P-Value, Confidence Intervals, and Statistical Inference: A New Dataset of Misinterpretation

2017

Statistical inference is essential for science since the twentieth century (Salsburg, 2001). Since it's introduction into science, the null hypothesis significance testing (NHST), in which the P-value serves as the index of “statistically significant,” is the most widely used statistical method in psychology (Sterling et al., 1995; Cumming et al., 2007), as well as other fields (Wasserstein and Lazar, 2016). However, surveys consistently showed that researchers in psychology may not able to interpret P-value and related statistical procedures correctly (Oakes, 1986; Haller and Krauss, 2002; Hoekstra et al., 2014; Badenes-Ribera et al., 2016). Even worse, these misinterpretations of P-value …

Sharing Drawings with Smartphones in the Classroom – Art-Based Education in Social Sciences

2020

This article identifies the factors that indicate the opportunity of reviewing the methods in teaching economics in order to overcome the traditional teaching-learning scheme that overvalues rote learning and find formulas that facilitate the development of analytical skills. On the other hand, this work points out the importance of developing creative competences. One way to do this is to introduce artistic practices in the classroom, even in non-artistic subjects. In this work an experience of education based on the arts is presented. Thanks to smartphone cameras, students can share and project drawings in the classroom immediately to facilitate group learning. The proposal is to represen…

Presentazione

2013

The energy crisis of the contemporary city: intelligence, creativity and resilience.

2012

To address the energy crisis afflicting the contemporary city, recovery plans and retraining must mobilize new forms of inte…

2021

Cultural and social aspects in post pandemic age are mainly connected with land use, mainly in high-density urban contexts. It is relevantly in historical centres where urban communities ask for spaces for cultural activities, creativity, aimed at social cohesion. The paper describes this condition in UNESCO Historical Urban Landscape Policy and demonstrates in what way it can be applied at Palermo Historical Centre.

Foucault naturalizzato: soggetto, assoggettamento, libertà

2019

Spaces of cultural contamination. Creative places of sociality, integration, inclusion

2023

The well-being of the person is closely linked to the spaces in which they live and the resources they access. The recent slogan and urban paradigm "happy city and healthy city" bring attention back to the person and investigates the role of the built environment, individual, social and cultural well-being, as indicated in the sustainable development objectives of the 2030 Agenda. However, combining the city with the health and well-being of citizens requires an overall vision. It is necessary to graft a plot that can create - through resilient planning - interconnected and engaging open spaces, open and multiform specialized areas and, at the same time, incorporate pre-existing places and …

Facilitating organisational learning through teamwork-based knowledge management: evidence from Spain

2015

[EN] In the context of organisational learning optimisation through knowledge management policies, it is essential to pay careful attention to teamwork design and dynamics. Having these ideas in mind, the aim of our paper is to empirically study whether a number of knowledge management policies related to team design and dynamics facilitate organisational learning processes across the different ontological levels (individual, group, and organisational-institutional). Hence, we propose a model linking teamwork-design based on knowledge management policies (including the sub-dimensions of team composition, team bonding, and team bridging) and organisational learning. We test this model in a s…

Collaborative Musical Creativity between Students and Adults: The Sonorous Paella

2021

While creativity is a key element of contemporary curriculum frameworks around the world, it is still insufficiently fostered in formal education settings. Participants (N = 12) were eight Year 4 secondary students, two professional musicians, an artist-in-residence, and a music teacher. Drawing on a graphic musical score, the participants worked together for 1.5 months to produce a group composition and performance. They were provided with various sound producers (instruments, everyday objects, technological devices) and were encouraged to flexibly utilize the physical space to maximize collab…
