Observation of an Excited $B^{\pm}_c$ Meson State with the ATLAS Detector
2014
A search for excited states of the B±c meson is performed using 4.9 fb-1 of 7 TeV and 19.2 fb-1 of 8 TeV pp collision data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. A new state is observed through its hadronic transition to the ground state, with the latter detected in the decay B±c→J/ψπ±. The state appears in the m(Bc±π+π-)-m(Bc±)-2m(π±) mass difference distribution with a significance of 5.2 standard deviations. The mass of the observed state is 6842±4±5 MeV, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. The mass and decay of this state are consistent with expectations for the second S-wave state of the B±c meson, B±c(2S).
Enable concurrent transmissions with beamforming for broadband wireless access in CSMA/CA-based WLANs
2014
In CSMA/CA based wireless local networks, two stations are not allowed to transmit at the same time due to interference generated to each other, resulting in degraded throughput. Concurrent transmission, which enables simultaneous transmission of two or more stations under certain conditions, is able to overcome this problem, leading to enhanced channel utilization efficiency. Different from earlier work on this topic which focuses on omni-direction concurrent transmission, we introduce in this paper beamforming into a co-channel concurrent transmission scheme and investigate the benefits of concurrency with beamforming. The circumstances for concurrent transmission and frame scheduling are…
Origin of potassic postcollisional volcanic rocks in young, shallow, blueschist-rich lithosphere
2020
Unusually high Th/La in K-rich orogenic rocks may indicate shallow blueschist-rich sources in accretionary settings.
Multi-channel search for squarks and gluinos in root s=7 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector at the LHC
2013
A search for supersymmetric particles in final states with zero, one, and two leptons, with and without jets identified as originating from b-quarks, in 4.7 fb[superscript −1] of √s = 7 TeV pp collisions produced by the Large Hadron Collider and recorded by the ATLAS detector is presented. The search uses a set of variables carrying information on the event kinematics transverse and parallel to the beam line that are sensitive to several topologies expected in supersymmetry. Mutually exclusive final states are defined, allowing a combination of all channels to increase the search sensitivity. No deviation from the Standard Model expectation is observed. Upper limits at 95 % confidence level…
Spectral function for overoccupied gluodynamics from real-time lattice simulations
2018
We study the spectral properties of a highly occupied non-Abelian non-equilibrium plasma appearing ubiquitously in weak coupling descriptions of QCD matter. The spectral function of this far-from-equilibrium plasma is measured by employing linear response theory in classical-statistical real-time lattice Yang-Mills simulations. We establish the existence of transversely and longitudinally polarized quasiparticles and obtain their dispersion relations, effective mass, plasmon frequency, damping rate and further structures in the spectral and statistical functions. Our new method can be interpreted as a non-perturbative generalization of hard thermal loop (HTL) effective theory. We see indica…

Measurement and interpretation of the $W$-pair cross-section in $e^+e^-$ interactions at 161 GeV
1997
In 1996 LEP ran at a centre-of-mass energy of 161~GeV, just above the threshold of W-pair production. DELPHI accumulated data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $9.93 {\mathrm{~pb^{-1}}}$, and observed 29 events that are considered as candidates for W-pair production. From these, a cross-section for the doubly resonant $e^+e^-\to\mathrm{WW}$ process of $3.67~^{+0.97}_{-0.85} \pm 0.19{\mathrm{~pb}}$ has been measured. Within the Standard Model, this cross-section corresponds to a mass of the W-boson of ${\mathrm{80.40~\pm~0.44~(stat.)~\pm~0.09~(syst.) ~\pm 0.03~(LEP)~GeV}}/c^2$. Alternatively, if $m_{\mathrm{W}}$ is held fixed at its current value determined by other experiments, t…
Search for neutral heavy leptons produced in Z decays
1997
Weak isosinglet Neutral Heavy Leptons ($\nu_m$) have been searched for using data collected by the DELPHI detector corresponding to $3.3\times 10^{6}$ hadronic~Z$^{0}$ decays at LEP1. Four separate searches have been performed, for short-lived $\nu_m$ production giving monojet or acollinear jet topologies, and for long-lived $\nu_m$ giving detectable secondary vertices or calorimeter clusters. No indication of the existence of these particles has been found, leading to an upper limit for the branching ratio $BR($Z$^0\rightarrow \nu_m \overline{\nu})$ of about $1.3\times10^{-6}$ at 95\% confidence level for $\nu_m$ masses between 3.5 and 50 GeV/$c^2$. Outside this range the limit weakens rap…
Charged particle multiplicity distributions in restricted rapidity intervals in Z0 hadronic decays.
1991
The multiplicity distributions of charged particles in restricted rapidity intervals in Z0 hadronic decays measured by the DELPHI detector are presented. The data reveal a shoulder structure, best visible for intervals of intermediate size, i.e. for rapidity limits around ±1.5. The whole set of distributions including the shoulder structure is reproduced by the Lund Parton Shower model. The structure is found to be due to important contributions from 3-and 4-jet events with a hard gluon jet. A different model, based on the concept of independently produced groups of particles, "clans", fluctuating both in number per event and particle content per clan, has also been used to analyse the pres…
Inclusive Search for Standard Model Higgs Boson Production in the WW Decay Channel using the CDF II Detector
2010
We present a search for standard model (SM) Higgs boson production using p (p) over bar collision data at root s = 1. 96 TeV, collected with the CDF II detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4. 8 fb(-1). We search for Higgs bosons produced in all processes with a significant production rate and decaying to two W bosons. We find no evidence for SM Higgs boson production and place upper limits at the 95% confidence level on the SM production cross section (sigma(H)) for values of the Higgs boson mass (m(H)) in the range from 110 to 200 GeV. These limits are the most stringent for m(H) > 130 GeV and are 1.29 above the predicted value of sigma(H) for m(H) 165 GeV.
