Objective. In acromegaly, both lipotoxicity secondary to GH excess and insulin resistance have a significant impact on the liver. Ultrasonography has shown poor sensitivity in detecting hepatic steatosis and noninvasive methods have been proposed. We evaluated the hepatic steatosis index (HSI), a validated surrogate index of hepatic steatosis, and we correlated it with disease activity and insulin resistance. Design. Abstract Using mTOR inhibitors (mTORi) as anticancer drugs led to hyperglycemia (12–50%) and hyperlipidemia (7–73%) in phase-III trials. These high rates require adapted treatment in cancer patients. Before initiating mTORi treatment, lipid profile screening should be systematic, with fasting glucose assay in non-diabetic patients and HbA1C in diabetic patients. After initiation, lipid profile monitoring should be systematic, with fasting glucose assay in non-diabetic patients, every 2 weeks for the first month and then monthly. Abstract Obese subjects have shown a preference for dietary lipids. A recent collection of evidence has proposed that a variant in the CD36 gene plays a significant role in this pathway. We assessed the association between the orosensory detection of a long-chain fatty acid, i.e. oleic acid (OA), and genetic polymorphism of the lipid taste sensor CD36 in obese and normal-weight subjects.
