ENERGY FOR ROMANIA FROM RENEWABLE RESOURCES

2012

The European Union admits the fact that energy is essential, for the development of the European economy, but that it also constitutes a challenge, due to the impact on climate change. In Romania, as well as in all the countries of the European Union, which have chosen to promote renewable energy, governments have come up with support frameworks for investors in this field. In Romania’s case, the option for green schemes and compulsory quotas was selected, meaning that each energy producer, which produces renewable energy, receives a number of green certificates for each MW produced, depending on the technology it uses. The price of such a green certificate varies between 27 – 55 Euros. The…

Influence of temperature on extreme rainfall intensity in Sicily (Italy)

2018

Some climate model experiments suggest an intensification of short-duration extreme precipitation in many parts of the world associated with a warming climate. This behavior could have a physical motivation due to the fact that warmer air has the potential to hold more atmospheric moisture and, then, to provide more water to rainfall events. The theoretical basis of the relationship that links air temperature and atmospheric humidity is provided by the Clausius-Clapeyron relation, according to which, if the relative humidity remains constant, then atmospheric humidity will increase with temperature at a rate (often referred to as CC-rate) in the order of 6-7% °C-1, following the saturation …

Adapting agroforestry to future climate scenarios: The LIFE project Desert-Adapt

2019

Increasing scientific evidences indicate that agroforestry is a land use that can support economic, social and environmental sustainability, thus promoting resistance and resilience towards ongoing climate changes. The implementation and management of agroforestry systems still face social, economic and political barriers. Mediterranean agroecosystems suffer from increasingly negative climate change effects and urgent measures are needed to improve their rural economy while protecting soils and the environment. In this context, the LIFE Project Desert-Adapt: “Preparing desertification areas for increased climate change” (http://www.desert-adapt.it), aims to demonstrate the feasibility of in…

Alternatives to the present global development pattern : ecovillages – a model for sustainable living?

2016

Master thesis development management - University of Agder 2016 The current way of development is exhausting the planets limitations, the continues increase in consumption are degrading the nature that is relied on for human existence. Thus, it is necessary to define an alternative way of developing. The aim is to achieve happiness for all, sustaining the resources of the planet. Ecovillages are recognized as a sustainable alternative which encompasses a holistic approach to the term sustainability. Through qualitative research in the form of participatory observations, interviews and a survey performed in Gambhira, an ecovillage in rural Colombia, the sustainability, educational mission as…

From sustainability to sustainable development: the role of food banks in food security in Uganda : a case study of the hunger project food bank - Mb…

2014

Master thesis in development management - University of Agder 2014 The purpose of this study is to identify the role the food bank plays for food security, sustainable livelihoods and building resilience to climate change among smallholder farmers in Uganda. The aim is to investigate how the food bank in Uganda operates in relation to food security and smallholder farmers. Much of the studies on food banks reveal that food banks are merely institutions that offer emergency food supplies to the hungry and are not agencies aiming at food security. These studies have, however, been based on the context of developed countries and no study has been conducted to establish the role of food banks i…

Climate projections over France wine-growing region and its potential impact on phenology

2022

Climate change represents a major challenge for the French wine industry. Climatic conditions in French vineyards have already changed and will continue to evolve. One of the notable effects on grapevine is the advancing growing season. The aim of this study is to characterise the evolution of agroclimatic indicators (Huglin index, number of hot days, mean temperature, cumulative rainfall and number of rainy days during the growing season) at French wine-growing regions scale between 1980 and 2019 using gridded data (8 km resolution, SAFRAN) and for the middle of the 21th century (2046-2065) with 21 GCMs statistically debiased and downscaled at 8 km. A set of three phenological models were …
