Search for Direct Top Squark Pair Production in Final States with One Isolated Lepton, Jets, and Missing Transverse Momentum in root s=7 TeV pp Colli…

2012

A search is presented for direct top squark pair production in final states with one isolated electron or muon, jets, and missing transverse momentum in proton-proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV. The measurement is based on 4.7 fb(-1) of data collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Each top squark is assumed to decay to a top quark and the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP). The data are found to be consistent with standard model expectations. Top squark masses between 230 GeV and 440 GeV are excluded with 95% confidence for massless LSPs, and top squark masses around 400 GeV are excluded for LSP masses up to 125 GeV.

Proton polarizabilities from polarized Compton scattering: low-energy expansion

2014

We reexamine the low-energy expansion of polarized Compton scattering off the proton and show that the leading non-Born contribution to the beam asymmetry of low-energy Compton scattering is given by the magnetic polarizability alone, the electric polarizability cancels out. Based on this fact we propose to determine the magnetic dipole polarizability of the proton from the beam asymmetry. We also present the low-energy expansion of doubly-polarized observables, from which the spin polarizabilities can be extracted.

Theory of the Lamb shift and Fine Structure in muonic $\mathrm{^4He}$ ions and the muonic $\mathrm{^3He-^4He}$ Isotope Shift

2016

We provide an up to date summary of the theory contributions to the 2S-2P Lamb shift and the fine structure of the 2P state in the muonic helium ion $(\mathrm{\mu^4He})^+$. This summary serves as the basis for the extraction of the alpha particle charge radius from the muonic helium Lamb shift measurements at the Paul Scherrer Institute, Switzerland. Individual theory contributions needed for a charge radius extraction are compared and compiled into a consistent summary. The influence of the alpha particle charge distribution on the elastic two-photon exchange is studied to take into account possible model-dependencies of the energy levels on the electric form factor of the nucleus. We also…

Precision Mass Measurement of $^{58-63}$Cr: Nuclear Collectivity towards the $N=40$ Island of Inversion

2018

The neutron-rich isotopes $^{58-63}$Cr were produced for the first time at the ISOLDE facility and their masses were measured with the ISOLTRAP spectrometer. The new values are up to 300 times more precise than those in the literature and indicate significantly different nuclear structure from the new mass-surface trend. A gradual onset of deformation is found in this proton and neutron mid-shell region, which is a gateway to the second island of inversion around \emph{N}=40. In addition to comparisons with density-functional theory and large-scale shell-model calculations, we present predictions from the valence-space formulation of the \emph{ab initio} in-medium similarity renormalization…

Isomeric fission yield ratios for odd-mass Cd and In isotopes using the Phase-Imaging Ion-Cyclotron-Resonance technique

2018

Isomeric yield ratios for the odd-$A$ isotopes of $^{119-127}$Cd and $^{119-127}$In from 25-MeV proton-induced fission on natural uranium have been measured at the JYFLTRAP double Penning trap, by employing the Phase-Imaging Ion-Cyclotron-Resonance technique. With the significantly improved mass resolution of this novel method isomeric states separated by 140 keV from the ground state, and with half-lives of the order of 500 ms, could be resolved. This opens the door for obtaining new information on low-lying isomers, of importance for nuclear structure, fission and astrophysics. In the present work the experimental isomeric yield ratios are used for the estimation of the root-mean-square a…

Determination of accurate rest frequencies and hyperfine structure parameters of cyanobutadiyne, HC5N

2020

Very accurate transition frequencies of HC$_5$N were determined between 5.3 and 21.4 GHz with a Fourier transform microwave spectrometer. The molecules were generated by passing a mixture of HC$_3$N and C$_2$H$_2$ highly diluted in neon through a discharge valve followed by supersonic expansion into the Fabry-Perot cavity of the spectrometer. The accuracies of the data permitted us to improve the experimental $^{14}$N nuclear quadrupole coupling parameter considerably and the first experimental determination of the $^{14}$N nuclear spin-rotation parameter. The transition frequencies are also well suited to determine in astronomical observations the local speed of rest velocities in molecula…
