AGRIGENTO SMART - Integration and sustainability in the regeneration of an urban public space. A case study.

2017

Agrigento, city of the Valley of the Temples, for a few decades it is only known for the "unauthorised development" (or sacco edilizio between the '50s and' 70s of the twentieth century). Today is trying to regain possession of those urban spaces subtracted from a foolish speculation, assigning to them a renewed urban and social connotation, beauty and utility, trying to heal some of the major wounds of the past. With the awareness that it is not a path easy, nor immediate. The issue of public space, and its renewed use today, assumes a crucial role in the process of urban regeneration. Our focus, of multidisciplinary approach, is aimed at the southern edge of the old town called "Square Ra…

THE THEORETICAL ASPECTS OF WELL-BEING IN THE CONTEXT OF LIFELONG LEARNING

2017

In 2006 the European Parliament and European Union Council has defined eight key competences for lifelong learning, necessary for personal fulfillment and development, active citizenship, social inclusion and employment. Since the economic crisis of 2008, the world is looking for new ways and methods to ensure the well-fare and reformulate the value of human life. Currently at EU level, one of the most important debates closely connected with the basic context of lifelong learning is on the dimensions of life quality.

The desk study deals with the qualitative content analysis of the documents of EU, OECD, data of the projects of Office of National Statistics in Latvia, the U.K.…

Formare gli studenti universitari alla Cittadinanza Digitale

2023

Today digital media are configured as social environments that expand our personal, cultural, social and educational reality, therefore measuring citizens’ activities in online environments is of fundamental importance. In the last decade, different scholars have proposed different definitions of the digital citizenship and different measurement tools. Most definitions focus on two conceptions of digital citizenship, some more inherent in digital skills and others centered on critical aspects and civic engagement. In this study, we present the translation and Italian adaptation of two scales: the Digital Citizenship Scale by Al-Zahrani (2015) and the Digital Citizenship Scale by Choi, Glass…

Folkhälsans seniorboende och aktivt åldrande : BoAktiv-studien

2019

Practicing Ballot Secrecy : Postal Voting and the Witness Requirement at the 2019 Finnish Elections

2021

Electoral rights belong to the core of citizenship in democratic nation-states. Voting, then, represents an actualization of the relationship between the citizen and the political community. For citizens living outside the country in which they are eligible to vote, voting signifies a rare institutional connection to the country of origin. The aim of this article is to explore the introduction of the postal vote, a new form of voting for external voters at Finnish elections, from the grassroots perspective. The study focuses on how a central policy concern, safeguarding ballot secrecy, was resolved in the policy implementation by the witness requirement, and how the individual voters subseq…

RISC Monitor audience rating and its implications for journalistic practice

2008

Conceptualizations of good news are increasingly driven by detailed audience research. This article examines the application of Research Institute on Social Change (RISC) Monitor in the context of Finnish press journalistic practice and considers the views on journalism and the audience RISC Monitor reinforces. This international and widely used market research tool monitors social change by analysing people's life-styles, attitudes and values. Here the focus is on the implications the use of RISC Monitor has for the idea(l)s of journalism as the transmission of information and as a resource for public participation and active citizenship. The study is based on qualitative interviews with …

2018

This article describes the main results of an ethnographic study on citizen participation carried out in the context of the development of the Urban Initiative (2007-2015): Cuenca-Barrio de San Antón. Managed by the City Council of Cuenca and financed by the European Regional Development Funds (FEDER) under the Ministry of Economy and Finance at the Government of Spain The results of the research show how in the context of the application of neoliberal policies, citizen participation becomes the trigger for new conflicts between institutions and citizens. In this sense, it is worth noting how, in practice, institutions in their capacity as experts and not willing to dis-empower themselves, …
