New lower bounds for the minimum distance of generalized algebraic geometry codes

2013

Abstract In this paper, we give a new lower bound for generalized algebraic geometry codes with which we are able to construct some new linear codes having better parameters compared with the ones known in the literature. Moreover, we give a relationship between a family of generalized algebraic geometry codes and algebraic geometry codes. Finally, we propose a decoding algorithm for such a family.

A-Codes from Rational Functions over Galois Rings

2006

In this paper, we describe authentication codes via (generalized) Gray images of suitable codes over Galois rings. Exponential sums over these rings help determine--or bound--the parameters of such codes.

A loopless algorithm for generating the permutations of a multiset

2003

AbstractMany combinatorial structures can be constructed from simpler components. For example, a permutation can be constructed from cycles, or a Motzkin word from a Dyck word and a combination. In this paper we present a constructor for combinatorial structures, called shuffle on trajectories (defined previously in a non-combinatorial context), and we show how this constructor enables us to obtain a new loopless generating algorithm for multiset permutations from similar results for simpler objects.

The structure of the state representation of shift invariant controllable and observable group codes

2000

AbstractIn this paper an investigation on the structure of the canonical trellis section of shift invariant, l-controllable and m-observable group codes is carried out. Necessary and sufficient conditions for a set of group homomorphisms in order that they represent the trellis section of this class of codes are established.

On the size of transducers for bidirectional decoding of prefix codes

2012

In a previous paper [L. Giambruno and S. Mantaci, Theoret. Comput. Sci. 411 (2010) 1785–1792] a bideterministic transducer is defined for the bidirectional deciphering of words by the method introduced by Girod [ IEEE Commun. Lett. 3 (1999) 245–247]. Such a method is defined using prefix codes. Moreover a coding method, inspired by the Girod’s one, is introduced, and a transducer that allows both right-to-left and left-to-right decoding by this method is defined. It is proved also that this transducer is minimal. Here we consider the number of states of such a transducer, related to some features of the considered prefix code X . We find some bounds of such a number of states in relation wi…

A Generalization of Girod’s Bidirectional Decoding Method to Codes with a Finite Deciphering Delay

2012

In this paper we generalize an encoding method due to Girod (cf. [6]) using prefix codes, that allows a bidirectional decoding of the encoded messages. In particular we generalize it to any finite alphabet A, to any operation defined on A, to any code with finite deciphering delay and to any key x ∈ A+ , on a length depending on the deciphering delay. We moreover define, as in [4], a deterministic transducer for such generalized method. We prove that, fixed a code X ∈ A* with finite deciphering delay and a key x ∈ A *, the transducers associated to different operations are isomorphic as unlabelled graphs. We also prove that, for a fixed code X with finite deciphering delay, transducers asso…

A Survey on Gaussian Processes for Earth-Observation Data Analysis: A Comprehensive Investigation

2016

Gaussian processes (GPs) have experienced tremendous success in biogeophysical parameter retrieval in the last few years. GPs constitute a solid Bayesian framework to consistently formulate many function approximation problems. This article reviews the main theoretical GP developments in the field, considering new algorithms that respect signal and noise characteristics, extract knowledge via automatic relevance kernels to yield feature rankings automatically, and allow applicability of associated uncertainty intervals to transport GP models in space and time that can be used to uncover causal relations between variables and can encode physically meaningful prior knowledge via radiative tra…

Testing Multi-Sensors Time Series of Lai Estimates to Monitor Rice Phenology: Preliminary Results

2018

Timely and accurate information on crop growth and seasonal dynamics are increasingly needed to develop monitoring systems aimed to detect seasonal anomalies, support site specific management and estimate crop yield at the end of the season. In particular, frequent decametric information nowadays being provided exploiting the new generation of Earth Observation (EO) platforms are fundamental for farm level monitoring. This study presents an analysis aimed at fully exploiting dense time series of EO data derived from the combined use of ESA Sentinel-2A and NASA Landsat-7/8 imageries for crop phenological monitoring. Decametric Leaf Area Index (LAI) maps were generated for the year 2016 by in…

Suppression of radiative losses of surface polaritons on nanostructured thin metal films

2005

The strong electromagnetic coupling between surface plasmon polariton modes on opposite interfaces of a finite thickness periodically nanostructured metal film has been studied. Surface polariton dispersion and associated electromagnetic field distributions have been analyzed. It was shown that at a frequency that corresponds to the crossing of film Bloch modes of different symmetries, the radiative losses of surface polaritons that are related to the polaritons' coupling to light during propagation on the structured surface are suppressed.
