Lens-vault analysis and its correlation with other biometric parameters using swept-source OCT

Purpose To measure lens vault (LV) and to assess its correlation with various ocular parameters in healthy eyes, using for all measurements the same high-resolution swept-source optical coherence tomographer (SS-OCT). Methods We prospectively recruited 67 Caucasian healthy patients whose mean age was 41.9 ± 12.4 years; only their right eye was included in the study. Previously published and as vet unpublished QCD results obtained with the ALEPH detector at LEP1 are presented. The unprecedented statistics allows detailed studies of both perturbative and non-perturbative aspects of strong interactions to be carried out using hadronic Z and tau decays. The studies presented include precise determinations of the strong coupling constant. tests of its flavour independence, tests of the SU(3) gauge structure of QCD, study of coherence effects, and measurements of single-particle inclusive distributions and two-particle correlations for many identified baryons and mesons. Visually induced motion sickness and presence in videogames: The role of sound

Visually induced motion sickness (VIMS) is a well-known phenomenon in virtual environments, simulators, and videogames. We conducted an experiment to analyze the role of sound on the severity of VIMS and the feeling of presence in videogames. Thirty-two subjects first watched a pre-recorded sequence of the game “Mirrors Edge” and then played the game actively. Game-play sound was activated for half of the participants. VIMS was measured via the Simulator Sickness Questionnaire and the Fast Motion Sickness Scale, presence was captured using the Presence Questionnaire. Abstract The bridged (14]annulene 2 was reduced into its dianion and the structure of the dianion salt was proven by chemical and spectroscopic means. The 1H NMR spectroscopic properties of 2 are similar to those of the structurally related bridged [14]annulene 1 , whereas the corresponding dianions 2 2- and 1 2- are strikingly different. The geometries of 1 and 2 and their dianions were studied by means of a modified π-SCF force field approach. Abstract Methoxymethylation of altholactone ( 1 ) led to the corresponding O -methoxymethyl derivative ( 3 ) in addition to the unexpected 6,7-dihydro-7-methoxy analogue ( 4 ), and two original tetrahydrofuranic (THF) alkyl esters ( 5 , 6 ). Moreover, when we accomplished a new method for the preparation of the furano-pyrone goniofupyrone ( 7 ) through 7-hydroxylation of 1 in acid medium, a minor compound ( 8 ) with an identical skeleton to that of compounds 5 and 6 was identified. Background: We validated the new European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Head and Neck Module (EORTC QLQ-HN43). Methods: We enrolled 812 patients with head and neck cancer from 18 countries. Group 1 completed the questionnaire before therapy, and 3 and 6 months later. In group 2 (survivors), we determined test–retest reliability using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC). Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach's Alpha, the scale structure with confirmatory factor analysis, and discriminant validity with known-group comparisons. How to reach optimal estimates of confidence intervals in microscopic counting of phytoplankton?

Abstract Present practices in the microscopic counting of phytoplankton to estimate the reliability of results rely on the assumption of a random distribution of taxa in sample preparations. In contrast to that and in agreement with the literature, we show that aggregated distribution is common and can lead to over-optimistic confidence intervals, if estimated according to the shortcut procedure of Lund et al. based on the number of counted cells.
