Initial Coin Offering (ICO) as a Fundraising Strategy : A Multiple Case Study on Success Factors

2019

Cryptocurrencies and Initial Coin Offerings (ICO) are some of the more prominent examples of currently used blockchain technology applications. Especially software startups have leveraged ICOs to gain funding early on in their lifecycles, going on to develop and create new blockchain based applications. Recently, larger companies such as Facebook have also begun to show interest in cryptocurrency, although thus far not for funding purposes in the form of ICOs. In this paper, we investigate factors that positively affect the abilities of companies to meet their fundraising goals via ICOs. We first identify a set of factors from extant literature and then seek to further confirm the effect of…

Generating App Product Lines in a Model-Driven Cross-Platform Development Approach

2016

Within software product lines (SPL) similar software products are created based on common features. We applied this versatile approach to cross-platform app development by extending the domain-specific language (DSL) of an established model-driven development framework. The goal was to support the formulation of coherent building blocks of business use cases, referred to as workflow elements. While the former implementation already abstracted from technical details and provided the possibility to reuse low level features, it now enables to build business apps by combining coherent, self-contained workflow elements. Providing this support on the language level facilitates reusable component-…

On the Generalizability of Programs Synthesized by Grammar-Guided Genetic Programming

2021

Grammar-guided Genetic Programming is a common approach for program synthesis where the user’s intent is given by a set of input/output examples. For use in real-world software development, the generated programs must work on previously unseen test cases too. Therefore, we study in this work the generalizability of programs synthesized by grammar-guided GP with lexicase selection. As benchmark, we analyze proportionate and tournament selection too. We find that especially for program synthesis problems with a low output cardinality (e.g., a Boolean output) lexicase selection overfits the training cases and does not generalize well to unseen test cases. An analysis using common software metr…

A generalizability measure for program synthesis with genetic programming

2021

The generalizability of programs synthesized by genetic programming (GP) to unseen test cases is one of the main challenges of GP-based program synthesis. Recent work showed that increasing the amount of training data improves the generalizability of the programs synthesized by GP. However, generating training data is usually an expensive task as the output value for every training case must be calculated manually by the user. Therefore, this work suggests an approximation of the expected generalization ability of solution candidates found by GP. To obtain candidate solutions that all solve the training cases, but are structurally different, a GP run is not stopped after the first solution …

Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes in International Law: The Special Case of the Mediterranean Area

1997

AbstractSince the early 1980s different organisations have tried to enact international instruments to control international waste trade. The Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal was adopted in 1989 under the auspices of UNEP in order to protect human health and the environment against the adverse effects which may result from the management of waste involved in transboundary movements of hazardous waste and its disposal. The Basel Convention has evolved significantly in eight years-whereas only 35 states and the EC signed the Convention at the time of its adoption, more than 113 states have ratified it as to August 1997. Several …

Multifocal adult rhabdomyoma of the head and neck: a case report and literature review.

2008

Adult rhabdomyoma is a rare, usually solitary, primary tumour of striated muscle origin that almost exclusively presents in the head and neck region with predilection for male. We herein present a rare case of a multifocal adult rhabdomyoma in a 72-year-old woman. The lesions were located, the first one in the area of the left aryepiglottic fold and the second one right cervical arising from oesophagus. The diagnosis of the cervical mass was obtained prior to resection through cytological examination (FNAC). We discuss the clinical, cytological and histological findings and we provide a brief review of the literature on this entity.

Accuracy of stereotactic coordinate transformation using a localisation frame and computed tomographic imaging

1999

The accuracy of coordinate transformation from a CT image to a stereotactic frame was investigated for stereotactic systems using a localisation frame and matrix-based coordinate transformation. The main source of error influencing calculation was input data, due to inaccurate calculation of the centres of the rods of the localisation frame in the CT image, and the propagation of this input error during subsequent matrix calculation. Systemic errors during matrix calculation do not exist, and rounding off errors were of subordinate importance compared to the input data error. The influence of input data error on coordinate transformation was studied by geometric methods, computer simulation…

Il reporting per segmenti nei settori del trasporto pubblico locale e della cura della salute. Esperienze a confronto.

2020

This paper examines issues of cost and revenue allocation that arise when segment reporting is carried out in local public transportation and healthcare companies. It also presents reports by segment schemes that can be used by companies operating in the aforementioned sectors. The research was carried out with the qualitative methods of participant observation and document analysis. this study focuses on the-oretical principles that have been derived from experiences carried out in the design and implementation of a segment reporting system in two companies operating in the public transportation and healthcare sectors. The analysis of the issues and solu-tions adopted by the companies obse…

Sport and Quality of Life

2022

but also when he took the form of free time practice through which to keep fit making grow in this case the diffusion of a culture of health and well-being. These are two ways of approaching the consumption of sports by spectators and actorIn the last thirty years sport has taken on a very significant meaning in people's lives and albeit with considerable differences both in advanced economic development countries and in developing countries. On an individual level it constituted an area of identity investment when it assumed the shape of “sport spectacle” to be enjoyed fueling the practice of cheering and fandom or constituting the model of a winning lifestyleand the two ways of use can be strongly related to the perception and assessment of the quality of life. The “semantic universes” which however connote sport and “free time sports” have often appeared polarized. Commercial sport and sports professionalism are intertwined with the institutions of economics politics and culture which above all stress its “spectacularity” in order to capture first and foremost the audience. But also the sport of leisure time is intertwined with the actions of the institutions of economics politics and culture with the difference that these stress above all its “healthy value” aimed at the “healthy and rational” investment of time in an activity which improves the quality of life in the short medium and long period. This polarization between the consumption of sport entertainment - commercial sport - and the consumption of sport as a leisure activity - sport for all - has become increasingly interconnected precisely because of the increased collective identity demand via sport. In other words we have witnessed the spread of shape of sports entertainment that recall the importance of sports for psychophysical well-being for integration and social participation for the reduction of social inequalities ethnic and cultural differences and in which the importance assumed was weakened in the show from agonism from competition from the physical confrontation between two contenders or two teams. A sport in which we act with competitors as well as against competitors. And on the other hand we have gradually witnessed the spectacularization of sports in our free time to the point that the sharing of the results obtained through the declination of a competitive spirit that presents itself as directed no longer against other contenders but against its own performance limits it has become the way in which each person makes part of his or her own life spectacular the one he often considers most authentic. The aim of this work is to describe how the intertwining between the commercial/professional dimension of the sports show and the playful/recreational dimension of sports practice are fueled by a demand and an offer of social identity that characterizes these two “semantic universes”.Settore SPS/07 - Sociologia Generale
