CONNESSIONI ECOLOGICO-FUNZIONALI NEGLI STRUMENTI DI PIANIFICAZIONE: IL CASO DI VITORIA-GASTEIZ IN SPAGNA

2019

A software for the evaluation of winding factor harmonic distribution in high efficiency electrical motors and generators

2013

In this paper a software developed for the determination of winding connections, the calculation of winding factors and the evaluation of their harmonic distribution of three and two phase windings is presented by using as input data simply the number of slots, pole pairs and phases. The software is implemented as a function in MATLAB environment. By means of some examples, covering the most relevant winding types, the capabilities of this software will be shown. Particularly, integer and fractional single and double layer winding can be treated. Some examples are presented and briefly discussed. The connections, the winding factor harmonic distribution, the electro-motive force (e.m.f) THD…

PV Reconfiguration Systems: a Technical and Economic Study

2017

Dynamical electrical array reconfiguration strategies for grid-connected PV systems have been proposed as solution to improve energy production due to the mismatch effect of PV plants during partial shading conditions. Strategies are based on the use of dynamic connections between PV panels given by the employment of switches that allow for each panel the series, parallel or exclusion connections, physically changing the electrical connections between the related PV modules, consequentially modifying the layout of the plant. Usually the cost of the dynamic matrix is not taken into account. This novel work evaluates the economic advantages obtained by the use of reconfiguration strategies in…

Vacuum induced berry phase: Theory and experimental proposal

2003

We investigate quantum effects in geometric phases arising when a two-level system is interacting with a quantized electromagnetic field. When the system is adiabatically driven along a closed loop in the parameter space, signatures of the field quantization are observable in the geometric phase. We propose a feasible experiment to measure these effects in cavity QED and also analyse the semi-classical limit, recovering the usual Berry phase results.

Berry's phase in Cavity QED: proposal for observing an effect of field quantization

2002

Geometric phases are well known in classical electromagnetism and quantum mechanics since the early works of Pantcharatnam and Berry. Their origin relies on the geometric nature of state spaces and has been studied in many different systems such as spins, polarized light and atomic physics. Recent works have explored their application in interferometry and quantum computation. Earlier works suggest how to observe these phases in single quantum systems adiabatically driven by external classical devices or sources, where, by classical, we mean any system whose state does not change considerably during the interaction time: an intense magnetic field interacting with a spin 1/2, or a birefringe…

GPCALMA, a mammographic CAD in a GRID connection

2003

Purpose of this work is the development of an automatic system which could be useful for radiologists in the investigation of breast cancer. A breast neoplasia is often marked by the presence of microcalcifications and massive lesions in the mammogram: hence the need for tools able to recognize such lesions at an early stage. GPCALMA (Grid Platform Computer Assisted Library for MAmmography), a collaboration among italian physicists and radiologists, has built a large distributed database of digitized mammographic images (at this moment about 5500 images corresponding to 1650 patients). This collaboration has developed a CAD (Computer Aided Detection) system which, installed in an integrated…

A Compensation Based Method to Model PV Nodes in Backward/Forward Distribution Network Analysis

2007

PurposeThis paper proposes to identify a new model of the fixed voltage nodes (PV nodes) for medium voltage distribution systems analysis. The model is used within backward/forward (b/f) analysis method applied to solve radial and weakly meshed systems.Design/methodology/approachThe model is based on the compensation currents method for multi‐port systems which has been extensively used, within b/f analysis methods, to take into account the presence of meshes and PV nodes.FindingsTest results prove the approach to be more efficient and precise than previous methodologies and put into evidence the good performance of the proposed model in terms of speed and convergence properties.Research li…

Decoupled control scheme of the grid-connected split-source inverter for renewable energy sources

2016

Grid-connected power conversion systems for renewable energy sources must fulfill several requirements, including high efficiency, reduced cost and complexity, and, quite often, also boost capabilities from the dc sources to the ac power grid. For such applications, single-stage power converters with boost capabilities offer some potential advantages. Among several proposed options, split-source inverter (SSI) has been recently investigated. This paper proposes a decoupled control scheme for the SSIs, where the common mode term of the ac modulation signals is used to control the dc input current. Thus, the dc input current and ac output current can be controlled independently. The proposed …

Photovoltaic plant array reconfiguration: Design of a new device

2014

An efficient strategy to improve unequally irradiated PV plants performances is based on the reconfiguration of the connections between the modules. In this paper, an algorithm, for this purpose conceived, is presented. Moreover, the design, realization and finally also the set up of a new reconfiguration system device is fully shown and discussed. The algorithm conceived simulates several possible series-parallel connections under varying irradiation conditions, and determines the optimal modules connection in order to get the maximum output power. In this way, the reconfiguration system may set up the reconfiguration strategy. The reconfiguration system prototype set up, basically consist…

Performance comparison of tubular linear induction motors with different primary winding connections

2014

This paper presents an experimental characterization and comparison of the performances achieved by a tubular linear induction motor (TLIM) prototype with different typologies of primary winding connections. In particular, three configurations are described: full-pitch star, 5/6 shortened pitch star and 5/6 shortened pitch double star. For this purpose, an experimental test bench at the SDESLAB laboratory (University of Palermo) has been set-up and the results obtained from the tests have allowed to identify which type of winding configuration can be chosen in dependence of the type of application intended for the motor. In addition, this experimental study is suitable for TLIM winding desi…
