An asynchronous covert channel using spam
2012
AbstractCurrent Internet e-mail facilities are built onto the foundation of standard rules and protocols, which usually allow a considerable amount of “freedom” to their designers. Each of these standards has been defined based on a number of vendor specific implementations, in order to provide common inter-working procedures for cross-vendor communication. Thus, a lot of optional and redundant information is being exchanged during e-mail sessions, which is available to implement versatile covert channel mechanisms. This work exploits this possibility by presenting a simple but effective steganographic scheme that can be used to deploy robust secret communication through spam e-mails. This s…
Towards a design process for modeling MAS organizations
2012
The design of MAS organizations is a complex activity where a proper methodological approach may offer a significant advantage in enabling the conception of the best solution. Moreover, the aid provided by a supporting tool significantly contributes to make the approach technically sound and it is a fundamental ingredient of a feasible strategy to the development of large MASs. In this paper, we introduce a portion of methodological approach devoted to design MAS organizations and a preliminary version of a specific case tool, named MoT (Moise+ Tool), for supporting activities from design production to automatic code generation. MoT provides four kinds of diagrams based on a definite graphi…
Diffusional Kurtosis Imaging in the Diffusion Imaging in Python Project
2021
ABSTRACTDiffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI) measurements and models provide information about brain connectivity and are sensitive to the physical properties of tissue microstructure. Diffusional Kurtosis Imaging (DKI) quantifies the degree of non-Gaussian diffusion in biological tissue from dMRI. These estimates are of interest because they were shown to be more sensitive to microstructural alterations in health and diseases than measures based on the total anisotropy of diffusion which are highly confounded by tissue dispersion and fiber crossings. In this work, we implemented DKI in the Diffusion in Python (DIPY) project - a large collaborative open-source project which …
Corporate ethical codes as strategic documents: An analysis of success and failure
2009
Ethical codes state the major philosophical principles and values in organizations and function as policy documents which define the responsibilities of organizations to stakeholders. They spell out the conduct expected of employees and articulate the acceptable ethical parameters of behavior in the organization. Most large US and multinational firms today have a code. If utilized effectively and embraced, codes can be key strategic documents in organizations for moderating employee behavior and reducing unethical actions. To be effective they must be communicated well and become a part of the culture of the organization. An ethical code from a major investment bank is analyzed in terms of …
Necessity of Protecting Religious Feelings under Criminal Law in a Democratic State
2021
Offending religious feelings, as referred to in Article 196 of the Polish Penal Code, was criminalized as follows: ‘Any person who offends the religious feelings of others by publicly insulting an object of religious worship or a place dedicated to the public celebration of religious rites shall be liable to a fine, restriction of freedom or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years.’ This study highlights some doubts concerning the protection of freedom of conscience and religion using the example of the crime of offending religious feelings and attempts to prove the necessity of such protection in the Republic of Poland, a democratic state ruled by the law. The study first examines wh…
Overcoming married women’s incapacity under The Spanish Civil code
2018
Somali Contract Law: Constitutional and Comparative Perspectives
2019
The Somali legal system had a very peculiar development. After colonisation, the independent country adopted a Civil law based legal system largely influenced by Italian law. The Civil Code adopted in 1973 was modeled on the Egyptian homologue enriched with other influences, mainly Italian. From the constitutional perspective, the country had three constitutions before the collapse of the state, followed recently by a provisional constitution that introduces a federal system to try to keep the unity of the State under the federal umbrella. The 1973 Somali Civil Code is formally still in force, as after the fall of Siad Barre the state failure brought with it the lack of any authority capabl…
The urban and environmental building code as implementation tool
2014
The frame within which the work is placed refers to the actions necessary to achieve the objectives of the coverage of the consumption of energy from renewable sources compared to the gross final consumption, posed to Regions by 2020, and that can be implemented through various actions involving local gov-ernments including the revision of the Building Regulations municipalities in a sustainable view. Theseactions are increasingly being recognized as energy plan-ning tools for the territories where administrations have committed to the Euro-pean project Covenant of Mayors. The discussion shows how the adoption by the Regions of Guidelines for sustainable Municipal Building Regulations can b…
Inducible Genetic Code Expansion in Eukaryotes
2020
Abstract Genetic code expansion (GCE) is a versatile tool to site‐specifically incorporate a noncanonical amino acid (ncAA) into a protein, for example, to perform fluorescent labeling inside living cells. To this end, an orthogonal aminoacyl‐tRNA‐synthetase/tRNA (RS/tRNA) pair is used to insert the ncAA in response to an amber stop codon in the protein of interest. One of the drawbacks of this system is that, in order to achieve maximum efficiency, high levels of the orthogonal tRNA are required, and this could interfere with host cell functionality. To minimize the adverse effects on the host, we have developed an inducible GCE system that enables us to switch on tRNA or RS expression whe…
Tool Support for Model Driven Development of Pervasive Systems
2007
This work presents the PervML Generative Tool (PervGT) that supports a model driven method for the development of pervasive services in ubiquitous environments. The tool, which is based on the Eclipse platform, provides facilities for the graphical description of pervasive systems using PervML, a UML-like modeling language. Once the pervasive system is specified, the PervML model is used as input to a transformation engine that generates source code and other implementation assets. This generated code extends an OSGi-based framework in order to build the final pervasive applications
