Settore L-ANT/02 - Storia GrecaThe history of Greek Sicily is marked at its key moments by the persistent image of Dinomenid Gelon. This work analyses the paradigmatic value taken on by his figure in the civic memory of the people of Syracuse and in historiographic production. It also reconstructs the political dynamics which pushed the principal tyrants of Syracuse (from Dionysius I to Hiero II) to establish comparisons with Gelon. His exemplum was used to legitimate political actions and commitment against the Carthaginianparticular attention was also given to the Library of History of Diodorus Siculus and the role that the figure of Dinomenid assumes in itregarding these aspects the work of this author seems to have sometimes the signs of a personal interpretation of history: one that cannot always be explained in relation to the use of the two principal sources for Western history Timaeus and Philistos.

Phenomenal Change And Adolescents’ Psychological Disinterest In Commitments: A Concern For The Family Traditions

2015

The phenomenal changes such as biological, physical, social, technological and global changes, vitally affect the psychological uncertainty and pre-occupation in the minds of the adolescents. (Leckman et al., 2002, p.324). A lethargic attitude, avoidance of responsibility creeps into their system during this period, leading them to more socialising and less psychological commitments. (Jakubowski & Dembo, 2004). Researches show that Adolescents who were isolating themselves from family events and desiring only social events outside family tend to develop ‘low levels of commitment and self-regulatory resources, and they perceived their parents as being low in trust, openness, and supervision.…

A Model of Goal Dynamics in Organizations: a case study

2009

The purpose of the present work is to build a suitable system dynamics model for goal dynamics in organizations, as proposed by Barlas & Yasarcan (2008). The proposed model does not bear any ambition of being exhaustive: the main objective of this paper is to propose a model of goal dynamics in which Goal Setting, Management by Objectives and Training are viewed as human resource practices able to enhance workers’ goal commitment, and therefore, improve organizational performance. In the first part of this paper, an analysis of the Goal Setting Theory and the role of goal setting practices, in bettering worker’s performance, are stressed. In the second part, a case-study, the causal loop an…

Luigi Cremona’s Years in Bologna: From Research to Social Commitment

2011

Luigi Cremona (1830–1903), unanimously considered to be the man who laid the foundations of the prestigious Italian school of Algebraic Geometry, was active at the University of Bologna from October 1860, when assigned by the Minister Terenzio Mamiani (1799–1885) to cover the Chair of Higher Geometry, until September 1867 when Francesco Brioschi (1824–1897) called him to the Politecnico di Milano. The “Bolognese years” were Cremona’s richest and most significant in terms of scientific production, and, at the same time, were the years when he puts the basis for its most important interventions in the social and political life of the “newborn” kingdom of Italy. In this article we present thes…

Relationships Between Ethnic Identity, Ethnic Attitudes, and Acculturative Stress in Tunisian Individuals in Early and Middle Adolescence

2016

Framed from an integrative approach, the current article examined the associations between ethnic identity exploration (EIE), ethnic identity commitment (EIC), and acculturative stress by investigating the mediating role of ethnic attitudes (i.e., in-group favoritism and out-group derogation) in these relationships. Additionally, the moderating role of age was analyzed. A multiple-group path analysis was performed on data collected from 256 Tunisians in early and 248 in middle adolescence living in Italy, which is an interesting and understudied immigrant group characterized by similarities and differences with the host population. In younger adolescents, EIE and EIC were indirectly and po…

High commitment HR practices, the employment relationship and job performance: A test of a mediation model

2016

Abstract Purpose This study outlines and tests a high commitment model of human resource (HR) practices and its association with outcomes through a path including employee perceptions and attitudes, thereby seeking a new way of opening the so-called ‘black box’ between human resource management (HRM) and performance. Methodology Data were collected through a questionnaire survey with responses from 835 Spanish workers from three sectors (services, education and food manufacture). In order to test hypotheses, we conducted a path analysis. Findings High commitment HR practices were related to employee performance through the mediating effect of perceived organizational support, a fulfilled ps…

The double-edge sword effect of interorganizational trust on involvement in interorganizational networks: The mediator role of affective commitment

2020

Abstract Some organizations collaborate with other partner organizations to reach common goals, establishing interorganizational networks. The governance of the network is often enacted by an interorganizational governing team composed of the directors or top managers of the partner firms. This team plans, manages, and supervises the advancement of the network’s common goals. The success of the network depends, to a large extent, on the involvement of the members of the governing team. In this study, we tested a multilevel model of the antecedents of the involvement of governing team members in the management activities of interorganizational networks. We examined whether the relationship b…

Enhancing organisational commitment through task significance: the moderating role of openness to experience

2020

International audience; Researchers have extensively explored the factors influencing employees’ organisational commitment. However, few studies make an explicit distinction between different commitment types when exploring its determinants, and the scholarly attention to individual differences is also limited. In this paper, we confirm that developing managerial interventions to enhance task significance can be useful to promote organisational commitment, but this relationship is contingent on the commitment type and the employees’ openness to experience. We focus on two forms of organisational commitment: affective and continuance commitment. Our study shows that task significance is a be…

How can perceived consistency in marketing communications influence customer-brand relationship outcomes?

2020

Abstract This paper examines the impact of perceived consistency in marketing communications on customer–brand relationship outcomes. The perception of consistent message and image through different marketing communication tools is one of the basic principles of the integrated marketing communications (IMC) approach. Although literature suggests that IMC might have an influence on customer–brand relationship outcomes, empirical evidence that supports this assumption is still weak and inconclusive. Three main brand relationship outcomes are established for the purpose of the study, i.e. trust, commitment, and loyalty. The relationships between perceived communication consistency and brand ou…
