Artico nero. La lunga notte dei popoli dei ghiacci

2016

The insufficiencies of legal assimilation for economic and social integration in the French colonies in the 19th century

2007

Communication at the Center of social History of the 20th century, University of Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne, Malher Center, June 22-23 2001 (The legacy of Colonization and Decolonization in Europe and the Americas); The case of the inhabitants of the French colonies in 19th century shows the importance but also the insufficiency of legal assimilation for economic and social integration. The evolution of the legal statute of colored men, free, freed and slaves, reveals the assimilationnist or segregationist intent of the different regimes. The principle of colonization (preservation of the colonies, or even colonial expansion) was widely accepted in 19th century. It was not called into questi…

Ethanol promotes survival and tumor progression of colon cancer cells

2018

In the Western Countries, colon cancer is the third tumor for aggressiveness and incidence after lung and breast/prostate cancer. Different risk factors concur to the development of colon cancer, including genetic factors, inflammation, intestinal microflora composition, as well as lifestyle. Epidemiologic studies correlating alcohol consumption and assert that the risks are 5-fold higher among drinkers compared to nondrinkers. However, the exact mechanisms correlating heavy alcohol drinking and colon cancer are not completely elucidated yet. To shed light on the biochemical mechanisms through which alcohol favors colon cancer progression, we evaluated the effect of high doses of ethanol (1…

Three New Medicagenic Acid Saponins from Polygala micranthaGuill. & Perr.

2011

Three new medicagenic acid saponins, micranthosides A–C (1–3), were isolated from the roots of Polygala micranthaGuill. & Perr., along with six known presenegenin saponins. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of extensive 1D- and 2D-NMR experiments (1H, 13C, DEPT, COSY, TOCSY, NOESY, HSQC, and HMBC) and mass spectrometry as 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosylmedicagenic acid 28-[O-β-D-galactopyranosyl-(14)-O-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(14)-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(12)-β-D-fucopyranosyl] ester (1), 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosylmedicagenic acid 28-[O-6-O-acetyl-β-D-galactopyranosyl-(14)-O-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(14)-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(12)-β-D-fucopyranosyl] ester (2), and 3-O-{O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(13)-O-[β-D-gluc…

EFFICACY OF ZOLEDRONIC ACID IN PATIENTS WITH COLORECTAL CANCER METASTATIC TO BONE

2010

Introduction. Bone metastases are an emerging clinical problem in colorectal cancer patients probably related to survival increase. There are no data in literature about the role of BPs in the treatment of bone disease from colorectal cancer. We present the final data of a large Italian multicenter retrospective analysis. Methods. 264 colorectal cancer patients with occurrence of bone metastases have been included in the study. All patients were dead due to cancer at the moment of the study inclusion. Patients characteristics, Skeletal Related Events (SRE) data and median survival after bone metastases appearance have been collected in a master data base and statistically analyzed. The prim…

Damage identification by Lévy ant colony optimization

2010

This paper deals with the identification of incipient damage in structural elements by non-destructive test based on experimentally measured structural dynamical response. By applycation of the Hilbert transform to the recorded signal the so-called phase of the analytical signal is recovered and a proper functional is constructed in such a way that its global minimum gives a measure of the damage level, meant as stiffness reduction. Minimization is achieved by applying a modified Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) for continuous variables, inspired by the ants’ forageing behavior. The modification consists in the application of a new perturbation operator, based on alpha stable Lévy distribution…

Hematopoietic Stem Cell Mobilization for Gene Therapy: The Combination of G-CSF+Plerixafor in Patients with Beta-Thalassemia Major Provides High Yiel…

2015

Abstract Hematopoietic stem cell engineering is a promising therapy to cure b-thalassemia, in particular for patients who lack a suitable BM donor for allogeneic transplantation. Since the engrafted gene-corrected stem cells will not have any selective advantage over the unmodified ones, the effectiveness of the therapy in this setting largely depends on the infusion of high numbers of gene-modified cells and on the conditioning regimen. The quality of the infused cells is also crucial for the clinical outcome and the duration of the therapeutic effect. HSPCs mobilization, particularly when G-CSF and plerixafor are used in combination, has been proved to be the optimal approach to harvest a…
