Anthropology of misery: poverty and the media

2010

The present work explores the connections between the Argentinean press and the ear - thquake that struck Haiti in early 2010. It…

Long-period grating assisted fractional differentiation of highly chirped light pulses

2016

We experimentally demonstrate the possibility to perform a fractional differentiation of arbitrary order on a given light pulse by propagation through a single long-period grating. A simple analytical expression is obtained also, relating the fractional order of differentiation with the parameters of the long-period grating. A secant hyperbolic like pulse of 23 ps time width with a chirp parameter of -30 was successfully fractionally differentiated to the 0.5th order. The proposal was corroborated experimentally and numerically. The device may find applications in real time phase recovery. Fil: Poveda Wong, L.. Universidad de Valencia; España Fil: Carrascosa, A.. Cerebral Dynamics during the Observation of Point-Light Displays Depicting Postural Adjustments

2017

Objective: As highly social creatures, human beings rely part of their skills of identifying, interpreting, and predicting the actions of others on the ability of perceiving biological motion. In the present study, we aim to investigate the electroencephalographic (EEG) cerebral dynamics involved in the coding of postural control and examine whether upright stance would be codified through the activation of the temporal-parietal cortical network classically enrolled in the coding of biological motion. Design: We registered the EEG activity of 12 volunteers while they passively watched point light displays (PLD) depicting quiet stable (QB) and an unstable (UB) postural situations and their r…

Raons essencials i creença

2003

In this paper I defend that what I call modes of denotation are part of one¿s belief content, even if they are not part of the proposition expressed by the sentence one believes to be true. Two people, who believe of the same sentence (not ambiguous) that it is true can have different belief contents that they express by means of this same sentence.

El Concepto de transfinitud en García Bacca

2011

This paper presents the notion of transfinite developed by García Bacca in his «Infinito, transfinito, finito». This concept is a reaction to the Aristotelian concepts of «nature» and «finite», making man a historical being. García Bacca argues that man has lost his nature and his finitude through technology. So, strictly speaking, is not finite, nor infinite.

Corrección: una cuestión de estilo

2009

This paper is devoted to ask if Aesthetics today can be considered in the way of Baumgarten and Kant or it can be considered like a way to produce truth and truthfulness. Opposite to the ontological truth (aletheia) and the logic truth (homoisosis) the writer, from a point of view of Aesthetics, propose considering also truth like correctness, orthotés in classical Greek and rectitudo in Latin.

La filosofía y sus lógicas

2003

It is common use at the end of the century to make retrospectives in all domains: politics, sciences, military, arts... This has also been made in philosophy, and it tries to explain the world from fightings between one another, lists of great men names, the death of the field itself, rhapsodies of schools and philosophers, conceptual exhibitions of external problems (biographic, politic or colonial ones) and so on. In this paper, it is intended to give a criterium internal to the philosophy itself, in order to classify the philosophical thought all along the 20th century. This criterium has to be built as a philosophical idea in which are situated the methods, the ontologies and the ethics…
