Arbitrarily shaped plates analysis via Line Element-Less Method (LEM)

Abstract An innovative procedure is introduced for the analysis of arbitrarily shaped thin plates with various boundary conditions and under generic transverse loading conditions. Framed into Line Element-less Method, a truly meshfree method, this novel approach yields the solution in terms of the deflection function in a straightforward manner, without resorting to any discretization, neither in the domain nor on the boundary. The production of reference Cu-based alloys is the first step of an original experimental protocol to be used in the field of conservation and restoration of metal artefacts. The production of these synthetic alloys has a double value. The essay concerns the results of the archaeological excavation carried out in the area East of the s.c. "hypogeum L" in the Early Christian cemetery of Agrigentum in the year 1999; it contains, also, the catalogue of the Medieval coarse and cooking wares (ollae) found in the area, and the different types of supports used in the ceramic workshop established in the Late Antique cemetery during the Middle Ages.

Trenta anni di scavi e ricerche nell'area della necropoli paleocristiana di Agrigento hanno evidenziato la presenza di una arteria che servì il cimitero dal IV all'VIII secolo. La strada riutilizzava il tracciato di un acquedotto di età greca che alimentava una serie di cisterne a loro volta trasformate in spazi funerari privati o comunitari. Dopo l'abbandono e la distruzione e del cimitero, nell' XI secolo, nell'area fu impiantata un'officina ceramica per la produzione di vasellame di uso comune.

New trials in the consolidation of waterlogged archaeological wood with different acetone-carried products

Some acetone-carried consolidants for waterlogged archaeological wood were tested in order to evaluate treatments able to save time and energy. In details, colophony (rosin), two esterified colophonies (Rosin 100® and Rosin 459®), a mixture of colophony with PEG 3400 and a vinyl acetate - vinyl versate copolymer (Vinavil 8020S®) were tested. The treatments were carried out at temperatures of 20 and 35 °C on waterlogged maritime pine, elm, oak and beech.
