Requirements for the growth of TH1 lymphocyte clones.

1990

Besides the signal generated in a T lymphocyte after triggering the T cell receptor (TcR), most lymphocytes need a "second signal" to become fully activated. The necessity and nature of the "second signal" differs between different types of T cells. At the level of CD4-positive T helper lymphocytes interleukin 1 (IL 1) serves as "second signal" for those of the TH2 subtype (IL4, 5, 6 producer) but not for those of the TH1 subtype (IL 2, IFN-gamma producer). This correlates with the absence of the IL 1 receptor at the surface of TH1 clones. We report herein the further purification of T cell stimulating factor (TSF), a soluble mediator involved in the proliferation of TH1 lymphocytes. A prep…

Populations of breeding birds in Byers Peninsula, Livingston Island, South Shetland Islands

2013

Data about breeding populations of birds in the Antarctica are rare and fragmented. Thus, information about the status of the breeding populations of Antarctic birds is crucial given the current scenario of climate change, which is particularly acute in Antarctica. This paper presents new information about the populations of the Antarctic tern Sterna vittata, the kelp gull Larus dominicanus, the southern giant petrel Macronectes giganteus, the Antarctic skua Catharacta antarctica lonnbergi, the chinstrap penguin Pygoscelis antarctica and the gentoo penguin Pygoscelis papua on Byers Peninsula (Livingston Island, South Shetland Islands). We used line transects counts to estimate both densitie…

APHAMAX® ATTENUATES INFLAMMATORY AND OXIDATIVE STRESS IN 2, 4-DINITROBENZENE SULFONIC ACID-INDUCED COLITIS IN RAT AMELIORATING INTESTINAL FUNCTIONALI…

2021

Accumulating evidences indicate that inflammatory and oxidative stress play an essential role in the pathogenesis and progression of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). In IBD the excessive production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitrogen metabolites contribute to tissue injury and could have also a profound impact on gut functions, including motility. We characterised the inflammatory and oxidative condition and the impact on colon motility in an experimental rat model of colitis, the 2, 4-dinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (DNBS)- induced colitis, and we evaluated if oral treatment with a nat- ural extract of Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (AFA) AphaMax®, containing concentrated quantity of AFA…

Identification of Bioactive Compounds in Polar and Nonpolar Extracts of Araujia sericifera

2017

Abstract Araujia sericifera is a native perennial, climbing laticiferous shrub from South America that is currently naturalized in many other countries. Previous data describe promising properties for A. sericifera, but no systematic study of its bioactive compounds and possible medicinal applications has been conducted to date. In the present study, aerial parts of A. sericifera (leaves, stems, and fruits) were explored by combining GC-MS and NMR spectroscopy analysis for both nonpolar (hexane) and polar (methanol) extracts. The hexanic extracts contained high amounts of pentacyclic triterpenes including two new metabolites, 3-tigloyl germanicol (18) and 3-tigloyl lupeol (19). The methanol…

Architettura mariano-morfica: L'esempio della Capilla del Pocito a Guadalupe

1994

EL ESQUEMA ARQUITECTONICO DE ALGUNAS IGLESIAS AMERICANAS ESTA INSPIRADO EN LA ICONOGRAFIA MARIANA. UN EJEMPLO DE ARQUITECTURA MARIANO-MORFICA ES LA CAPILLA DEL POCITO DE GUADALUPE, MEXICO. REALIZADA POR EL ARQUITECTO FRANCISCO GUERRERO Y TORRES ENTRE 1777 Y 1791, SIGUE MODELOS DE LA ANTIGUEDAD REELABORADOS POR SERLIO. LA RELACION DEL POCITO CON LA ICONOGRAFIA MARIANA HAY QUE VERLA TANTO POR SU UBICACION EN EL SANTUARIO MARIANO MAS IMPORTANTE DE AMERICA COMO POR SUS PROPIAS CARACTERISTICAS PLANICOVOLUMETRICAS. LA CAPILLA ES COMO UNA LETANIA LAURETANA PETRIFICADA, ANALOGA A LAS NUMEROSAS REPRESENTACIONES PICTORICAS DE LA INMACULADA CONCEPCION CIRCUNDADA POR SIMBOLOS LAURETANOS (ABC/LAG).

Olfactory attraction of the hornet Vespa velutina to honeybee colony odors and pheromones.

2014

19 pages; International audience; Since the beginning of the last century, the number of biological invasions has continuously increased worldwide. Due to their environmental and economical consequences, invasive species are now a major concern. Social wasps are particularly efficient invaders because of their distinctive biology and behavior. Among them, the yellow-legged hornet, Vespa velutina, is a keen hunter of domestic honeybees. Its recent introduction to Europe may induce important beekeeping, pollination, and biodiversity problems. Hornets use olfactory cues for the long-range detection of food sources, in this case the location of honeybee colonies, but the exact nature of these c…

Arginine vasopressin, via activation of post-junctional V1 receptors, induces contractile effects in mouse distal colon

2013

The aim of this study was to analyze whether arginine vasopressin (AVP) may be considered a modulator of intestinal motility. In this view, we evaluated, in vitro, the effects induced by exogenous administration of AVP on the contractility of mouse distal colon, the subtype(s) of receptor(s) activated and the action mechanism. Isometric recordings were performed on longitudinal and circular muscle strips of mouse distal colon. AVP (0.001 nM-100 nM) caused concentration-dependent contractile effects only on the longitudinal muscle, antagonized by the V1 receptor antagonist, V-1880. AVP-induced effect was not modified by tetrodotoxin, atropine and indomethacin. Contractile response to AVP was…
