CO-PARENTING IN HOMOSEXUAL AND HETEROSEXUAL COUPLES: SELF-EFFICACY AND EDUCATIONAL MODELS

2016

Structural and relationships changes involving the parental and conjugal axes represent alterations that have challenged the traditional families’ model of a married heterosexual couples and biological children. This article shows the data collected during a fact-finding survey realized between 30 partners of same-sex couples with children and 30 partners of heterosexual couples with children recruited in Sicily. Participants were offered a protocol of instruments for the measurements of perceived conjugal and familiar self-efficacy, the parenting style, and the self-perception of the dynamics in the same-sex parenting in relationship with school institution (ad hoc questionnaire). How do individual attachment patterns of both members of couples affect their perceived infertility stress? An actor–partner interdependence analysis

2016

Abstract There exists a lack of dyadic research examining how the attachment characteristics of infertile individuals influence their experience of infertility-related distress. The actor partner interdependence model was used to test a theoretical model by examining whether both infertile wives and husbands, who display high levels of attachment avoidance and/or attachment anxiety, will experience infertility-related distress. Seven hundred and seventy individuals (385 couples) completed the experience in close relationships, the fertility problem inventory, and the state-trait anxiety inventory prior to infertility treatment. Wives' distress was predicted by their own and by their husband…

Evolución histórica de la autonomía de la voluntad en el Derecho matrimonial

2021

The autonomy of the will or power of self-regulation of relationships derived from marriage is a subject that is on the rise and that we can qualify as novel. More and more couples are opting to proceed making use of this power to self-regulate both personal and property effects derived from their union or its future breakdown. In the Spanish legal system there is no precise and complete regulation of the subject, without all these figures being equally legislated, although all are admitted without any doubt by jurisprudence. In recent years there has been an evolution of Family law, traditionally very reluctant to give space to self-regulation. Our Constitution marks a turning point by cha…

In-work benefits for married couples: an ex-ante evaluation of EITC and WTC policies in Italy

2014

This paper investigates labor supply and redistributive effects of in-work benefits for Italian married couples using a tax-benefit microsimulation model and a multi-sectoral discrete choice model of labor supply. We consider two in-work benefit schemes following the key principles of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Working Tax Credit (WTC) existing in the US and the UK, respectively. The standard design of these in-work benefits is however augmented with a new benefit premium for two-earner households in order to overcome the well-known disincentive effects that these welfare instruments may generate on secondary earners. In simulation, the proposed in-work benefits are finance…

Fundamentals of photocatalysis: The role of the photocatalysts in heterogeneous photo-assisted reactions

2021

Abstract This chapter provides some general definitions of heterogeneous photocatalysis and evaluates its performance, which is influenced by the parameters most closely related to the properties of the solid material that acts as a photocatalyst. It also discusses aspects of heterogeneous photocatalytic reactions and explains the properties that influence photoactivity. Finally, the chapter examines thermodynamic and kinetic features, including mechanistic details and parameters to define the reaction rate and correlates them to the effects of the interaction of light with the photocatalyst surface and adsorption-desorption of species involved in heterogeneous photo-assisted reactions.

Relational dynamics in same-sex couples with Intimate Partner Violence: coming out as a protective factor

2014

The aim of this article is to participate in the debate on the phenomenon of violence in intimate relationships; a path of dominance and control, often accompanied by abusive behaviour and power. In particular, we would like to refer to violence in same-sex relationships, where this important role can be detected both from the relational asymmetry of the partner and also from the threat of a possible outing. It is a widespread phenomenon, yet not sufficiently taken into account, due to the invisibility in which homosexuals live. The inability to come out, is often hampered by sexual prejudices present in many societies – a situation that creates conditions for a lack of a social support net…

Educational Styles and Consequences of Birth of Children for Binational Couples

2014

The paper examines the dynamics of bicultural couples in which one partner is autochthonous and the other is of foreign nationality. Referring to family dynamics, has taken into consideration two levels of analysis: the impact that the presence of children creates on the dynamic of couple and the educational styles adopted. According to the basic assumptions of qualitative research, 22 mixed couples living in Sicily were interviewed. To analyse the contents, which emerged from interviews, the Atlas.ti software was used. Through the narrative method we explored the meanings that partners assign to their daily lives and differences they experienced. The birth of children marks the passage fro…

Bicultural couples from Family to Community: Educational Styles and Place Identity

2014

The paper examines the dynamics of bicultural couples in which one partner is autochthonous and the other is of foreign nationality. Two levels of analysis were considered: a macro level studying the place identity in reference to the general social context and the residential neighbourhood, in particular; the second level refers to the dynamics of the couple and examines the strategies for managing differences between partners and the educational styles adopted in the presence of children. According to the basic assumptions of qualitative research, 22 mixed couples living in Sicily were interviewed. To analyse the contents which emerged from interviews the Atlas.ti software was used.
