The article analyses the relationship between citizens’ trust in local government institutions and participation in local governance. The research results have revealed that citizens’ trust in local government is still low and participation lacks activeness. Civic participation is more active than political participation. For some scholars, the possibilities for diminishing the European democratic deficit and the Union’s legitimacy crisis are intertwined with the creation of a European demos and a European public sphere, that, in turn, can create a European civil solidarity. Maģistra darbs „Marihuānas dekriminalizācija Eiropas Savienībā kā sociālā kustība 21.gadsimtā” ir veltīts Eiropas iedzīvotāju uzskatu un tendenču attīstības novērošanai. Juridiskais statuss marihuānas personiskai lietošanai ir viens no pretrunīgākajiem politiskajiem jautājumiem, kas iezīmē demokrātijas kontekstā pastāvošo konfliktu starp veselības aizsardzības un vienlīdzības principiem. Darbā ir izpētīts, kā attīstījusies marihuānas politika ASV, Nīderlandē un Latvijā, un kas sekmēja stingrākas marihuānas politikas veidošanu Eiropas Savienībā. Our research on Latvian older women challenges the trope of vulnerability which generally surrounds the framing of older migrants’ lives. Through their ability to be mobile, find work, and experience a sensual reawakening, Latvian older women are able to question stereotypes about ageing and older women. They are able to escape their poor, dead-end lives in Latvia and develop a better future for themselves.
