetics is some of the current goals of the therapy based on endosseous implants. Facing the classic protocols of implant insertion, which recommend a period of several months between extraction and implant placement, alternatives have been developed that demonstrate that immediate implant placement after tooth extraction permits adequate osseointegration, even in those cases where there is a periapical disease. The immediate restoration of implants after placement is a possibility where aesthetic requirements are high. This article presents a case with immediate implant placement and immediate loading of a first upper premolar…

Experimental Evaluation of Protein Secondary Structure Predictors

2009

Understanding protein biological function is a key issue in modern biology, which is largely determined by its 3D shape. Protein 3D shape, in its turn, is functionally implied by its amino acid sequence. Since the direct inspection of such 3D structures is rather expensive and time consuming, a number of software techniques have been developed in the last few years that predict a spatial model, either of the secondary or of the tertiary form, for a given target protein starting from its amino acid sequence. This paper offers a comparison of several available automatic secondary structure prediction tools. The comparison is of the experimental kind, where two relevant sets of proteins, a non…

Chelation of a proton by oxidized diphosphines

2012

Abstract The chelation of a proton by oxidized diphosphines is studied for the first time both experimentally and theoretically. As a proof of concept the rare case where two different H-bond systems exist in one compound, H[7,8-(OP i Pr 2 ) 2 -7,8- nido -C 2 B 9 H 10 ] is reported. Based on NBO, QTAIM and ELF calculations, the P–O⋯H + ⋯O–P interactions were characterized as strong hydrogen bonds.

Childhood trauma and substance use underlying psychosis: a systematic review

2020

[EN] Background: Schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSD) are mental diseases caused by a combination of genetic susceptibility and a number of environmental factors. Among these factors, the role of traumatic events suffered in childhood, as well as that of substance use, have been of particular research interest. Objectives: To conduct a systematic review to clarify whether there is an interaction between childhood trauma and substance use related to the diagnosis or symptoms of SSD. It was also the objective of this review to collate the associations that may exist between the three variables of the study (trauma, substance use and psychosis). Methods: We conducted a systematic search resu…

Understanding and working with existential information in a Norwegian adolescent psychiatry context: a need and a challenge

2014

This is one of several studies on existential information in psychotherapy in Southern Norway. The aim of this study was to explore how therapists' backgrounds and existential information influence their therapeutic practice and philosophy of care, and the use of existential information in psychotherapy. The method used was qualitative, semi-structured interviews. Through emerging themes from the interviews and clinical case illustrations, information relating to therapists' backgrounds and existential orientations strongly influenced: therapeutic practice, philosophy of care, and if as well as how existential information was used in therapy. Professional and continued education/training in…
