Enhancement pattern of hepatocellular adenoma (HCA) on MR imaging performed with Gd-EOB-DTPA versus other Gd-based contrast agents (GBCAs): An intrai…

2019

Purpose: To conduct an intraindividual comparison of the enhancement pattern of hepatocellular adenoma (HCA) on dynamic MRI study obtained following the injection of Gadoxetic acid (Gd-EOB-DTPA) and other gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs).Method: This is a retrospective, Institutional Review Board-approved study conducted in a single institution. A search of medical records between 2008 and 2017 revealed 17 patients (all females) with at least one pathologically-proven HCA who underwent liver MRI with Gd-EOB-DTPA and another GBCA within 1 year. Enhancement of each lesion on hepatic arterial (HAP), portal venous (PVP), 2 min and 4-5 minutes phases was subjectively evaluated by two abd…

ProC® Global Assay in the Evaluation of Women with History of Severe Preeclampsia or HELLP Syndrome

2003

Preeclampsia/HELLP syndrome has been associated with a high incidence of defects in the protein C pathway and increased anticardiolipin-antibodies/lupus anticoagulants. It is also apparent that thrombophilia is responsible for other pregnancy complications, such as recurrent spontaneous abortion, fetal growth restriction, intrauterine fetal death, and abruptio placentae. ProC® Global is a new global clotting assay designed to evaluate the abnormalities in the protein C anticoagulant pathway. It is based on the ability of endogenous activated protein C, generated by activation of protein C by Protac®, to prolong an activated partial thromboplastin time. A total of 61 patients with a history…

Cardiac Magnetic Resonance with Delayed Enhancement of the Right Ventricle in patients with Left Ventricle primary involvement: diagnosis and evaluat…

2020

: Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR) allows an accurate Right Ventricle (RV) assessment that could be of great relevance in diseases causing inflammation or fibrosis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the concomitant involvement of the RV in patients with delayed enhancement (DE) of the Left Ventricle (LV-DE) using CMR. We retrospectively enrolled 95 (male n. 66; age 55±18years; BMI 26±5kg/m2) consecutive patients with LV-DE who underwent a CMR (Achieva 1.5 T, Philips) for different indications: post-ischemic dilated cardiopathy (PDM), hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), myocardial infarction (MI), myocarditis/pericarditis (MP) and congenital heart disease (CD). We assessed the presence an…

The value of MRI in the evaluation of the ACL deficient knee and in the post-operative evaluation after ACL reconstruction

1993

To evaluate the usefulness of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the exploration of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) deficient-knee, a total of twenty-five patients with chronic instability of the knee joint and who underwent both MRI and arthroscopy were studied prospectively. Twenty-three of these patients underwent an intra-articular reconstruction of the ACL with bone-patellar tendon-bone autografts. For the ACL lesions MRI had a sensitivity of 95.8%, a specificity of 100% and a diagnostic accuracy of 97.7%. Associated bowing of the PCL was seen in 20 cases of the study group. For the associated meniscal lesions MRI had a sensitivity of 77.7%, a specificity of 94.7% and a diagnosti…

Hepatocellular carcinoma in cirrhotic patients at multidetector CT: hepatic venous phase versus delayed phase for the detection of tumour washout.

2011

OBJECTIVES: Our aim was to compare retrospectively hepatic venous and delayed phase images for the detection of tumour washout during multiphasic multidetector row CT (MDCT) of the liver in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS: 30 cirrhotic patients underwent multiphasic MDCT in the 90 days before liver transplantation. MDCT was performed before contrast medium administration and during hepatic arterial hepatic venous and delayed phases, images were obtained at 12, 55 and 120 s after trigger threshold. Two radiologists qualitatively evaluated images for lesion attenuation. Tumour washout was evaluated subjectively and objectively. Tumour-to-liver contrast (TLC) was measured…

Fibrosis staging in chronic hepatitis C: Analysis of discordance between transient elastography and liver biopsy

2009

Summary.  In chronic hepatitis C, transient elastography (TE) accurately identifies cirrhosis, but its ability to assess significant fibrosis (Metavir ≥ F2) is variable. Constitutional and liver disease-related factors may influence TE and here we examined the variables associated with differences. Three hundred consecutive hepatitis C virus (HCV)-RNA positive patients had biochemical tests, TE and a biopsy performed on the same day. The Dale model was used to identify the variables associated with discordance between biopsy and elastography results. In 97 patients (34.2%), TE and histological assessment were discordant. Seventy-six of 286 (26.6%) had stage ≥F2 and TE < 7.1 kPa (false negat…

Diagnostic value of MR-based texture analysis for the assessment of hepatic fibrosis in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)

2019

PurposeTo investigate the performance of MR-based texture analysis (TA) for the assessment of hepatic fibrosis in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).MethodsFifty-four adult patients (33 females, 21 males, mean age 49.813.5years) with biopsy-proven NAFLD were enrolled and underwent MR imaging on a 1.5T system. TA parameters were extracted on axial noncontrast 3D-GRE T1W images (slice thickness=4.6mm) using a commercially available research software (TexRAD). Receiver operating curves (ROC), areas under the ROC (AUROC) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated to assess the accuracy of each TA parameter for the diagnosis of significant (F2) and advanced fibrosis (F…

A semi-automatic approach for epicardial adipose tissue segmentation and quantification on cardiac CT scans

2019

Abstract Many studies have shown that epicardial fat is associated with a higher risk of heart diseases. Accurate epicardial adipose tissue quantification is still an open research issue. Considering that manual approaches are generally user-dependent and time-consuming, computer-assisted tools can considerably improve the result repeatability as well as reduce the time required for performing an accurate segmentation. Unfortunately, fully automatic strategies might not always identify the Region of Interest (ROI) correctly. Moreover, they could require user interaction for handling unexpected events. This paper proposes a semi-automatic method for Epicardial Fat Volume (EFV) segmentation a…

Performance characteristics of the new Abbott Real Time MTB assay for detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex in respiratory specimens

2015

The performance of the Abbott Real Time MTB assay for detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex in respiratory specimens was evaluated using a standard culture as the reference. The overall concordance between both methods was 0.95. The assay displayed an excellent sensitivity (100% for smear-positive/92.3% for smear-negative specimens) and specificity (100%).
