Global Understanding Environment
2009
Industry pushes a new type of Internet characterized as the Internet of Things, which represents a fusion of the physical and digital worlds. The technology of the Internet of Things opens new horizons for industrial automation, that is, automated monitoring, control, maintenance planning, and so forth, of industrial resources and processes. Internet of Things definitely needs explicit semantics, even more than the traditional Web—for automatic discovery and interoperability among heterogeneous devices and also to facilitate the behavioral coordination of the components of complex physical-digital systems. In this chapter, the authors describe their work towards the Global Understanding Env…
Semantic HMC for Big Data Analysis
2014
International audience; Analyzing Big Data can help corporations to im-prove their efficiency. In this work we present a new vision to derive Value from Big Data using a Semantic Hierarchical Multi-label Classification called Semantic HMC based in a non-supervised Ontology learning process. We also proposea Semantic HMC process, using scalable Machine-Learning techniques and Rule-based reasoning.
Measuring the Rate of Information Transfer in Point-Process Data: Application to Cardiovascular Interactions
2021
We present the implementation to cardiovascular variability of a method for the information-theoretic estimation of the directed interactions between event-based data. The method allows to compute the transfer entropy rate (TER) from a source to a target point process in continuous time, thus overcoming the severe limitations associated with time discretization of event-based processes. In this work, the method is evaluated on coupled cardiovascular point processes representing the heartbeat dynamics and the related peripheral pulsation, first using a physiologically-based simulation model and then studying real point-process data from healthy subjects monitored at rest and during postural …
A Semantic Model to Query Spatial–Temporal Data
2013
There is a growing need for the study of spatial–temporal objects and their relationships. A common approach for this task is the use of relational databases, which unfortunately do not allow inference. In this research, we introduce a new approach that uses the concept of a “continuum” together with ontologies and semantic Web technologies. The continuum allows us to define parent–child relationships between representations of objects. It also allows us to compare the evolution of two different objects and establish the relationships between them along time. Our approach is based on the four-dimensional fluent, which is extended to obtain spatial–temporal qualitative information from the a…
SEMANTIC MANAGEMENT OF INTELLIGENT MULTI-AGENTS SYSTEMS IN A 3D ENVIRONMENT
2011
8 pages; International audience; This paper presents a new approach combining the 3D elements composing the environment of mobile agents with semantic descriptors from Building Information Models. Our proposal is based on the IFC standard, which is used in the field of Civil Engineering to build digital models of buildings during the design phase. The semantic of IFC objects composing the 3D environment is used to select and set up 3D objects and elements of simulation scenarios. The result of this process dynamically generates the input files for the JaSIM environment that performs the simulation. These files deserve the representation of the virtual environment in which the simulation is …
Meta model of e-learning materials development
2014
The multitude of software tools is available for the creation of learning resources. However the majority of these tools provided by different software producers do not have a unified mechanism by means of which it would be possible to search and reuse the existing learning resources or their elements. To solve this problem the structures of descriptive data can be used. The aim of this paper is to describe a meta-model of e-learning objects and e-learning formats that could be used in the creation of e-learning materials compatible with various e-learning standards. The meta-data models that are used in widely-known learning resourcesâ repositories and their structureâs metadata standa…
Dynamics of real labour productivity and real compensation in Latvia
2019
Relationship between labour productivity and wages is an important issue not only for economists, but also for policy makers. In the last decades, we have witnessed that in the EU15 wage growth has been lagging productivity growth. At the same time in Latvia, also in some other central and eastern European member states, wages increased more than productivity, rising concerns about disbalance in the economy. However, comparison of wage level and productivity level in Latvia and respective levels in the EU15 shows that wage level in Latvia is much below the EU15 average value in absolute terms, but also in relation to productivity level. To understand whether dissimilarities in wage and prod…
Effects of a Travel Behaviour Change Program on Sustainable Travel
2018
The main objective of the present study is to analyse the effect of a Travel Behaviour Change Program (TBCP) based on health improvement actions, in relation to a potential for an increase in walking and cycling, with reference to particular groups of people defined according to sociodemographics. A TBCP consisting of three persuasion actions based on health improvements was planned and executed in Valencia (Spain). A two-wave panel survey was used to study the effects of taking part in the TBCP. The panel survey collected data related to activity-travel scheduling process before and after the execution of the TBCP. To study the influence of participating in the TBCP, respondents were separ…

An ontology-based metamodel for multiagent-based simulations
2014
Multiagent-based simulations enable us to validate dierent use-case scenarios in a lot of application domains. The idea is to develop a realistic virtual environment to test particular domain-specic procedures. This paper presents our general framework for interactive multiagent-based simulations in virtual environments. The major contribution of this paper is the integration of the notion of ontology as a core element to the design process of a behavioral simulation. The proposed metamodel describes the concepts of a multiagent simulation using situated agents moving in a semantically enriched 3D environment. The agents perceive the geometric and semantic data in the surrounding environmen…
