<title>Proton conducting polymer electrolytes for electrochromic devices</title>

1997

This report concerns a composite proton electrolyte suitable for use in electrochromic devices. The electrolyte consists of nanosize hydrated oxide (aluminum, silicon or antimonic) particles suspended in a poly(vinyl acetate) matrix. All of the water was strongly bonded, thus making the electrolytes less harmful without considerably decreasing the conductivity. The proton conductivity of the electrolyte was approximately 10-4 S/cm at room temperature, practically independent of its amount of absorbed water.© (1997) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering. RecomMetz: A context-aware knowledge-based mobile recommender system for movie showtimes

2015

Abstract Recommender systems are used to provide filtered information from a large amount of elements. They provide personalized recommendations on products or services to users. The recommendations are intended to provide interesting elements to users. Recommender systems can be developed using different techniques and algorithms where the selection of these techniques depends on the area in which they will be applied. This paper proposes a recommender system in the leisure domain, specifically in the movie showtimes domain. The system proposed is called RecomMetz, and it is a context-aware mobile recommender system based on Semantic Web technologies. In detail, a domain ontology primarily…

CZT-Based Harmonic Analysis in Smart Grid Using Low-Cost Electronic Measurement Boards

2023

This paper validates the use of a harmonic analysis algorithm on a microcontroller to perform measurements of non-stationary signals in the context of smart grids. The increasing presence of electronic devices such as inverters of distributed generators (DG), power converters of charging stations for electric vehicles, etc. can drain non-stationary currents during their operation. A classical fast Fourier transform (FFT) algorithm may not have sufficient spectral resolution for the evaluation of harmonics and inter-harmonics. Thus, in this paper, the implementation of a chirp-Z transform (CZT) algorithm is suggested, which has a spectral resolution independent from the observation window. T…

A Phenomenographic Research Study of Students’ Conceptions of Mobile Learning: An Example From Higher Education

2019

This article aims to identify different ways of using mobile devices in students’ learning in higher education. This qualitative research presents the findings from a phenomenographic research of students’ conceptions of mobile learning (m-learning) in higher education. A cohort of 16 students from four universities of Bangladesh took part in semi-structured interviews to explore their in-depth understandings and experiences of m-learning. The findings indicate that university students perceived five qualitatively different ways of using mobile devices in their learning: a medium for communication; a medium for management of learning materials; a tool for effective learning; a means for co…

A Mobile Healthcare System for Sub-saharan Africa

2013

The disparity between healthcare systems in developed countries and underdeveloped countries is huge, particularly due to the fact that the healthcare infrastructure of former is based on a sophisticated technological infrastructure. Efforts are being made worldwide to bridge this disparity and make healthcare services affordable even to the most remote areas of undeveloped countries. Recent growth of mobile networks in underdeveloped countries argues for building mHealth systems and applications on their basis. However, peculiarities of the area introduce difficulties into potential use cases of mobile devices, thus making the copying of mHealth services from developed countries inapplicab…

Endpoint Admission Control over Assured Forwarding PHBs and Its Performance over RED Implementations

2001

The Assured Forwarding Per Hop Behavior (AF PHB) has been devised by the IETF Differentiated Services (DiffServ) working group to provide drop level differentiation. The intent of AF is to support services with different loss requirements, but with no strict delay and jitter guarantees. Another suggested use of AF is to provide differentiated support for traffic conforming to an edge conditioning/policing scheme with respect to nonconforming traffic. Scope of this paper is twofold. First, we show that, quite surprisingly, a standard AF PHB class is semantically capable of supporting per flow admission control. This is obtained by adopting the AF PHB as core routers forwarding mechanism in c…

Intraluminal Doppler-Sonography: Analysis and “in Vitro Test” of a New Device

1992

In treating patients with coronary heart disease it’ s necessary first to determine what influence the stenose has on the coronary blood flow. This is a prerequisite for any invasive treatment method. Coronary angiography explosures are only partially useful in attaining a functional evaluation of the haemodynamic stenoses.

High performance hardware correlation coefficient assessment using programmable logic for ECG signals

2003

Abstract Correlation coefficient is frequently used to obtain cardiac rhythm by peak estimation and appreciate differences in the signal compared to a pattern. This work focuses on the description of a real-time correlation assessment procedure. Applied to electrocardiogram (ECG) signals, a new correlation value is obtained every new sample and pulse detection information is provided. The ECG pattern is internally stored and can be changed when desired. This procedure is useful in Systems on Chip implementation and can be applied to design compact ECG monitoring systems consisting on a system on chip where programmable logic offloads the main processor. A Xilinx FPGA device has been used fo…

Oral health counselling in changing schoolchildren's oral hygiene habits: a qualitative study.

2006

Abstract –  Objective:  This study explored oral health counselling concerning changes of oral hygiene habits in 11- to 13-year-old schoolchildren within a theoretical framework of the transtheoretical model and the motivational interview. Methods:  The follow-up data (2002–2003) formed two sequential parts: the first part comprised 66 counselling sessions in 2002; the second part included 31 counselling sessions in 2003. Thirty-one (n = 31) schoolchildren were included in the counselling sessions that were conducted by four dental hygienists. The audiotaped and transcribed data were analysed qualitatively by using content analysis. Results:  In 2002, nearly every schoolchild needed to esta…

Assessment of tobacco dependence curricula in Italian dental hygiene schools

2013

The aim of this study was to assess the level of tobacco dependence education offered by Italian dental hygiene programs. A fifty-question survey was mailed to the thirty-one active public and private dental hygiene programs in Italy during the 2008-09 academic year. The survey assessed faculty confidence in teaching tobacco treatment, which courses contained tobacco dependence content, the number of minutes spent on specific content areas, and the level of clinical competence that dental hygiene graduates should be able to demonstrate. Surveys were returned by sixteen programs for a response rate of 52 percent. Respondents indicated tobacco dependence education was included in clinic or cl…
