Compactness in Groups of Group-Valued Mappings

2022

We introduce the concepts of extended equimeasurability and extended uniform quasiboundedness in groups of group-valued mappings endowed with a topology that generalizes the topology of convergence in measure. Quantitative characteristics modeled on these concepts allow us to estimate the Hausdorff measure of noncompactness in such a contest. Our results extend and encompass some generalizations of Fréchet–Šmulian and Ascoli–Arzelà compactness criteria found in the literature.

An optimization-based approach for solving a time-harmonic multiphysical wave problem with higher-order schemes

2013

This study considers developing numerical solution techniques for the computer simulations of time-harmonic fluid-structure interaction between acoustic and elastic waves. The focus is on the efficiency of an iterative solution method based on a controllability approach and spectral elements. We concentrate on the model, in which the acoustic waves in the fluid domain are modeled by using the velocity potential and the elastic waves in the structure domain are modeled by using displacement.Traditionally, the complex-valued time-harmonic equations are used for solving the time-harmonic problems. Instead of that, we focus on finding periodic solutions without solving the time-harmonic problem…

Problemy współczesnej genealogii medialnej

2020

Zmiana konwencji komunikacyjnej we współczesnych mediach wymaga przede wszystkim wykorzystania do jej analizy kontekstu kulturowego, który decyduje o sposobach tworzenia przekazów i sposobach odbierania treści medialnych, ujawnia mechanizm perswazji st…

Binocular vision alterations after refractive and cataract surgery: a review.

2018

To review binocular and accommodative disorders documented after corneal or intraocular refractive surgery, in normal healthy prepresbyopic patients. A bibliographic revision was performed; it included works published before 1st July 2017 where accommodation and/or binocularity was assessed following any type of refractive surgical procedure. The search in Pubmed yielded 1273 papers, 95 of which fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Few publications reporting binocular vision and/or accommodative changes after refractive surgery in normal subjects were found. The reduction in fusional vergence is the most frequently reported alteration. Anisometropia is an important risk factor for postoperativ…

Late Quaternary Variations in the South American Monsoon System as Inferred by Speleothems – New Perspectives Using the SISAL Database

2018

Here we present an overview of speleothem δ18O records from South America, most of which are available in the Speleothem Isotopes Synthesis and Analysis (SISAL_v1) database. South American tropical and subtropical speleothem δ18O time series are primarily interpreted to reflect changes in precipitation amount, the amount effect, and consequently history of convection intensity variability of convergence zones such as the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and the South America Monsoon System (SAMS). We investigate past hydroclimate scenarios in South America related to the South American Monsoon System in three different time periods: Late Pleistocene, Holocene, and the last two millenni…

Millennial-scale climate variability during the last 12.5 ka recorded in a Caribbean speleothem

2013

Abstract We present a speleothem stable oxygen isotope record for the last 12.5 ka based on two stalagmites from western Cuba. The δ18O signal is interpreted to represent past precipitation variability. Both stalagmites show a pronounced transition from higher δ18O values (indicating drier conditions) to more negative δ18O values (suggesting wetter conditions) between 10 and 6 ka. This transition is also visible in a planktonic δ18O record off Haiti. On orbital timescales, the δ18O value of Caribbean precipitation, thus, strongly resembles the oxygen isotope composition of Caribbean surface water. On millenial timescales, the speleothem δ18O record shows a high correlation to a North Atlant…

Growth and convergence in Africa: The impact of spatial effects

2010

The aim of this paper is to study the impact of spatial effects on convergence process in Africa over the period 1975-2000. Taking into account these effects through the methodology of Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis (ESDA) and spatial econometrics, we focus on the geographical dimension of economic convergence of African countries. This allows us to deal with spatial autocorrelation which is a consequence of econometric interdependences due to geographic spillovers. Indeed, countries economic performance hides specific geographical patterns providing information on the importance of location on economic dynamics. Our results prove the existence of convergence process in Africa through a …

ANALYSIS OF BUSINESS CYCLES CONVERGENCE IN A SWITCHING REGIME VIEW

2012

In this paper I analyzed the convergence between Romanian and Euro Zone`s business cycles using a Switching approach. Considering the evolution of final consumption expenditure as proxy for the business cycles, the underlying study is calibrated on the second key feature of Burns and Mitchell`s (1946) definition about business cycles, namely the cycles are divided and also treated differently for cases of expansionary and downward regimes. Therefore a cyclical convergence between Romanian and Euro Zone`s business cycles is characterized by synchronization in the occurrence of different regimes (states) and also in the time for which these regimes are standing up. For this purpose, I called …

Panorama actual de la contabilidad pública: Análisis de la situación española dentro de su entorno internacional

2003

In the last years, international governmental accounting standards have been developed, with an especial relevance in the case of IFAC pronouncements. On the other hand, important experiences for reforming public sector accounting are in progress in different countries and entities, as in the case of the OECD, NATO and European Commission. Simultaneously, a new conceptual framework has been set up, in a parallel way to business accounting. During the first half of the nineties, many accounting innovations and reforms have been introduced in Spanish governmental accounting. However, the new international developments require a deep reform of our system, in order to adapt its principles and s…

MEASURING REGIONAL CONVERGENCE - AN APPLICATION TO THE EUROPEAN UNION AND ROMANIA

2012

Attention of regional economic convergence has a great place in economics literature. The application of spatially explicit methods of data analysis to the convergence question has yielded important insights on regional economic growth. The literature on regional income inequality, although somewhat older than the convergence literature, has been slower to adopt new spatially explicit methods of data analysis. Application of recently developed methods of spatial econometrics to the question of regional convergence has yielded a more comprehensive and multidimensional view of regional economic growth. This article aims to identify the techniques and methods use for regional convergence and i…
