Disturbing loads identification in power systems: a single-point time-domain method based on IEEE 1459-2000
2009
This paper presents a single-point method for the identification of prevailing disturbing loads in power systems for both single-phase and three-phase applications downstream or upstream from the metering section. It is based on the simultaneous measurement of three nonactive power quantities, which are based on the IEEE Std. 1459-2000 approach. The proposed method is only based on the separation of the fundamental components from the harmonic content of voltage and current; thus, it does not require any spectral analysis of the voltages and current. In this paper, the formulation of the proposed method and its time-domain implementation are described; moreover, some simulation results are …
Comparison of two different approaches for harmonic distortion sources assessment
2021
The paper focuses the attention on the comparison of two approaches for power quality assessment in the electric grid. Both approaches are suitable for investigating the harmonic pollution source and discovering if the harmonic source comes from the customer or the utility grid. The two approaches have the same purpose but they are deeply different. The first approach is based on the knowledge of the customer and utility equivalent impedance while the second is based on single point measurement at point of common coupling PCC. In this paper, the advantages and drawbacks of the two approaches are investigated also supported by a case study.
Experimental Comparative Analysis of Efficiency and THD for a Three-phase Five-level Cascaded H-Bridge Inverter Controlled by Several MC-PWM Schemes
2021
Cascaded H-Bridges Multilevel Inverters are an innovative and promising solution in different application fields. This topology allows obtaining an improvement in the performance (e.g. reduced harmonic content, the low voltage stress on power components, and high efficiency) in respect to the traditional two-level inverters. In this context, the Multicarrier-PWM strategies play an important role thanks to their features. This paper presents an experimental investigation on the performance of a three-phase five-level Cascaded H-Bridge inverter by using different PWM modulation strategies. In particular, the paper is focused on the experimental validation of the main features of Multicarrier …
Improved Switching Strategy for Selective Harmonic Elimination in DC-AC Signal Generation via Pulse-Width Modulation
2013
Published version of an article in the journal: Abstract and Applied Analysis. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2013/870904 Open Access We present an advanced design methodology for pulse-width-modulated (PWM) DC-AC signal generation. Using design methods based on the Walsh transform, AC sinusoidal signals can be approximated by suitable PWM signals. For different AC amplitudes, the switching instants of the PWM signals can be efficiently computed by using appropriate systems of explicit linear equations. However, the equation systems provided by conventional implementations of this approach are typically only valid for a restricted interval of AC amplitudes a…
Power Conversion System for Improved Linear Generator in sea wave energy harvesting applications
2020
Nowadays, many islands worldwide are lack of electrical energy. Thus, it is convenient to exploit available renewable energy sources, among which sea waves near the islands. This paper focuses on the power conversion system coupled with an offshore wave energy device, such as an improved linear generator, to be used for sea wave energy harvesting. Particularly, the design of the linear generator has been proposed to improve the energy efficiency of the entire system. The proposed power conversion system is composed by two Boost Rectifier (BR) directly coupled to the linear generator, and one Voltage Source Inverter (VSI), which it is used as front-end between the DC-bus and the grid. The pr…
Mixed Harmonic Elimination Control for a Single-Phase 9 Level Grid-Connected Inverter
2018
The power quality requirements are increasingly stringent, due to the continuous growth of devices connected to the grid that introduce harmonics. These devices include DC to AC energy conversion systems, i.e. grid connected inverters. The design, control and operation of these systems must take into account the rules of interconnection to the electricity grid. To improve the quality of the output waveform of the grid-connected inverter, Multilevel Converters (MC) with selective harmonic elimination modulation technique can be used. This paper presents a single-phase nine level grid-connected inverter with DC/DC input stages. The obtained switching angles for THD minimization are independen…
Local Environment of Yttrium in Y-Doped Barium Cerate Compounds
2006
The local structure of yttrium in Y-doped BaCeO3 compounds was studied using X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) at the Y K-edge. Data analysis shows that the local environment of Y3+ changes, resulting in a distorted octahedron. The structural distortion found does not depend on the dopant amount at the investigated compositions, but on the level of hydration, as clearly demonstrated by the distortion increase in the BaCe0.9Y0.1O3-ä sample after the treatment in O2/H2O. In situ measurements performed in O2/H2O flux, which show that the distortion is retained at 753 K, are also reported. The observed significative structural changes seem to point out a preferential insertion of the hydroxyl…
IEEE Std 1459–2010. IEEE Standard Definitions for the Measurement of Electric Power Quantities under Sinusoidal, Nonsinusoidal, Balanced or Unbalance…
2010
Definitions used for measurement of electric power quantities under sinusoidal, nonsinusoidal, balanced, or unbalanced conditions are provided in this standard. Mathematical expressions that were used in the past, as well as new expressions, are listed, as well as explanations of the features of the new definitions.

2021
The molar ratio variations of organic and inorganic reactants of chloridobismuthates(III) with N,N-dimethylethane-1,2-diammonium, [(CH3)2NH(CH2)2NH3]2+, and N,N,N′,N′-tetramethylguanidinium, [NH2C{N(CH3)2}2]+, cations lead to the formation of four different products, namely, tris(N,N-dimethylethane-1,2-diammonium) bis[hexachloridobismuthate(III)], [(CH3)2NH(CH2)2NH3]3[BiCl6]2 (1), catena-poly[N,N-dimethylethane-1,2-diammonium [[tetrachloridobismuthate(III)]-μ-chlorido]], {[(CH3)2NH(CH2)2NH3][BiCl5]} n (2), tris(N,N,N′,N′-tetramethylguanidinium) tri-μ-chlorido-bis[trichloridobismuthate(III)], [NH2C{N(CH3)2}2]3[Bi2Cl9] (3), and catena-poly[N,N,N′,N′-tetramethylguanidinium [[dichloridobismutha…
