Phase diagram of dirty two-band superconductors and observability of impurity-induced s + i s state
2017
We investigate the phase diagram of dirty two-band superconductors. This paper primarily focuses on the properties and observability of the time-reversal symmetry-breaking s + is superconducting states, which can be generated in two-band superconductors by interband impurity scattering. We show that such states can appear in two distinct ways. First, according to a previously discussed scenario, the s + is state can form as an intermediate phase at the impurity-driven crossover between s± and s++ states. We show that there is a second scenario where domains of the s + is state exists in the form of an isolated dome inside the s± domain, completely detached from the transition between s± and…
Invasion biology in non‐free‐living species: interactions between abiotic (climatic) and biotic (host availability) factors in geographical space in …
2013
In invasion processes, both abiotic and biotic factors are considered essential, but the latter are usually disregarded when modeling the potential spread of exotic species. In the framework of set theory, interactions between biotic (B), abiotic (A), and movement-related (M) factors in the geographical space can be hypothesized with BAM diagrams and tested using ecological niche models (ENMs) to estimate A and B areas. The main aim of our survey was to evaluate the interactions between abiotic (climatic) and biotic (host availability) factors in geographical space for exotic symbionts (i.e., non-free-living species), using ENM techniques combined with a BAM framework and using exotic Entoc…
Quantum GestART: Identifying and Applying Correlations between Mathematics, Art, and Perceptual Organization
2020
Mathematics can help analyze the arts and inspire new artwork. Mathematics can also help make transformations from one artistic medium to another, considering exceptions and choices, as well as artists' individual and unique contributions. We propose a method based on diagrammatic thinking and quantum formalism. We exploit decompositions of complex forms into a set of simple shapes, discretization of complex images, and Dirac notation, imagining a world of "prototypes" that can be connected to obtain a fine or coarse-graining approximation of a given visual image. Visual prototypes are exchanged with auditory ones, and the information (position, size) characterizing visual prototypes is con…
General framework for testing Poisson-Voronoi assumption for real microstructures
2020
Modeling microstructures is an interesting problem not just in Materials Science but also in Mathematics and Statistics. The most basic model for steel microstructure is the Poisson-Voronoi diagram. It has mathematically attractive properties and it has been used in the approximation of single phase steel microstructures. The aim of this paper is to develop methods that can be used to test whether a real steel microstructure can be approximated by such a model. Therefore, a general framework for testing the Poisson-Voronoi assumption based on images of 2D sections of real metals is set out. Following two different approaches, according to the use or not of periodic boundary conditions, thre…
Avoiding strange attractors in efficient parametric families of iterative methods for solving nonlinear problems
2019
[EN] Searching zeros of nonlinear functions often employs iterative procedures. In this paper, we construct several families of iterative methods with memory from one without memory, that is, we have increased the order of convergence without adding new functional evaluations. The main aim of this manuscript yields in the advantage that the use of real multidimensional dynamics gives us to decide among the different classes designed and, afterwards, to select its most stable members. Moreover, we have found some elements of the family whose behavior includes strange attractors of different kinds that must be avoided in practice. In this sense, Feigenbaum diagrams have resulted an extremely …
Accurate representation of the distributions of the 3D Poisson-Voronoi typical cell geometrical features
2019
Understanding the intricate and complex materials microstructure and how it is related to materials properties is an important problem in the Materials Science field. For a full comprehension of this relation, it is fundamental to be able to describe the main characteristics of the 3-dimensional microstructure. The most basic model used for approximating steel microstructure is the Poisson-Voronoi diagram. Poisson-Voronoi diagrams have interesting mathematical properties, and they are used as a good model for single-phase materials. In this paper we exploit the scaling property of the underlying Poisson process to derive the distribution of the main geometrical features of the grains for ev…
Matter Dependence of the Four-Loop Cusp Anomalous Dimension
2019
We compute analytically the matter-dependent contributions to the quartic Casimir term of the four-loop light-like cusp anomalous dimension in QCD, with $n_f$ fermion and $n_s$ scalar flavours. The result is extracted from the double pole of a scalar form factor. We adopt a new strategy for the choice of master integrals with simple analytic and infrared properties, which significantly simplifies our calculation. To this end we first identify a set of integrals whose integrands have a dlog form, and are hence expected to have uniform transcendental weight. We then perform a systematic analysis of the soft and collinear regions of loop integration and build linear combinations of integrals w…
Similarity-Based Virtual Screening to Find Antituberculosis Agents Based on Novel Scaffolds: Design, Syntheses and Pharmacological Assays
2022
A method to identify molecular scaffolds potentially active against the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC) is developed. A set of structurally heterogeneous agents against MTBC was used to obtain a mathematical model based on topological descriptors. This model was statistically validated through a Leave-n-Out test. It successfully discriminated between active or inactive compounds over 86% in database sets. It was also useful to select new potential antituberculosis compounds in external databases. The selection of new substituted pyrimidines, pyrimidones and triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidines was particularly interesting because these structures could provide new scaffolds in this field. T…

Contrasting shell growth strategies in two Mediterranean bivalves revealed by oxygen-isotope ratio geochemistry: The case of Pecten jacobaeus and Gly…
2019
International audience; High-resolution stable-isotope ratio data (delta O-18, delta O-18) were used to study growth strategies of two bivalve species, Pecten jacobaeus (calcitic shell) and Glycymeris pilosa (aragonitic shell) from the North Adriatic Sea. The principal objectives of this study were to identify the period of the year when the growth line is formed in the shell of two target species, to identify the main growing season of these two species, to identify the environmental drivers of shell growth, and to evaluate the potential applicability of delta O-18 and delta O-18 values for the reconstruction of environmental variability. Samples were collected from the North Adriatic Sea …
