Minimally Invasive Pelvic Exenteration for Gynecologic Malignancies: A Multi-Institutional Case Series and Review of the Literature.

2019

ABSTRACT Study Objective To assess the feasibility and efficacy of minimally invasive pelvic exenteration (MIPE) in a multi-institutional Italian case series of women with gynecologic cancer and a review of the literature. Design Retrospective cohort study (Canadian Task Force classification II-2). Setting Three Italian university/teaching hospitals: “Agostino Gemelli” Foundation University Hospital in Rome, "ARNAS Civico Di Cristina Benfratelli” Hospital in Palermo, and “Maggiore della Carita” Hospital in Novara. Patients We reviewed all consecutive cases with gynecologic malignancies in this multi-institutional setting recorded between March 2014 and June 2017. Women with primary or centr…

Clinical and echographical control protocol of haemarthrosis in haemophilia patients with inhibitors: evaluation of the efficacy of recombinant facto…

2008

Summary.  The intention of the ‘clinical and echographical protocol of evaluation the efficacy of recombinant activated factor VII in the haemarthrosis’ (EFFISEVEN protocol) was to provide an extensive study of the evolution of haemarthrosis, and second, of its repercussions on the degenerative process of joints. The clinical evaluation of haemarthroses and their evolution is based on a well-established methodology, although very few studies have sought to determine the correlation between pain, mobility and the objective data regarding the haemorrhage. We believe that it is necessary to unify criteria and that the EFFISEVEN protocol may contribute data that improve standards which, in turn…

A Graph-Grammar Approach to Represent Causal, Temporal and Other Contexts in an Oncological Patient Record

1996

AbstractThe data of a patient undergoing complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures do not only form a simple chronology of events, but are closely related in many ways. Such data contexts include causal or temporal relationships, they express inconsistencies and revision processes, or describe patient-specific heuristics. The knowledge of data contexts supports the retrospective understanding of the medical decision-making process and is a valuable base for further treatment. Conventional data models usually neglect the problem of context knowledge, or simply use free text which is not processed by the program. In connection with the development of the knowledge-based system THEMPO (The…

Reference Standards for Software Evaluation

1990

AbstractThe field of automated ECG analysis was one of the earliest topics in Medical Informatics and may be regarded as a model both for computer-assisted medical diagnosis and for evaluating medical diagnostic programs. The CSE project has set reference standards of two kinds: In a broad sense, a standard how to perform a comprehensive evaluation study, in a narrow sense, standards as specific references for evaluating computer ECG programs. The evaluation methodology used within the CSE project is described as a basis for presentation of results which are published elsewhere in this issue.

Use of Information from Clinical Trials for an Integrated Cancer Registry

1990

AbstractThe registry of childhood malignancies in the F.R.G. is a combination of a population-based and hospital-based cancer registry. A large amount of the collected data originates from multicenter clinical trials which are integrated into the documentation system of the cancer registry. The paper describes the information flow and the system of data storage which consists of a central database on a departmental system at the registry and of several coordinated peripheral databases on microcomputers at the trial centers. Practical experience shows an increased availability and validity of the data in the registry since the implementation of the system. Aspects of data integrity and secur…

A Novel Deep Learning Stack for APT Detection

2019

We present a novel Deep Learning (DL) stack for detecting Advanced Persistent threat (APT) attacks. This model is based on a theoretical approach where an APT is observed as a multi-vector multi-stage attack with a continuous strategic campaign. To capture these attacks, the entire network flow and particularly raw data must be used as an input for the detection process. By combining different types of tailored DL-methods, it is possible to capture certain types of anomalies and behaviour. Our method essentially breaks down a bigger problem into smaller tasks, tries to solve these sequentially and finally returns a conclusive result. This concept paper outlines, for example, the problems an…

Patterns of Experienced Aging with a Finnish Cohort

1993

A cohort study of eighty-year old residents in Jyväskylä (pop. 66,000), central Finland, was carried out in 1990 as part of the EVERGREEN-project. A total of 262 persons born in 1910 were interviewed in the cohort study. The survey data produced a fairly accurate picture of the respondents' objective situation. In order to shed further light on how the respondents felt about growing old, tape recorded narrative stories were collected from a subsample of twenty persons (10 women and 10 men). The stories revealed the subjective meanings and evaluations attached by the individuals concerned to their own aging. Being members of the same culture and the same age cohort, they also shared the sam…

Derivation and Validation of a Chronic Total Coronary Occlusion Intervention Procedural Success Score From the 20,000-Patient EuroCTO Registry : the …

2019

Objectives: The aim was to establish a contemporary scoring system to predict the outcome of chronic total occlusion coronary angioplasty. Background: Interventional treatment of chronic total coronary occlusions (CTOs) is a developing subspecialty. Predictors of technical success or failure have been derived from datasets of modest size. A robust scoring tool could facilitate case selection and inform decision making. Methods: The study analyzed data from the EuroCTO registry. This prospective database was set up in 2008 and includes >20,000 cases submitted by CTO expert operators (>50 cases/year). Derivation (n = 14,882) and validation (n = 5,745) datasets were created to develop a …

Adaptation and psychometric data of the Exploration of Natural Metalinguistic Skills in Aphasia Protocol (MetAphAs) - Chilean version.

2019

This study aimed to cross culturally adapt the Protocol for the Exploration of Natural Metalinguistic Skills in Aphasia (MetAphAs), contributing to the future application in the aphasic Chilean population. The sample corresponds to 72 healthy subjects in the region of Valparaíso, between the ages of 50 to 85. The MetAphAs measures natural metalinguistic skills and presents the basic elements on which to base the exploration of the metacognitive dimensions involved in verbal behavior. The validity was ascertained by means of Cronbach's Alpha Coefficient, including the values of each of the 6 sections; the correlations between variables were analyzed by the Pearson coefficient. We observed that…

Unveiling the Antecedents of International Diversification: An Agency Theory Approach

2014

While various studies have developed hypotheses about the antecedents of international diversification drawing mainly on the resource-based view, the behavioral theory of the firm, and the transaction costs literature, we advance our understanding by investigating the explanatory power of agency costs of free cash flow arguments. Using a sample panel of 167 Italian firms longitudinally evaluated during the 1980-2010 period, this study tests whether the firm’s choice to spread operations in multiple foreign countries is conditioned by excess of free cash flow and debt, especially in firm-contexts where agency problems are exacerbated by managers or large shareholders’ opportunism. We find th…
