Measurement of CP asymmetries in the decays B0 → K*0 μ+μ- and B+ → K+ μ+μ-

The direct CP asymmetries of the decays B 0 → K *0 μ + μ − and B + → K + μ + μ − are measured using pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb−1 collected with the LHCb detector. The respective control modes B 0 → J/ψK *0 and B + → J/ψK + are used to account for detection and production asymmetries. The measurements are made in several intervals of μ + μ − invariant mass squared, with the ϕ(1020) and charmonium resonance regions excluded. Under the hypothesis of zero CP asymmetry in the control modes, the average values of the asymmetries are ACP(B0→K∗0μ+μ−)=−0.035±0.024±0.003,ACP(B+→K+μ+μ−)=0.012±0.017±0.001, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the …

Abstract In this paper, an approach based on the definition of the Riemann–Liouville fractional operators is proposed in order to provide a different discretisation technique as alternative to the Grunwald–Letnikov operators. The proposed Riemann–Liouville discretisation consists of performing step-by-step integration based upon the discretisation of the function f(t). It has been shown that, as f(t) is discretised as stepwise or piecewise function, the Riemann–Liouville fractional integral and derivative are governing by operators very similar to the Grunwald–Letnikov operators. The research concerns a make to order manufacturing environment and two classes of customers who submit orders. The core customers have a contract with the firm at fixed services level (price and due date). The short-term customers submit the orders based on the price set by the firm. In this paper, it is proposed a pricing policy based on fuzzy logic to set the price for the short-term customers. The fuzzy approach captures the state of the manufacturing systems in terms of congestion in order to set the price. Abstract A minimum volume design problem of elastic perfectly plastic frame structures subjected to different combinations of fixed and seismic loads is presented, in which the design variables are considered as appertaining alternatively to a continuous assigned range as well as to appropriate discrete sets. Organic-food consumers and some related issues were investigated in the city of Palermo. Consumers were asked to express their global satisfaction regarding consumption of organic food, as well as some other personal information. A survey was conducted from the four main retail outlets specialized in organic-food by interviewing nearly 200 customers. The data were used to analyse the overall satisfaction of the local organic-food consumer. Furthermore, a “discrete choice” model was run by using the overall customer satisfaction (OCS) derived from the consumption of organic food as a dependent variable. Observation of Time-Reversal Violation in the B0 Meson System

Although CP violation in the B meson system has been well established by the B factories, there has been no direct observation of time reversal violation. The decays of entangled neutral B mesons into definite flavor states ($B^0$ or $\bar{B}^0$), and $J/\psi K_S^0$ or $c\bar{c} K_S^0$ final states (referred to as $B_+$ or $B_-$), allow comparisons between the probabilities of four pairs of T-conjugated transitions, for example, $\bar{B}^0 \rightarrow B_-$ and $B_- \rightarrow \bar{B}^0$, as a function of the time difference between the two B decays. Measurement of matter-antimatter differences in beauty baryon decays

Differences in the behaviour of matter and antimatter have been observed in $K$ and $B$ meson decays, but not yet in any baryon decay. Such differences are associated with the non-invariance of fundamental interactions under the combined charge-conjugation and parity transformations, known as $C\!P$ violation. Using data from the LHCb experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, a search is made for $C\!P$-violating asymmetries in the decay angle distributions of $\Lambda^0_b$ baryons decaying to $p\pi^-\pi^+\pi^-$ and $p\pi^-K^+K^-$ final states. Towards an understanding of discrete ambiguities in truncated partial wave analyses

It is well known that the observables in a single-channel scattering problem remain invariant once the amplitude is multiplied by an overall energy- and angle-dependent phase. This invariance is called the continuum ambiguity and acts on the infinite partial wave set. It has also long been known that, in the case of a truncated partial wave set, another invariance exists, originating from the replacement of the roots of partial wave amplitudes with their complex conjugate values. This discrete ambiguity is also known as the Omelaenko-Gersten-type ambiguity. Based on an all-optical system, a display of a fractional Fourier transform with many fractional orders is proposed. Because digital image-processing terminology is used, this display is known as the Radon–Wigner transform. It enables new aspects for signal analysis that are related to time- and spatial-frequency analyses. The given approach for producing this display starts with a one-dimensional input signal although the output signal contains two dimensions.
