Nutrient disturbance through manganese accumulation in Douglas fir

Abstract The disturbance of the nutrient balance induced by a surplus of manganese is discussed as the main cause of the disease striking Douglas fir. In this context a close examination of the iron balance is of great interest. Despite high total iron content, damaged Douglas fir show symptoms similar to that of an iron deficiency chlorosis in which the redox state of iron seems to be affected (physiological iron-deficiency). Trawling disturbance effects on the trophic ecology of two co-generic Astropectinid species

Physical disturbance by trawling can have both negative and positive effects on populations of scavenging benthic organisms. In the present study the impact of fishing activity on feeding behaviour of the two Astropectinids, Astropecten bispinosus and A. irregularis , was assessed based on stomach contents analysis. The study was carried out along trawled seabed highlighting the positive response of the two facultative scavengers to carrion generated by trawl disturbance. Effect of intracellular P content on phosphate removal in Scenedesmus sp. Experimental study and kinetic expression

The present work determines the effect of phosphorus content on phosphate uptake rate in a mixed culture of Chlorophyceae in which the genus Scenedesmus dominates. Phosphate uptake rate was determined in eighteen laboratory batch experiments, with samples taken from a progressively more P-starved culture in which a minimum P content of 0.11% (w/w) was achieved. The results obtained showed that the higher the internal biomass P content, the lower the phosphate removal rate. The highest specific phosphate removal rate was 6.5 mgPO4 P gTSS -1 h -1 . Vapour condensation and moisture accumulation in porous building wall

Simultaneous one-dimensional heat and vapour transfer with condensation in a porous wall is analytically investigated. Spatially steady-state distribution of accumulated moisture, less than the critical content, is described. Closed-form analytical expressions for the temperature, condensation rate and moisture content are obtained. The presented model requires material properties which are relatively simple and easy to determine. The results of the paper are illustrated with an example of multilayer building wall under climatic conditions.

A numerical model of the cloud-topped planetary boundary-layer: cloud processing of aerosol particles in marine stratus

Abstract In a numerical study with the one-dimensional chemical microphysical stratus model CHEMISTRA the effect of stratiform clouds on aerosol particles is investigated. The microphysical part of CHEMISTRA consists of a detailed description of cloud microphysical processes by means of a joint two-dimensional particle distribution for aerosols and cloud droplets. The aim of this study was to enable a quantitative comparison of initial soil erosion processes in European vineyards using the same methodology and equipment. The study was conducted in four viticultural areas with different characteristics (Valencia and Málaga in Spain, Ruwer-Mosel valley and Saar-Mosel valley in Germany). An oxygen monitoring and control system inside a malaxation machine to improve extra virgin olive oil quality

In recent years, oxygen content regulation during malaxation has been noted as a process parameter. The aim of this study was to identify the optimal time during the malaxation process of the olives of the Sicilian cultivar Nocellara del Belice when the presence of oxygen in the machine headspace activates the enzyme complex in favour of the volatile compounds, without compromising the phenolic composition. Mixotrophy in Pyroleae (Ericaceae) from Estonian boreal forests does not vary with light or tissue age

Fungal carbon is more enriched in 13C than photosynthates, allowing estimation of the proportion of carbon acquired heterotrophically from fungi in plant biomass. This study aims to analyze the ethanol content in fermented palm juice.This research includes the preparation of raw materials, fermentation, distillation and distillation products analyzed by gas chromatography method. Fermentation is carried out for 2, 5, 7 days, the highest level of bioethanol produced is then selected for distillation. Levels the highest fermentation process is on the 5th day with a level of 18%. Got results the final distillation is 117 mL with a level of 94% of the initial volume of 4.2 L fermentation based on measurements using an alcoholmeter while the analysis by gas chromatography yielded 93.9% levels.
