Purpose The effect of the transition toward digital technologies on today’s businesses (i.e. Industry 4.0 transition) is becoming increasingly relevant, and the number of studies that have examined this phenomenon has grown rapidly. However, systematizing the existing findings is still a challenge, from both a theoretical and a managerial point of view. In such a setting, the knowledge management (KM) discipline can provide guidance to address such a gap. AbstractThe interplay between internationalization and digitalization (IDI) is a relatively young research domain that is finding its way into numerous academic journals, which motivates us to systematically portray the proceedings and evolutions of this interplay over time, analyze its methodological and theoretical background and, more importantly, provide insights to guide future research on these phenomena. The effect of wavelet and discrete cosine transform compression of digital radiographs on the detection of subtle proximal caries. ROC analysis.

The study compared diagnostic performances of 2 different image compression methods: JPEG (discrete cosine transform; Joint Photographic Experts Group compression standard) versus JPEG2000 (discrete wavelet transform), both at a compression ratio of 12:1, from the original uncompressed TIFF radiograph with respect to the detection of non-cavitated carious lesions. Therefore, 100 approximal surfaces of 50 tooth pairs were evaluated on the radiographs by 10 experienced observers using a 5-point confidence scale. Questo studio riguarda una ricerca svolta a partire dal 2016 sul tema della valorizzazione della rappresentazione architettonica attraverso una metodologia di lettura del patrimonio che ha messo in evidenza le possibilità offerte dalla modellazione digitale nell'interpretazione dell’iconografia storica, con l’obiettivo di acquisire una maggiore consapevolezza del territorio e del fatto architettonico. L’articolo intende affrontare uno studio iconografico sulle rappresentazioni più emblematiche della città di Agrigento nelle quali i viaggiatori del Grand Tour tentarono di catturare l’essenza di quei luoghi un tempo massima sacralità del culto pagano, successivamente divenuti meta di approfondimento culturale che ispirarono l’immaginazione di disegnatori e letterati giunti in Sicilia, già a partire dal XVII secolo, per completare gli studi universitari e annotare le proprie esperienze suggellandole in quelle che Platone definiva “le forme più alte e più vere di conoscenza: le idee” per poi raccontarle attraverso itinerari grafici.

Literacy and literacy practices: Plurilingual connected migrants and emerging literacy

Abstract Recent migration towards Europe is characterized by the massive presence of adults whose educational paths have been interrupted and who are thus developing literacy for the first time in a new language. A literacy test elaborated at the University of Palermo, Italy, showed that, on a sample of 774 migrants, about 30 percent could not read and/or write short words. This test assessed the learners’ abilities to read and write, whether in the Roman alphabet or in other writing systems, and whether in Italian or in other languages of learners’ repertoires.
