COMPLEX ANALYSIS OF COMPANY BANKRUPTCY FORECASTING: THEORETICAL INSIGHT

2018

In modern conditions for dynamic and competitive businesses, more and more companies face financial problems and eventually go bankrupt. A noteworthy trend: not only new companies that have not yet managed to establish themselves in the market go bankrupt but also large companies operating for years and maintaining good traditions. Bankruptcies of companies cause many problems not only for the companies themselves but also for the state and many members of society. Thus, it is crucial to evaluate the financial state of a company and its activity results as accurately and early as possible when forecasting the possibility of a bankruptcy. The paper recommends a complex analysis methodology f…

The impact of the gut microbiome in Alzheimer's disease

2020

Abstract Alzheimer's disease is a devastating neurodegenerative disease clearly characterized by loss of synapses, changes in metabolism, and neuronal death in brain tissue. The impact of nutrition and other lifestyle factors on pathomechanisms has been extensively investigated in recent decades. However, one main issue has been out of focus during these research efforts—the human body is not a single entity but provides an ecological niche for a huge number of other organisms, its microbial flora. These microorganisms outnumber the host's genetic pool indisputably. While the human encodes for 30,000 genes, the microbiome of the gastrointestinal tract inherits a multitude of commensal micro…

Frailty as a predictor of all-cause mortality in older men and women

2014

Aims To investigate the modifying effect of sex on the association between frailty and all-cause mortality, and to determine the effects of changes in frailty status on mortality. Methods This population-based study comprised 654 persons aged 76–100 years (mean age 82 ± 4.6 years). Frailty status was assessed at baseline in 2005, and reassessed in 2007 (n = 546) using the Cardiovascular Health Study criteria. Death dates were received from the official register until the end of 2009. The associations between frailty, changes in frailty and mortality were investigated using Cox regression models. Results At baseline, 93 (14%) participants were classified as frail, and 311 (48%) as pre-frail.…

Combined associations of body weight and lifestyle factors with all cause and cause specific mortality in men and women: prospective cohort study

2016

Objective  To evaluate the combined associations of diet, physical activity, moderate alcohol consumption, and smoking with body weight on risk of all cause and cause specific mortality. Design  Longitudinal study with up to 32 years of follow-up. Setting  Nurses’ Health Study (1980-2012) and Health Professionals Follow-up Study (1986-2012). Participants  74 582 women from the Nurses’ Health Study and 39 284 men from the Health Professionals Follow-up Study who were free from cardiovascular disease and cancer at baseline. Main outcome measures  Exposures included body mass index (BMI), score on the alternate healthy eating index, level of physical activity, smoking habits, and alcohol drink…

Physical activity, fitness, and all-cause mortality: An 18-year follow-up among old people

2016

Background: Little is known about change in physical activity (PA) and its relationship to all-cause mortality among old people. There is even less information about the association between PA, fitness, and all-cause mortality among people aged 80 years and above. The objective is to investigate persistence and change in PA over 5 years as a predictor of all-cause mortality, and fitness as a mediator of this association, among people aged 80 and 85 years at the beginning of an 18-year mortality follow-up period. Methods: Using Evergreen Project data (started in 1989), 4 study groups were formed according to self-reported changes in PA level, over a 5-year period (starting in 1989–1990 and e…

Forecasting Hepatitis C liver disease burden on real-life data. Does the hidden iceberg matter to reach the elimination goals?

2018

Abstract Background & Aims Advances in direct‐acting antiviral treatment of HCV have reinvigorated public health initiatives aimed at identifying affected individuals. We evaluated the possible impact of only diagnosed and linked‐to‐care individuals on overall HCV burden estimates and identified a possible strategy to achieve the WHO targets by 2030. Methods Using a modelling approach grounded in Italian real‐life data of diagnosed and treated patients, different linkage‐to‐care scenarios were built to evaluate potential strategies in achieving the HCV elimination goals. Results Under the 40% linked‐to‐care scenario, viraemic burden would decline (60%); however, eligible patients to treat w…

We therefore questioned the existence and effect of current drought management strategies on the actual impacts and how drought is perceived by relevant stakeholders. Over 700 participants from 28 European countries provided insights into drought hazard and impact perception and current management strategies. The study concludes with an urgent need to collectively combat drought risk via a European macro-level drought governance approach.11. Quelques aspects de la contradiction et de la remise en cause dans le genre Letters to the editor

2001

The aim of this study is to pick out a few discursive strategies in two research communities and to perform a comparative analysis of their linguist…
