Fluorescence lifetime spectroscopy: potential for in-vivo estimation of skin fluorophores changes after low power laser treatment

2013

The impact of visible cwlaser irradiation on skin autofluorescence lifetimes was investigated in spectral range from 450 nm to 600 nm. Skin optical provocations were performed during 1 min by 405 nm low power cw laser with power density up to 20 mW/cm 2 . Autofluorescence lifetimes were measured before and immediately after the optical provocation.

Assessment of multiaxial fatigue behaviour of welded joints under combined bending and torsion by application of a fictitious notch radius

2004

Abstract A major problem in the assessment of the multiaxial fatigue behaviour in welded joints is the determination of local notch stresses, since the real local radii in most cases are not known. This can be circumvented by introducing a fictitious notch radius, according to Neuber and Radaj. The calculations of local equivalent stress amplitudes for welded joints (tube–tube and flange–tube) under pure bending, pure torsion and combined in- and out-of-phase bending with torsion can then be carried out by stress-based and strain energy density-based criteria. Among the investigated methods, the most reliable results are obtained with the effective equivalent stress hypothesis, an integral …

Structural, Optical, and Dielectric Investigations of the Relaxor PLZT 9,75/65/35 Ceramics Irradiated by High-Current Pulsed Electron Beam

2003

A comprehensive study of high-current pulsed electron irradiation effects on the structural, optical and dielectric properties of relaxor (Pb (1-x )La x )(Zr 0.65 Ti 0.35 ) 1-x/4 O 3 ceramics with x = 9,75 at.% has been performed for the first time. The electron beam had the following parameters: energy E = 250 keV, current density I = 1000 A/cm 2 , pulse duration τ = 300 ns, beam density -10 15 electrons/cm 2 per pulse. Infrared reflectivity spectra in the region of 100 ÷ 2000 cm -1 were obtained in virgin, irradiated by 1500 pulses and annealed up to 500°C ceramics. The reconstruction of perovskite ABO 3 structure in irradiated samples has been studied by combined use of X-ray diffraction…

Critical Planes in Multiaxial Fatigue

2005

The paper includes a review of literature on the multiaxial fatigue failure criteria based on the critical plane concept. The criteria were divided into three groups according to the distinguished fatigue damage parameter used in the criterion, i.e. (i) stress, (ii) strain and (iii) strain energy density criteria. Each criterion was described mainly by the applied the critical plane position. The multiaxial fatigue criteria based on two critical planes seem to be the most promising. These two critical planes are determined by different fatigue damage mechanisms (shear and tensile mechanisms).

Criteria of multiaxial random fatigue based on stress, strain and energy parameters of damage in the critical plane

2005

In this paper generalized criteria of multiaxial random fatigue based on stress, strain and strain energy density parameters in the critical plane have been discussed. The proposed criteria reduce multiaxial state of stress to the equivalent uniaxial tension–compression or alternating bending. Relations between the coefficients occurring in the considered criteria have been derived. Thus, it is possible to take into account fatigue properties of materials under simple loading states during determination of the multiaxial fatigue life. Presented models have successfully correlated fatigue lives of cast iron GGG40 and steel 18G2A specimens under constant amplitude in-phase and out-of-phase lo…

A critical plane approach based on energy concepts: application to biaxial random tension-compression high-cycle fatigue regime

1999

Abstract In this paper the energy parameter, defined for random loadings, is analysed. Under uniaxial loading this parameter distinguishes between the strain energy density for tension (positive) and the strain energy density for compression (negative). As a consequence, if there is no mean component in the random loading, we obtain a random history of strain (elastic and plastic) energy density with zero expected value. Under multiaxial loadings the normal strain energy density in the critical plane (i.e. the plane of the maximum damage) is understood as the energy parameter. The history of strain energy density is schematized with use of the rain-flow algorithm. Fatigue damage is accumula…

Photoemission Electron Microscopy as a tool for the investigation of optical near fields

2005

Photoemission electron microscopy was used to image the electrons photoemitted from specially tailored Ag nanoparticles deposited on a Si substrate (with its native oxide SiO$_{x}$). Photoemission was induced by illumination with a Hg UV-lamp (photon energy cutoff $\hbar\omega_{UV}=5.0$ eV, wavelength $\lambda_{UV}=250$ nm) and with a Ti:Sapphire femtosecond laser ($\hbar\omega_{l}=3.1$ eV, $\lambda_{l}=400$ nm, pulse width below 200 fs), respectively. While homogeneous photoelectron emission from the metal is observed upon illumination at energies above the silver plasmon frequency, at lower photon energies the emission is localized at tips of the structure. This is interpreted as a signat…

Femtosecond time-resolved photoemission electron microscopy operated at sample illumination from the rear side

2019

We present an advanced experimental setup for time-resolved photoemission electron microscopy (PEEM) with sub-20 fs resolution, which allows for normal incidence and highly local sample excitation with ultrashort laser pulses. The scheme makes use of a sample rear side illumination geometry that enables us to confine the sample illumination spot to a diameter as small as 6 μm. We demonstrate an operation mode in which the spatiotemporal dynamics following a highly local excitation of the sample is globally probed with a laser pulse illuminating the sample from the front side. Furthermore, we show that the scheme can also be operated in a time-resolved normal incidence two-photon PEEM mode w…
