The Performance of Belle II High Level Trigger in the First Physics Run

2020

The Belle II experiment is a new generation B-factory experiment at KEK in Japan aiming at the search for New Physics in a huge sample of B-meson decays. The commissioning of the accelerator and the detector for the first physics run has started from March this year. The Belle II High Level Trigger (HLT) is fully working in the beam run. The HLT is now operated with 1600 cores clusterized in 5 units, which is 1/4 of the full configuration. The software trigger is performed using the same offline reconstruction code, and events are classified into a set of physics categories. Only the events in the categories of interest are finally sent out to the storage. Live data quality monitoring is also…

A parallel and sensitive software tool for methylation analysis on multicore platforms.

2015

Abstract Motivation: DNA methylation analysis suffers from very long processing time, as the advent of Next-Generation Sequencers has shifted the bottleneck of genomic studies from the sequencers that obtain the DNA samples to the software that performs the analysis of these samples. The existing software for methylation analysis does not seem to scale efficiently neither with the size of the dataset nor with the length of the reads to be analyzed. As it is expected that the sequencers will provide longer and longer reads in the near future, efficient and scalable methylation software should be developed. Results: We present a new software tool, called HPG-Methyl, which efficiently maps bis…

Virtual Resource Allocation for Wireless Virtualized Heterogeneous Network with Hybrid Energy Supply

2022

In this work, two novel virtual user association and resource allocation algorithms are introduced for a wireless virtualized heterogeneous network with hybrid energy supply. In the considered system, macro base stations (MBSs) are supplied by the grid power and small base stations (SBSs) have the energy harvesting capability in addition to the grid power supplement. Multiple infrastructure providers (InPs) own the physical resources, i.e., BSs and radio resources. The Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) are able to recent these resources from the InPs and operate the virtualized resources for providing services to different users. In particular, aiming to maximize the overall utility …

Regulating blockchain for sustainability? The critical relationship between digital innovation, regulation, and electricity governance

2021

Abstract Blockchain technology has found several innovative applications in the electricity industry. However, its potential has still to be discovered. This is partly due to the role that regulation plays in electricity markets. To be introduced, experimented with, and eventually adopted on a commercial scale, blockchain-supported innovations need to fit the existing regulatory framework or the rules to be reshaped or updated. We focus on energy regulators' possible responses to the blockchain-enhanced market operations (both from the incumbents and potential newcomers), suggesting a monitoring mechanism that can support innovation.

Characterisation of the Degree of Musical Non-Markovianity

2022

As an aid for musical analysis, in computational musicology mathematical andinformatics tools have been developed to characterise quantitatively some aspectsof musical compositions. A musical composition can be attributed by ear a certainamount of memory. These results are associated with repetitions and similarities ofthe patterns in musical scores. To higher variations, a lower amount of memory isperceived. However, the musical memory of a score has never been quantitativelydefined. Here we aim to give such a measure following an approach similar tothat used in physics to quantify the memory (non-Markovianity) of open quantumsystems. We apply this measure to some existing musical composit…

SHARP: Environment and Person Independent Activity Recognition with Commodity IEEE 802.11 Access Points

2022

In this article we present SHARP, an original approach for obtaining human activity recognition (HAR) through the use of commercial IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi) devices. SHARP grants the possibility to discern the activities of different persons, across different time-spans and environments. To achieve this, we devise a new technique to clean and process the channel frequency response (CFR) phase of the Wi-Fi channel, obtaining an estimate of the Doppler shift at a radio monitor device. The Doppler shift reveals the presence of moving scatterers in the environment, while not being affected by (environment-specific) static objects. SHARP is trained on data collected as a person performs seven differe…

First data with the ATLAS Level-1 Calorimeter Trigger

2008

The ATLAS Level-1 Calorimeter Trigger is one of the main elements of the first stage of event selection for the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. The input stage consists of a mixed analogue/digital component taking trigger sums from the ATLAS calorimeters. The trigger logic is performed in a digital, pipelined system with several stages of processing, largely based on FPGAs, which perform programmable algorithms in parallel with a fixed latency to process about 300 Gbyte/s of input data. The real-time output consists of counts of different types of physics objects, and energy sums. The final system consists of over 300 custom-built VME modules, of several different types. The installation at AT…

An efficient cluster-based outdoor user positioning using LTE and WLAN signal strengths

2015

In this paper we propose a novel cluster-based RF fingerprinting method for outdoor user-equipment (UE) positioning using both LTE and WLAN signals. It uses a simple cost effective agglomerative hierarchical clustering with Davies-Bouldin criterion to select the optimal cluster number. The positioning method does not require training signature formation prior to UE position estimation phase. It is capable of reducing the search space for clustering operation by using LTE cell-ID searching criteria. This enables the method to estimate UE positioning in short time with less computational expense. To validate the cluster-based positioning real-time field measurements were collected using readi…

A Survey on Proxy Mobile IPv6 Handover

2016

[EN] As wireless technologies have been improving in recent years, a mobility management mechanism is required to provide seamless and ubiquitous mobility for end users who are roaming among points of attachment in wireless networks. Thus, Mobile IPv6 was developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to support the mobility service. However, Mobile IPv6 is unable to fulfill the requirements of real-time applications, such as video streaming service and voice over IP service, due to its high handover (HO) latency. To address this problem, Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) has been introduced by the IETF. In PMIPv6, which is a network-based approach, the serving network controls mobility m…
