Spatiotemporal and gender‐specific parasitism in two species of gobiid fish

Abstract Parasitism is considered a major selective force in natural host populations. Infections can decrease host condition and vigour, and potentially influence, for example, host population dynamics and behavior such as mate choice. We studied parasite infections of two common marine fish species, the sand goby (Pomatoschistus minutus) and the common goby (Pomatoschistus microps), in the brackish water Northern Baltic Sea. We were particularly interested in the occurrence of parasite taxa located in central sensory organs, such as eyes, potentially affecting fish behavior and mate choice. The impact of consumer local engagement on local store patronage and customer satisfaction

This paper examines the drivers of local grocery retail patronage. Drawing on institutional and social network theory literature, we develop a framework to investigate how consumers’ personal values and engagement with local communities affect their satisfaction and local store patronage. We test our model with survey data on 1504 Finnish consumers. Our results show that the relationship between customer local engagement and local retail patronage is indirect rather than direct, and it is mediated by the vitality of local services, social interaction, and consumer satisfaction.

Microgastrinae is one of the largest subfamilies of the Braconidae with about 2,000 described species worldwide. These wasps are of enormous ecological interest due to their role in controlling the caterpillar populations. This study analyses diversity and community structure within the Microgastrinae in the Artikutza Forest, located in the Peñas de Aia Natural Park, western Pyrenees, Spain. Basque pilota is a traditional sport played mainly by men. A project emerged in 2005 to promote female participation: Emakumea Pilotari (Woman pelota player). In this article we present the main points that emerged from an ethnographic study of the social relationships that playing Basque pilota can provide. The study was carried out in 2011-2012 season with a purposive sample of 28 adult women Basque pilota players (pilotaris) (between 22 and 60 years old). 26 participants were pilotaris in recreational groups and the other two were their trainers. Ferdinand Tónnies zdefiniował socjologiczne rozumienie wspólnoty i stowarzyszenia. To dwie formy współżycia i współistnienia ludzi w przestrzeni społecznej. Współtworzą one przestrzeń miast, chociaż w starożytności dominowały wspólnoty, a dzisiaj bardziej stowarzyszenia. Wspólnoty to wewnętrzna homogeniczność mieszkańców pod względem wartości, norm czy stylu życia. Podstawą wspólnoty była i jest rodzina. Tymczasem stowarzyszenia tworzą się, kiedy ludzie są zróżnicowani, a tym, co ich łączy jest wyłącznie jakiś bardziej lub mniej długotrwały wspólny cel.
