3D Integral Microscopy based in far-field detection

2018

Lately, Integral-Imaging systems have shown very promising capabilities of capturing the 3D structure of micro- scopic and macroscopic scenes. The aim of this work is to provide an optimal design for 3D-integral microscopy with extended depth of field and enhanced lateral resolution. By placing an array of microlenses at the aperture stop of the objective, this setup provides a set of orthographic views of the 3D sample. Adopting well known integral imaging reconstruction algorithms it can be shown that the depth of field as well as spatial resolution are improved with respect to conventional integral microscopy imaging. Our claims are supported on theoretical basis and experimental images …

Three-dimensional imaging system with both improved lateral resolution and depth of field considering non-uniform system parameters

2018

In this paper, we propose a new 3D passive image sensing and visualization technique to improve lateral resolution and depth of field (DoF) of integral imaging simultaneously. There is a resolution trade-off between lateral resolution and DoF in integral imaging. To overcome this issue, a large aperture and a small aperture can be used to record the elemental images to reduce the diffraction effect and extend the DoF, respectively. Therefore, in this paper, we utilize these two pickup concepts with a non-uniform camera array. To show the feasibility of our proposed method, we implement an optical experiment. For comparison in details, we calculate the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) as th…

Mapping properties of weakly singular periodic volume potentials in Roumieu classes

2020

The analysis of the dependence of integral operators on perturbations plays an important role in the study of inverse problems and of perturbed boundary value problems. In this paper, we focus on the mapping properties of the volume potentials with weakly singular periodic kernels. Our main result is to prove that the map which takes a density function and a periodic kernel to a (suitable restriction of the) volume potential is bilinear and continuous with values in a Roumieu class of analytic functions. This result extends to the periodic case of some previous results obtained by the authors for nonperiodic potentials, and it is motivated by the study of perturbation problems for the solut…

Wannier90 as a community code: new features and applications

2019

Wannier90 is an open-source computer program for calculating maximally-localised Wannier functions (MLWFs) from a set of Bloch states. It is interfaced to many widely used electronic-structure codes thanks to its independence from the basis sets representing these Bloch states. In the past few years the development of Wannier90 has transitioned to a community-driven model; this has resulted in a number of new developments that have been recently released in Wannier90 v3.0. In this article we describe these new functionalities, that include the implementation of new features for wannierisation and disentanglement (symmetry-adapted Wannier functions, selectively-localised Wannier functions, s…

Targeting human {gamma}delta} T cells with zoledronate and interleukin-2 for immunotherapy of hormone-refractory prostate cancer.

2007

Abstract The increasing evidence that γδ T cells have potent antitumor activity suggests their value in immunotherapy, particularly in areas of unmet need such as metastatic carcinoma. To this end, we initiated a phase I clinical trial in metastatic hormone-refractory prostate cancer to examine the feasibility and consequences of using the γδ T-cell agonist zoledronate, either alone or in combination with low-dose interleukin 2 (IL-2), to activate peripheral blood γδ cells. Nine patients were enlisted to each arm. Neither treatment showed appreciable toxicity. Most patients were treated with zoledronate + IL-2, but conversely only two treated with zoledronate displayed a significant long-te…

The resemblance of an autocorrelation function to a power spectrum density for a spike train of an auditory model

2013

In this work we develop an analytical approach for calculation of the all-order interspike interval density (AOISID), show its connection with the autocorrelation function, and try to explain the discovered resemblance of AOISID to the power spectrum of the same spike train.

In vitro pulsatile and continuous transdermal delivery of buserelin by iontophoresis

1993

Abstract Transdermal delivery of buserelin, a nonapeptide, from hydroxyethylcellulose hydrogel through isolated human stratum comeum was studied. In vitro studies were carried out in a drug release apparatus (DAB 10/USP XII) using self designed rotary disk cells equipped with platinum electrodes. Different forms of current were examined. A pulsatile application of continuous current resulted in a step-like permeation profile. Different on/off ratios (5 min/55 min; 10 min/50 min; 15 min/45 min)) were studied. When continuous non-interrupted current with different current densities (0.1–0.3 mA·cm −2 ) was applied, linear dependence of the final cumulative amount of buserelin on current durati…

Island incidence and mainland population density: Mammals from Mediterranean islands

2002

. The reasons why some species are resistant to extinction or are better invaders of islands than others remain unexplained. In this study, we test the hypothesis that mammals living on the mainland at higher density than predicted by the density/body mass relationship have a much greater chance to colonize a small island successfully, and/or that they are less likely to become extinct when living on small islands. For this, we used data compiled on mammals from a number of Mediterranean islands. We show a nested pattern for mammals on western Mediterranean islands, which suggests that the distribution of mammals on these islands is not the result of a random process. Using two comparative …

Searches for B0 decays to combinations of charmless isoscalar mesons

2004

We search for B meson decays into two-body combinations of eta, eta', omega, and phi mesons from 89 million B B-bar pairs collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider at SLAC. We find the branching fraction BF(B0 -> eta omega) = (4.0^{+1.3}_{-1.2} +- 0.4) x 10^-6 with a significance of 4.3 sigma. For all the other decay modes we set the following 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions, in units of 10^-6 : BF(B0 -> eta eta)<2.8, BF(B0 -> eta eta')<4.6, BF(B0 -> eta' eta')<10, BF(B0 -> eta'omega)<2.8, BF(B0 -> eta phi)<1.0, BF(B0 -> eta' phi)<4.5, BF(B0 -> phi phi)<1.5.

Level-Crossing Rate and Average Duration of Fades in Non-Isotropic Hoyt Fading Channels with Applications to Selection Combining Diversity

2015

In this paper, we investigate the second-order statistics of Hoyt fading channels under non isotropic scattering scenarios. Assuming an asymmetrical Doppler power spectral density (PSD), we derive, in the form of single finite-range integrals, expressions for the level-crossing rate (LCR) and average duration of fades (ADF). These new results are then applied to obtain the LCR and ADF of selection combining (SC) diversity over non-isotropic Hoyt channels. In addition to their importance for studying the system performance and characterizing the dynamic behavior of multipath fading channels, the formulas derived are general in that they can be applied to many non-isotropic scattering situati…
