Germanic Women in the Eyes of Law
2018
Germanic laws focused mainly on community and kinship ties, they clearly defined social divisions and organized the life of the community. The law was not to be perceived as a product of the times, it was passed on from generation to generation and conveyed the wisdom of the elder. Every crime against another person or their property, independently of whether it concerned family laws, laws of property or any other laws, had to be compensated in accordance with customary rules as well as the social status of the aggrieved. The paper takes the perspective of social and cultural anthropology and aims to shed some light on the legal situation of women in Germanic laws. The author’s aim is to in…
Expressive character identity of teen lesbian characters on 'Glee' & 'Pretty Little Liars'
2017
Seksuaalivähemmistöjen asema heteronormatiivisessa yhteiskunnassa on puhututtanut ahkerasti muutaman viime vuosikymmenen aikana. Globaalisti seksuaalivähemmistöjä laajalle yleisölle ovat tehneet tutuiksi populaarikulttuuriset valtavirtasisällöt kuten amerikkalaiset elokuvat ja televisiosarjat. Monet nuoret, jotka vasta rakentavat omaa seksuaali-identiteettiään, ammentavat vaikutteita näistä sisällöistä, erityisesti heidän ikäryhmilleen kohdistetuista tuotannoista kuten nuorten sarjoista. Siten on tarpeellista tutkia seksuaalivähemmistöjä edustavien fiktiivisten hahmojen kokonaisvaltaisia representaatioita suosittujen amerikkalaisten nuorten sarjojen kontekstissa ja päivittää tutkimus 1990-l…
The reactivity of neonatal rabbits to the mammary pheromone as a probe for viability
2012
International audience; Newborn rabbits depend on a daily nursing interaction with the mother to gain milk and to survive. During this interaction, they localise and seize the nipples displaying a typical behaviour triggered by maternal odour cues. The mammary pheromone constitutes such a signal in domestic rabbits: it elicits sucking-related movements in more than 90% of the pups. However, some newborns remain unresponsive to the presentation of the pheromone, even pups apparently healthy and highly motivated to suck. The main goal of the present study was therefore to explore the link between the unresponsiveness of rabbit pups to the mammary pheromone and their growth and survival in bre…
Despidos laborales. Fracturas sociales e identitarias
2008

Migrant rap in the periphery : performing politics of belonging
2017
Focusing on a YouTube performance by an emergent Finnish Somali rapper and the audience responses it has generated, this paper looks at ways in which rap music engages with the issue of belonging. Drawing on recent theorizations of belonging as a multi-dimensional, contingent and fluid process, along with sociolinguistic work on globalization and superdiversity, Finnish hip hop culture and popular cultural practices in social media, the paper investigates how belonging is performatively and multi-semiotically interrogated in its online context. It shows how rap can serve as a significant site and channel for new voices in turbulent social settings characterized by rapid social change and co…

2016
This communication deals with the “general public” of visitors to a number of interactive exhibits that accord a direct or indirect role to the sense of touch in knowledge mediation and interpretation. The role of touch is discussed in terms of its limitations and constraints in communication situations. The social mobilizations of touch are not immediately evident; what are the conditions under which visitors actually use touch in experiencing an exhibit? What connections with other signifiers are the most conducive to reception? This qualitative research relies on observation and interviews. Apprehension of interactive objects appears to be dependent on the surrounding setting of sociabil…
