Optimization of Gyrotron Resonator’s Dimensions

This paper explains the procedure of determining the initial dimensions of a gyrotron resonator. In particular, the paper discusses which geometrical parameters impact the wave properties of the resonator. The solution is implemented using Matlab software and estimations are performed with the use of the SMath Studio spreadsheet. © 2021 National Institute of Telecommunications. All rights reserved.

Coupling MCNP-DSP and LAHET Monte Carlo Codes for Designing Subcriticality Monitors for Accelerator-Driven Systems

The design of reactivity monitoring systems for accelerator-driven systems must be investigated to ensure that such systems remain subcritical during operation. The Monte Carlo codes LAHET and MCNP-DSP were combined together to facilitate the design of reactivity monitoring systems. The coupling of LAHET and MCNP-DSP provides a tool that can be used to simulate a variety of subcritical measurements such as the pulsed neutron, Rossi-α, or noise analysis measurements.

Efficiencies of logical Bell measurements on Calderbank-Shor-Steane codes with static linear optics

We show how the efficiency of a logical Bell measurement (BM) can be calculated for arbitrary Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) codes with the experimentally important constraint of using only transversal static linear-optical BMs on the physical single-photon qubit level. For this purpose, we utilize the codes' description in terms of stabilizers in order to calculate general efficiencies for the loss-free case, but also for specific cases including photon loss. These efficiencies can be, for instance, used for obtaining transmission rates of all-optical quantum repeaters. The Random-Phase Approximation

In this chapter we extend the TDA particle-hole formalism of Chap. 9 to include correlations in the nuclear ground state. This sophisticated particle-hole formalism is called the random-phase approximation (RPA). In this description the simple Hartree-Fock particle-hole vacuum is replaced by a correlated ground state involving many-particle-many-hole excitations of the simple particle-hole vacuum. The resulting configuration mixing in excited states is more involved in the RPA than it is in the TDA. The ground-state correlations induce both particle-hole and hole-particle components in the RPA wave function.

Search for new physics using QUAERO: A general interface to D0 Event data

We describe Quaero, a method that i) enables the automatic optimization of searches for physics beyond the standard model, and ii) provides a mechanism for making high energy collider data generally available. We apply Quaero to searches for standard model WW, ZZ, and ttbar production, and to searches for these objects produced through a new heavy resonance. Through this interface, we make three data sets collected by the D0 experiment at sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV publicly available.

Impact of Crystal Habit on Cirrus Radiative Properties

The impact of assumed ice crystal morphology of subtropical cirrus on the solar and thermal infrared (IR) radiative field above, within, and below the cirrus is quantified. For this purpose airborne measurements of ice crystal size distribution from the CRYSTAL-FACE campaign and a library of optical properties of nonspherical ice crystal habits are implemented into radiative transfer simulations.Two cirrus cases are studied in detail: a high (cold) cirrus cloud with small visible optical thickness (τ≈1), and a lower (warmer) cirrus cloud of relatively large visible optical thickness (τ≈7). Rateless codes mitigation technique in a turbulent indoor Free Space Optics link

Free Space Optics (FSO) links are affected by several impairments and, among them, optical turbulence is the most important factor that can degrade the link quality. Due to the presence of this phenomenon, the signal irradiance detected by the receiver fluctuates, thus causing erasure errors and fading events. In this work, we present an indoor Free Space Optics link, in which several turbulence conditions are generated by using two heating elements. On the search for 50 GeV neutrinos

Using the computer code CompHEP we estimate the number of events and the background, at LEP II and TESLA, for the reaction $e^+ e^- \to N\bar{N}\gamma$, where $N$ is a hypothetical Dirac neutrino with mass of the order of 50 GeV.

Sensitivity and Efficiency of the INTEGRAL Imager

A detailed simulation program of the INTEGRAL Imager has been written and implemented using the GEANT-3 Monte Carlo code. The expected detection efficiency and continuum sensitivity have been evaluated. The results obtained for the CsI configuration of the Imager are compared with those obtained with the new configuration which foresees a top plane made of CdTe solid state detector elements.
