Proper 1-ball contractive retractions in Banach spaces of measurable functions

2005

In this paper we consider the Wosko problem of evaluating, in an infinite-dimensional Banach space X, the infimum of all k > 1 for which there exists a k-ball contractive retraction of the unit ball onto its boundary. We prove that in some classical Banach spaces the best possible value 1 is attained. Moreover we give estimates of the lower H-measure of noncompactness of the retractions we construct. 1. Introduction Let X be an infinite-dimensional Banach space with unit closed ball B(X) and unit sphere S(X). It is well known that, in this setting, there is a retraction of B(X) onto S(X), that is, a continuous mapping R : B(X) ! S(X) with Rx = x for all x 2 S(X). In (4) Benyamini and Sternf…

Localization and separation of solutions for Fredholm integral equations

2020

[EN] In this paper, we establish a qualitative study of nonlinear Fredholm integral equations, where we will carry out a study on the localization and separation of solutions. Moreover, we consider an efficient algorithm to approximate a solution. To do this, we study the semilocal convergence of an efficient third order iterative scheme for solving nonlinear Fredholm integral equations under mild conditions. The novelty of our work lies in the fact that this study involves first order Frechet derivative and mild conditions. A numerical example involving nonlinear Fredholm integral equations, is solved to show the domains of existence and uniqueness of solutions. The applicability of the it…

Attractors of stochastic lattice dynamical systems with a multiplicative noise and non-Lipschitz nonlinearities

2012

AbstractIn this paper we study the asymptotic behavior of solutions of a first-order stochastic lattice dynamical system with a multiplicative noise. We do not assume any Lipschitz condition on the nonlinear term, just a continuity assumption together with growth and dissipative conditions, so that uniqueness of the Cauchy problem fails to be true.Using the theory of multi-valued random dynamical systems we prove the existence of a random compact global attractor.

In search of family business continuity: the case of transgenerational family entrepreneurship

2011

This qualitative case study analyses continuity of transgenerational entrepreneurship in the family business. Transgenerational entrepreneurship is based on multigenerational, and in this particular firm, on the founder and next generation, business activities in the same family business. Methodologically, the data was collected by interviewing members of two generations of Imagon Ltd.; the founder, and his sons. Imagon Ltd. shows signs of transgenerational continuity. It did not start off that way in the founder’s mind; his desire was just to work for himself and fulfil his own visions. It was only much later that the prospect of defining his company as a family business entered the pictur…

Applicational Aspects of a New Diagnostic Methodology for Fault Location in MV Networks: Problems, Solutions and Improvements

2005

The electrical energy market liberalization has encouraged utilities to make new investments at distribution level so as to attain higher quality levels. Service continuity is one of the aspects of greater importance in the definition of the quality of the electrical energy, for this reason, the research in the field of faults diagnostic for distribution systems is spreading ever more. The Authors have just developed a new methodology for diagnostic management of automated distribution systems. The technique is based on the use of circuital models of the electrical system resulting from the composition of quadripoles. In this paper, after a brief description of the proposed approach, the is…

COMPLEX ANALYSIS OF COMPANY BANKRUPTCY FORECASTING: THEORETICAL INSIGHT

2018

In modern conditions for dynamic and competitive businesses, more and more companies face financial problems and eventually go bankrupt. A noteworthy trend: not only new companies that have not yet managed to establish themselves in the market go bankrupt but also large companies operating for years and maintaining good traditions. Bankruptcies of companies cause many problems not only for the companies themselves but also for the state and many members of society. Thus, it is crucial to evaluate the financial state of a company and its activity results as accurately and early as possible when forecasting the possibility of a bankruptcy. The paper recommends a complex analysis methodology f…

Poincaré inequalities and Steiner symmetrization

1996

A complete geometric characterization for a general Steiner symmetric domain Ω ⊂ Rn to satisfy the Poincare inequality with exponent p > n−1 is obtained and it is shown that this range of exponents is best possible. In the case where the Steiner symmetric domain is determined by revolving the graph of a Lipschitz continuous function, it is shown that the preceding characterization works for all p > 1 and furthermore for such domains a geometric characterization for a more general Sobolev–Poincare inequality to hold is given. Although the operation of Steiner symmetrization need not always preserve a Poincare inequality, a general class of domains is given for which Poincare inequalities are…

On the relativistic heat equation in one space dimension

2012

We study the relativistic heat equation in one space dimension. We prove a local regularity result when the initial datum is locally Lipschitz in its support. We propose a numerical scheme that captures the known features of the solutions and allows for analysing further properties of their qualitative behaviour. Generalized Alomari functionals

2015

We consider a generalized form of certain integral inequalities given by Guessab, Schmeisser and Alomari. The trapezoidal, mid point, Simpson, Newton-Simpson rules are obtained as special cases. Also, inequalities for the generalized Alomari functional in terms of the $n$-th order modulus, $n=\overline{1,4}$, are given and applied to some known quadrature rules.
