HINTS: A novel approach for realistic simulations of vehicular communications

2012

One of the main challenges in the Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs) research domain is the simulation of vehicular communications using realistic mobility models. Several efforts have been put lately in this purpose; yet, the proposed models are either inappropriate, or carry significant disadvantages. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for realistic simulations in vehicular networks, inspired from the hierarchical video and image compression technique. We developed HINTS (Hybrid Integration of Network and Traffic Simulators), the correspondent platform, engendered from the integration of SUMO, a traffic simulator and NS-3, a network simulator after adding some supplemental modules…

CIPRNG: A VLSI Family of Chaotic Iterations Post-Processings for $\mathbb {F}_{2}$ -Linear Pseudorandom Number Generation Based on Zynq MPSoC

2018

Hardware pseudorandom number generators are continuously improved to satisfy both physical and ubiquitous computing security system challenges. The main contribution of this paper is to propose two post-processing modules in hardware, to improve the randomness of linear PRNGs while succeeding in passing the TestU01 statistical battery of tests. They are based on chaotic iterations and are denoted by CIPRNG-MC and CIPRNG-XOR. They have various interesting properties, encompassing the ability to improve the statistical profile of the generators on which they iterate. Such post-processing have been implemented on FPGA and ASIC without inferring any blocs (RAM or DSP). A comparison in terms of …

Hierarchical Parallelization of an H.264/AVC Video Encoder

2006

Last generation video encoding standards increase computing demands in order to reach the limits on compression efficiency. This is particularly the case of H.264/AVC specification that is gaining interest in industry. We are interested in applying parallel processing to H.264 encoders in order to fulfill the computation requirements imposed by stressing applications like video on demand, videoconference, live broadcast, etc. Given a delivered video quality and bit rate, the main complexity parameters are image resolution, frame rate and latency. These parameters can still be pushed forward in such a way that special purpose hardware solutions are not available. Parallel processing based on…

Security, QoS and self-management within an end-to-end Cloud Computing environment

2015

Today, Cloud Networking is one of the recent research areas within the Cloud Computing research communities. The main challenges of Cloud Networking concern Quality of Service (QoS) and security guarantee as well as its management in conformance with a corresponding Service Level Agreement (SLA). In this thesis, we propose a framework for resource allocation according to an end-to-end SLA established between a Cloud Service User (CSU) and several Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) within a Cloud Networking environment (Inter-Cloud Broker and Federation architectures). We focus on NaaS and IaaS Cloud services. Then, we propose the self-establishing of several kinds of SLAs and the self-managemen…

An Embedded Real-Time Lane-Keeper for Automatic Vehicle Driving

2008

Automatic vehicle driving involves several issues, such as the capability to follow the road and keep the right lane, to maintain the distance between vehicles, to regulate vehiclepsilas speed, to find the shortest route to a destination. In this paper a real-time automatic lane-keeper is proposed. The main features of the system are the lane markers location process as well as the computation of the vehiclepsilas steering lock. The above techniques require high elaboration speed to execute, check and complete an operation before a prearranged time. Clearly if system processing exceeds the deadline, the whole operation became meaningless or, in the meantime, the vehicle can reach a critical…

Visual dynamic environment for distributed systems

2002

Algorithms, based on information fusion, are often embodied in visual perception systems. Distributed architectures have been recently proposed to perform integrated computation. The complexity of distributed systems regards both their design, and the software environment to develop applications. Visual and iconic programming style intends to provide expressive tools to implement, to debug, and to execute programs in distributed environment. Multi-layers graphs languages seem suitable to handle such complexity. This paper describes the design of a visual dynamic environment (VDE), which is based on a graph-grammar. A new class of dynamic visual interfaces is also introduced, and its propert…

Dynamic Packet Bundling for VoIP Transmission Over Rel'7 HSUPA with 10ms TTI Length

2007

In this paper, the system level optimization of the voice over IP transmission in the HSUPA system, configured with a 10 ms TTI length, is analyzed. The study considers the release 7 improvements to HSUPA, in terms of the DPCCH gating concept. A dynamic activated MAC layer bundling of two VoIP packets in a single frame is proposed and compared against the single packet per frame transmission by means of quasi-static system level simulations.

VoIP end-to-end performance in HSPA with packet age aided HSDPA scheduling

2008

In this paper, we present an enhanced VoIP scheduling for the high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) in UMTS, which takes the age of the VoIP packet into account. The downlink capacity can be significantly improved by this way, especially for shorter uplink transmission delay. In order to quantify the achievable performance improvement, we present results obtained from extensive system-level uplink and downlink simulations. Inter alia, it is shown that using the proposed scheme can lead to an increase in the downlink cell capacity of up to 16%. By applying the proposed method, the downlink performance can be improved considerably while the uplink performance remains the same, which ensur…

Optimal configuration for size-based burst assembly algorithms at the edge node for video traffic transmissions over OBS networks

2008

Optical burst switching (OBS) has been proposed to be a technology for implementing the next generation optical Internet. In this architecture, burst assembly algorithms have an important influence in the pattern traffic that characteristic this sort of optical networks. On the other hand, traffic coming from new applications (such as video on demand, Voice over IP, online gaming or Grid computing) that have real time and bandwidth constraints, has been experimented a rapid increment. Consequently, we consider important to evaluate the performance of traffic from real time applications over OBS networks. In this paper, we evaluate the effects of implementing a size-based burst assembly sche…
