In questo contesto emergono le figure ancora poco conosciute degli orafi Giovanni Tommaso de Mare e Francesco Vidall. The essay deals with the artistic-cultural relationships between Sicily, Malta and Naples in the field of modern jewelery. In this context the still little known figures of the goldsmiths Giovanni Tommaso de Mare and Francesco Vidall emerge.

The collection of works in Trapanese coral exhibited at the XXXI International Biennial of Antiques in Florence demonstrates show such production was characterized by a consistently high cultural level and refined artistic knowledge. This volume constitutes the second stage of a research project which, through a detailed study of the accounts of foreign travellers who arrived in Sicily between the 17th and 19th centuries, has identified descriptions of the Sicilian decorative arts seen during their itineraries. After having published the results of the research on the diaries of English travellers in the volume Beauty and Splendour - Le Arti Decorative siciliane nei diari dei viaggiatori inglesi tra XVIII e XIX secolo, the results of the scientific research on the diaries of French travellers are presented here.
