Le Clarisse di Palermo nei secoli XIV e XV

Nel Trecento a Palermo l’ordine di Santa Chiara fu sostenuto economicamente dal ceto cavalleresco e nobiliare. Tra il 1330 e nel 1341 il conte Matteo Sclafani fondò un monastero di Clarisse, nel quartiere Cassaro, nel palazzo ereditato dallo zio Matteo di Termini, maestro giustiziere. Le badesse appartenevano a ricche famiglie del ceto nobiliare (Angela Chiaromonte) e produttivo (Agata de Garofalo). Nella prima metà del Quattrocento il convento fu retto da Margherita de Mecta che tra il 1451 e il 1454, ormai vecchia e malata, si scontrò con Costanza de Milina per il possesso della carica di badessa. This paper is aimed to analyze, in a preliminar way, the ancient road system in a selected area of the Northern Sicily, between Segesta and Trapani. The focus are the connections between main roads (the so-called via Valeria and the hypothetical pathways) and settlements, the morphological context and the most significant toponyms from the archaeological point of view. The research is carried out by the archaeological data, contemporary and historical cartography, and it is also focused on the secondary roads.

In the current (post-) pandemic context and through the lens of a southern European perspective the purpose of this article is to critically reflect about the role of culture as possible vehicle of urban and community regeneration. In particular we will focus on the activities of the no profit organization «Laboratorio Zen Insieme» in ZEN2 one of the last large popular and peripheral neighborhoods built in Palermo at the end of 80s in order to explore and understand how cultural practices work as agent of urban and social transformation capable of addressing emerging issues especially in the pandemic scenario we are experiencing. Thecasestudy has been conducted through analysis of documents participative observations (Honer and Hitzler 2015) and qualitative in-depth interviews with key actors involved in the conception organization and management of the activities carried out by Laboratorio Zen Insieme with representatives of local institutions and non-formal conversations with participants of the workshops heldin the neighborhood. The experience we narrate finds that cultural practices have re-conceptualized their design and functions as strategies of urban and community regeneration and at the same time have contributed to answer to emergent issues in developing proximity and local based strategies facing up to problems inherent civil rights educationalpoverty socio-spatial justice and have changed the image and identity of urban places they inhabit.In this sense the research provides a framework for development of strategies and legitimization for cultural practices and a point of discussionabouttheirrolein urban development.Although all cities in the world have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic its impacts on the territories yet to be understood are unevenly distributed revealing extremely varied imbalances depending on the places. Short term associations of ambient nitrogen dioxide with daily total, cardiovascular, and respiratory mortality: multilocation analysis in 398 cities

Objective To evaluate the short term associations between nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and total, cardiovascular, and respiratory mortality across multiple countries/regions worldwide, using a uniform analytical protocol. Design Two stage, time series approach, with overdispersed generalised linear models and multilevel meta-analysis. Setting 398 cities in 22 low to high income countries/regions. The paper discusses some difficulties that life in Anthropocene poses to our ethical thinking. It describes the sort of ethical task that individuals find themselves confronting when dealing with the planetary environmental quandaries that characterise the new epoch.
